Rise of Nations- Thrones - Patriots Expansion Pack

4 stars (Expansion value for kids) - Firstly, I have already reviewed Rise of Nations; it is excellent and the expansion pack makes it better. If you don't have either RON, or if $$ doesn't matter then go for Gold and get the best. However, my situation is that I bought the expansion pack as an 'extra' for my children (who love RoN) and for them this expansion pack was NOT good value. Other expansion packs we have bought (notably age of empires and age of empires II) have added to the game play in significant 'game changing' ways. The RoN expansion does have new nations and new unique units; as one reviewer says if you are a 'thinking man' these new subtleties are an interesting nut to crack. But if you are a 'thinking child' the differences are too subtle (or complex) to fully grasp. The senate is comprehensible; the distinctions between the different generals really isn't. The biggest disapointment was the campaigns. In age of kings each new campaign had introduced my children to a piece of history with which they became fascinated. RoN does have a good campaign system which I raved about before. However the expansion pack is really just the same thing with the countries relabeled. There are a couple of new tweaks but nothing in the campaigns themselves to render them as immersive as the AOK versions. All in all, the expansion pack makes a brilliant game better. But viewed as an expense almost equivalent to a new game, I cannot recommend this UNLESS you have a deep and thorough grasp of the underlying subtleties of the original version. 4 stars (Great game, the six campaigns need some work) - Ive played this game a lot over time and have found it to be a very fun game. Good battle graphics and realistic aspects to running your nation. However, the 6 newer campaigns have limited scenarios and are too simple. Asheron-s Call- Throne of Destiny

5 stars (Asheron's call is Great!) - I have played the game since 2001 and the Throne of Destiny expansion is terrific. The monthly patches, the double xp and increase major and rare drop weekends, the live events, have been very exciting. There are new staff members that have made the game better than ever. The new graphics are are going to get even better, with the best upgrade coming in a near future patch. The new race, land mass, quests and dungeons and lore have brought a lot more content to an all ready great game. I have seen the xpansion bring people back from games like WOW. 3 stars (Review by Yobe the Mage) - I expected more changes in the game's most recent upgrade, but was disapointed in the few changes they made. Consequently, World of Warcraft is kicking Asheron's Call's butt. Too bad because at one time Asheron's Call was the best multiplayer game on the internet. Now World of Warcraft is dominating by a huge amount. Thanks for the chance to comment. Jim French 1 stars (Turbine blows it) - I have played Asheron's Call since it was a beta and sad to say, I have moved on after this poor attempt to save the game on Turbines part. Other than the graphics update, they have done nothing more than fluff the game like any other normal monthly event, paying $29.** for this is insulting to say the least. Time to move on and I might suggest World of Warcraft, awsome fun and great content! ...

WarCraft III Expansion- The Frozen Throne

4 stars (a Nice edition after all) - the expansion was nice specially the story and new add-on's to the game(unites, building and magical abilities ,..etc). But I didn't enjoy the game that much because the game was running sluggish because of my computer....ahhhh....time for a new NVIDIA graphic card. I recommend this pack to warcraft hordes. 5 stars (A top notch creation, as expected from Blizzard) - Blizzard is known for their million seller series of Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft. If you never heard of Blizzard, then you must be out of PC gaming world. Their existence is that important. So, like expected, Blizzard brought us another wonderful add-on to an already incredible game; and it's name is Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne. This is a must-get for any RTS mania. It is so good that in fact, anyone that ever played any video game in his/her life needs to buy this. There is so much more than just plain old stragety to this game. Campaign mode is just jaw-dropping good. The cinematics are way over the top of anything, especially when you acknowledge the fact that this game was released in the summer of 2002. Already 3 years old but it doesn't seem like it because if you're a TFT player you know there are so many things to do with the game that you rarely get bored. Aside from the world first class Campaign mode, there is the unbelievable map editor that comes with the game CD in which you get to not only edit existing maps by changing terrains, but start fresh new with an empty map and fill it with stuff, or use triggers to make custom games that exceed the popularity of most other RTS games....which is a real shame. I mean, you would expect game makers to make games right after seeing so many people go kuckoo over Starcraft, but in 9 years there has never been a single RTS game that came nearly close to the greatness of Starcraft in my opinion.
