The Knit Stitch The Knitting Experience- Book 1

5 stars (The Knitting experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch) - I am an experience knitter and I love this book. The designs are not only simple but aesthetically beautiful. I am inspired to knit them all. Christine Montano. 5 stars (The Knit Stitch) - Loved this book. Good for beginners as well as seasoned knitters. 5 stars (This is the books that is teaching me to knit) - As a experienced crocheter, I've been disappointed with the lack of nice sweater patterns. So I decided to learn how to knit. After reading "Knitting for Dummies", I was just as confused as before. Then I picked up this book. The book is extremely easy to read and learn from. The step by step photos are very helpful when you are trying to decipher where the heck your hands, fingers, and yarn should be. By following along with the photos, I have been able to successfully complete two projects in this book, and I am beginning another one. The patterns are very nice. Of course, as with any pattern book, there are some that I have no interest in making, but there are at least 5 more that I can't wait to try. One reviewer has said that the patterns are monotanous with lots of knitting. Ms Melville states in the book that these projects were designed with lots of knitting on purpose, in order to have the new knitter practice, practice, practice. To me, there is an upside and a downside to this. The upside: by the time I finished the bulky yarn poncho, I had mastered the knit stitch and tension. The downside: I would like to make the Best Friend Jacket ( a cool assymetrical sweater ), but in order to get enough yarn for it, I'm going to be dropping a chunk of money for the yarn. This can be daunting for a newbie, who is unsure of their commitment to the craft (I, personally, am ordering my $100 worth of yarn today for the jacket, after 3 weeks of debating whether I would actually finish it or not) A side note on the patterns I have finished: The super bulky weight poncho turned out AW...

1 stars (ARE THEY KIDDING????) - This CD rom even comes with TUTORIALS! I still can't get past them to get to the real designs I want to make. The directions are written for people who need a degree in computer engineering. I have a decent knowledge of computers, Access, Excel, Word, etc. I thought it would be relatively easy once I got the "hang of it." I can't find a "back" or "erase" button like on Word, to delete or erase the most recent action, so I end up having to start over again. And again. And again. I was so excited to use this because I'm so sick of going to craft stores and seeing nothing but ugly cross-stitch kits for flower bouquets, kitchen decor or farm animals. This CD is a waste of time and money. Don't bother. 3 stars (Simplistic ) - First off, I think it is worth the money - that being said, it is hard to use - once a font is in place it cannot be re-sized or moved, it has to be deleted and re-done - the same goes for artwork .... I am just too used to designing with Corel and this is not even close - But, I enjoy it and have worked up some very cute designs. 4 stars (remember to save your work!) - I only do cross-stitch patterns so I can't speak to how effective this software program is for embroidery or bargello work although it does have regular, half and back stitches, French knots plus a bunch of custom stitches (smyrna cross, trellis, eyelet, chessboard, stars, etc). You start with a basic template where you select a "canvas" by size (in inches or in stitches), specify the number of thread strands and choose a cloth color. This creates a blank, grid-type canvas where you apply your choice of stitches. The program starts with a standard palette to which you subtract or add colors and one of the best features of the program is the fact that it lists hundreds of floss colors by name and number. Included are DMC (six strand floss, rayon and metallic), Anchor, JP Coates, Kreinik varieties, Maderia classic and a number of Mill Hill beads. I have...

3 stars (AN ERROR IN HER KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS) - ATTENTION KNITTERS: **VERY IMPORTANT!** I am currently knitting from BOOK 2: THE PURL STITCH EXPERIENCE. The pattern I am knitting is: To-The Cottage Pullovers (Pgs. 136 through 139). After spending LONG hours trying to get the 3-block pattern for 76 stitches, I realize after not being able to sleep through the night thinking about it, THERE IS AN ERROR IN HER INSTRUCTION. For those who will be knitting this pattern, on pages 137 * 148, 3-block pattern chart, CORRECTION IS: rows 13, 15, 17, 19 (RS) K8, *P8, K8, repeat from * to 8 sts remaining, P8 There are a few sweater patterns using this 3-block plattern, so BEWARE AND READ CAREFULLY before you get frustrated like I did. Knitting a guage was no problem. The problem arised when I was acutally knitting the swetaer. Having used the first volume in the series, The Knit Stitch, I was happy to find that this second book is just as valuable. One of its best features is the presentation of photos of the same garment done in different yarns and sizes. Patterns are accurate and adaptable, and I find that they stimulate my creativity and interest in customizing them. Though I've been knitting for more than twenty years, the simplicity is far from boring. The Purl Stitch is one of my most useful references, one that I return to time and again. 5 stars (A sense of Passion and Elegance) - I feel a harmony with Sally while reading her books. Stitch -N Bitch- The Knitter-s Handbook

4 stars (THE Knitting Book) - I've been knitting on and off for about 5 years, not including the various times my mom tried to teach me. I love to look at knitting patterns and wish I could knit more than just a scarf. This book has been a great help so far. I'm comfortable with the common "knit & purl" techniques but anything after that, I get a little intimidated. This book breaks it down and shows you, with illustrations, just how to make those tricky stitches. With other patterns I've seen they have a difficulty scale and that's my only complaint with this book. I'd like to knit a few of the sweaters in the book but I don't know if I'd be way over my head or not. Other than that, I think it's a great book for anyone who is interested in learning to knit or even current knitters looking for some new, funky patterns. It would make a great gift! 5 stars (Fantastic 'how to' guide!) - I rate myself as an intermediate knitter yet there were still things I learnt from reading the technical parts of this book! Her style is easy to read and follow. 3 stars (A Beginner's Perspective) - This book is great for teaching basic skills--the instructional section is detailed and fun to read. It actually has some of the best beginner instructions of any book I've tried (and I went through a lot of them because I had no one to show me even the basics). It's also great at capturing the hipness and fun of the knitting revival. My only reservation is the patterns. I feel they jump from the beginner's scarf to intermediate stuff with very little in between. There's not a lot for the true beginner to practice on to gain the confidence to tackle some of the more advanced projects. As far as the selection of patterns, about half are cool, edgy stuff that I would love to try, and the other half look way too homemade.
