Flip- A California Romance

Quote, "Four weeks of this change, with broken spaces of sunlight and intense blue aerial islands, and then a storm set in. All day the summit pines and redwoods rocked in the blast. At times the onset of the rain seemed to be held back by the fury of the gale, or was visibly seen in sharp waves on the hillside. Unknown and concealed watercourses suddenly overflowed the trails, pools became lakes and brooks rivers...

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

4 stars (Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands CD) - Very good book. It gives you a dose of reality and makes you take a look at your relationships. It helps to see the things that are taken for granted and to appreciate and understand your spouse. 5 stars (Wonderful!) - I love that Dr. Laura tell's it like it is. Every bit of her advice caused me to step back and take a look at myself and how I can better support and love my husband. 5 stars (to close to home) - Sometimes the truth hurts. Dr. Laura always tells it like it is, even when we don't realize it. My husband actually bought me this book for his birthday. After I loaned it to someone and never got it back, I decided to buy the cd. ...

The Sacred Romance- Drawing Closer to the Heart of God

5 stars (...Out of the dark night he leaps like a stranger to cripple and to bless...) - My guess is that readers who think they already have a good handle on life and Christian doctrine will probably be disappointed with this book. Likewise, this book will disappoint readers who want to see concepts like faith, hope, love, idolatry, grace, election, predestination, etc., expressed in religious language with which they are familiar, and not in language (and metaphors) in which people of our culture commonly express what is important to us and what drives us. Many thoughtful, ardent, traditionally-minded, well-meaning Catholics, Calvinists, etc., will not like this book. Readers, however, who are desperately asking questions like, "Why do I have to hurt so much? When can I finally get out of the situation I am in? Why am I so burned out even though I have done everything I know to be faithful to Christ? How can I be so lonely? Why does this addiction keep re-surfacing? What is God doing here?" will probably find this book a God-send. I re-read this book recently at precisely such a time in my life, and it was wonderful. It reminded me that God is not after my religious devotion and doctrinal comformity, he wants my *heart*, the deepest center of myself, and that he may well invade my life in a way that hurts me, that strikes me as ruthless and devastating, in order to get it. God is committed to my sharing and radiating his glory--nothing less. Amazing. In my view, one of the best aspects of this book is its emphasis not just on what God has promised to share with us (beauty, intimacy, adventure, glory), but *when* he will share it. Yes, we get a substantial foretaste now, but our deepest longings will be finally, fully satisfied only when we see him. Until Jesus comes back, God will mess with our lives and our idols in order to make sure that we don't get distracted by anything less than the awesome destiny he is preparing for us. As eloquently expressed toward th...

I Hate You- Don-t Leave Me - Understanding the Borderline Personality

4 stars (One of the best books out there on Borderline Personality Disorder) - I purchased this book for a friend. She wanted to give it to her Doctor. She was so impressed with this book she wanted everyone to read it. It is very well thought out and easy to understand for the lay person. A must read if have Borderline Personality Disorder or just know someone that does. 1 stars (please read this review) - If you are truelly a borderline personality who is seeking information before treatment or you are new to treatment do not read this book.It is a very outdated view which is insensitive to the needs of BPDers and their families at a time when hope and faith is needed.I read this post intensive treatment and as a now diagnosed BPD meaning treated and considered successfully treated this book negates it.One star for pointing out fellow famous BPDers. But read this when you can look back... Stick to Marsha Linehan and" Lost in the Mirror" 4 stars (Things Become Clearer) - This book defines a condition that has baffled us - BPD. Suspicions are confirmed, and perhaps courses of action are opened to us that we didn't have before. We recommend this book if someone close to you is frightening you with their behavior. It can enable you to take action, or at least better understand what's going on. ...

