Considering this is a college level text, it is very easy to understand - easy enough for high school students. The authors ease their way, not jump around, into every topic. This text includes one of the most interactive, if not the best, CD-Rom I've ever worked with. All topics are high-lighted per each section per chapter - and with plenty of videos, a deeper understanding of all materials covered is achieved. Along with the CD-Rom, an on-line access code is included. Homework, pre-tests and post-tests navigate and help you in your weakest areas. 5 stars (Good Resource) - This book well and truly paid for itself after the first couple of chapters. We found a number of areas where our setup was wrong and this book provided a very indepth look at the PIX product and enabled us to fix this easily and quickly. Learning to Weave- Revised Edition

4 stars (Not really for a beginer-beginer! ) - The most important thing I learned from this book is that I'm not ready for this book! I inherited my mother's table loom some time ago and have not had time to look into weaving until recently. To get myself started, I purchased a number of books on weaving so that I could build up to tackling her loom. I found both "Weaving Without a Loom" and "You Can Weave" very helpful for a beginner. They taught simple terminology, basic weaves, the use of a variety of materials not only for weaving but for looms, and the use of patterns. Chandler and Redding's book, "Learning to Weave," looks to be an excellent resource for weaving on my table loom, but just perusing it's pages, I realized that I still need to work a little with the simpler looms before getting on to the main task. In reading the book, I found the notion of samples a fine idea. I started making them with some of the simpler looms, and have even found a use for some of the samples I've made. The suggestion regarding practice color combinations was also helpful. In looking forward to the daunting task of warping or dressing my table loom, I suspect that the authors' suggestions with respect to managing the warp threads and the alternative suggestions with respect to approaching the physical task itself will make my first experience much less frustrating. But first we have to build up the courage! 5 stars (This book is a must have!) - I received an antique 4-harness loom for my birthday this year and along with that was given some videos by Deborah Chandler. The videos were excellent and got me on my way but I still needed a reference to give more specific info. So, I asked experienced weavers for their advice on a book or two to buy and to the person every one recommended this one as "the bible". Beginning Dreamweaver MX 2004

4 stars (covers graphics and hooking to databases) - If you really are new to Dreamweaver, there might be some understandable trepidation at the size of this book, that claims to be for beginners! But the bulk is due in no small part to the authors choosing to describe 3 case studies. The implementation of code for each case illustrates various ways to use Dreamweaver. One interesting point of the book, compared to others on Dreamweaver, is that it seems to give equal emphasis to both the visuals that you can make, and to hooking pages all the way back to a database. Most Dreamweaver books concentrate on the former. But here is exhaustive detail on using ASPs or JSPs on the web server. It also looks at integrating Dreamweaver with PHP and MySQL, a popular combination. Graphics designers may not be so enthralled by some of this back end stuff, but on large websites, it is essential. 5 stars (The Author's support on this book is amazing) - Despite the fact that some reader reviewers don't think you should have to read a book from beginning to end, this book is set up that way. In fact, the introduction, and back cover indicate that you will build 3 complete websites in the book, so its obvious that you can't just jump around and hope to keep everything straight. (I don't do web development that way, either.) What I do want to point out about this book, is Imar Spaanjaars - one of the 3 authors on the book, who is absolutely amazing. I subscribe to the book's support forum at p2p.wrox.com, and Imar never fails to answer a dreamweaver question, or provide a solution - even when it does not involve the book. To me, that alone was worth the price of the book. Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Win-Mac

4 stars (Still the best of the WYSIWYG field) - Dreamweaver consistently ranks high in the field of WYSIWYG web site editors. This release does not stray from this position. Considering GoLive and FrontPage are the current competition, it is not hard to see why (will be interesting to see what comes out with Microsoft Expressions Quartz). As with previous versions, Dreamweaver 8 has the standard Dreamweaver interface. When you install, you have the option of setting up like a developer or setting up like a designer. It is not as easy to change the scheme (or not as evident), but this is not a major deal as a single developer rarely changes the setup of his development environment. Dreamweaver 8 touts itself as the king of CSS and it has certainly made some wonderful inroads. By default, you can create styles in a page or in a stylesheet. Unfortunately, it falls a little short in allowing you to change your mind in this place, as well. It would be nice, for example, to drag tested styles from a test page up to the stylesheet. Instead, I have to manually cut and paste or recreate styles. Yes, this is minor, but can't someone make a tool that does this? I would also love to see a tool that recognizes I have already created a style with the same feature or allows me to use the standard font and paragraph changes and automatically create a style. But, I digress, there is no tool that does that ... yet. The CSS Styles tab gives you a great way of getting down to the properties of a particular CSS style. If you do not want to bring up the designer, which is how you normally create your style, you simply add properties to the style in the CSS Styles tab. Very nice feature. A little different than the properties view in MS products, but much more compact. Dreamweaver 8 is better at .NET development than FrontPage.