He-s Just Not That Into You- The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys

5 stars (A huge smack of reminder) - Let's face it, we are not dumb. In the very deep core of our intuition and innate propensity, we know when someone isn't 'into you'. But because we are all born good beings and our instincts tells us to; first, believe and trust, we do get hurt. And continue to get hurt knowing we are hurting. Being both sympathetic and selfish, we fall into this little yet very dangerous hole called 'DENIAL'. This book is funny, painfully honest and a great smack of reminder to tell us 'we don't need to live with unhappiness and wonder if we really deserve it but embrace happiness and KNOW we deserve it. Absolutely love it. 1 stars (A sexist view of men) - If you truly believe that "Men are not complicated, although they'd like you to think they are" and "there are no mixed messages", as the product description echoes, this book may be for you-- but why do you need it? If men are so stupid, simple, and inferior, do you really need to buy a book to understand them? Men aren't dim simpletons, and you're not going to improve your understanding of them by treating them so. If you want to find and understand a man you can respect, look for books that at least respect men. ...

Men Are from Mars- Women Are from Venus- A Practical Guide for Improving Communication and Getting W

5 stars (Classic Genius) - This is one of the books that every adult should read. I found several stories in the book which seemed like they were right out of my own life situations -- and you probably will too. It is very universal and will help you. 1 stars (Attention Sister Venuvians: We Must Punish This John Gray By Forever Denying Him Sex!!!) - The most sexist, biased, silly, unfounded, unhelpful waste of time to come from a publishing house in many a moon. This supposed relationship enhancer is the biggest example of playing with a loaded gun since the serpent in the Garden of Eden offered marriage advice to Eve. I know this is now a cult hit but I wonder how many relationships this exercise in stereotyping has busted up? Gray would have us accept that humans are without variation walking examples of either Martians or Venuvians. JMJ, but who on earth falls for this hogswallow? Apparently a lot of people by the sales numbers. Gray would like to make us think all men are confrontation-seeking warriors who reason at waist level. (Actually only half of that statement is true.) He makes a case that men dwell on this plane to spread their DNA, make quick, simple decisions and scratch themselves in public. Women, the less than sage Gray wants it know, are emotion-driven machines turned on and off by nesting instincts, the desire for endless communication and a snuggly need for flattery and security. We are supreme manipulators employing sex as the coin of the realm in the marketplace of romance. This book has all the depth of a three-panel Sunday comic strip. Unfortunately rather than going through the talk show circuit and dying a natural death in the 1990's, I saw a new edition of this was out since the one I read for a class. "Updated!" it proclaimed. What, Gray's going to admit we've evolved a little and are now in the stone age instead of the protoplasmic mating pool he seemed to think we all lived in when he first tossed this inflammatory little cartoon ...

The Five Love Languages- How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate

5 stars (General evaluation) - 1.Is this an in depth presentation? This book discusses the five love languages and the variants of each. The book serves primarily to introduce the reader to these languages and their "dialects". There are also many examples in the book of how the different love languages operate in the lives of married couples. I would say that the book is a very good and workable introduction to the topic, but not an in depth presentation. 2.To what extent does the author address current situations? The five love languages are applicable to all people in all situations. These love languages are as old as the human race itself and that makes the book very topical. This book develops the theme of the five love languages around the covenant of marriage. Couples where spouses are not fulfilling each other's emotional needs will find a new approach to their marriages in this book. This book can also be applied to other relationships and the reader will learn to express his love to other people in a constructive manner. The book will also sensitise the reader to his own love language making it easier to communicate his need for love to other people. 3.Was there any new information? The five love languages discussed were new information to me. The love languages are: *Words of affirmation - the love that is communicated by speaking words of edification to a person. *Quality time - the love that is communicated by setting aside specific time to spend with a person. *Receiving gifts - the love that is communicated by giving gifts to a person. The gift can also be the gift of self. *Acts of service - the love that is communicated by being a servant to someone. *Physical touch - the love that is communicated by physically touching someone. 4.What impact did the book have on me? I did a bit of soul searching while reading this book. My inability to receive love from my father suddenly became clear: He did not love me in my primary love lang...

The Five Love Languages for Singles Chapman- Gary

1 stars (Devolves into Christian dogma) - When I read the original "5 languages of love" 3 years ago, it changed the way I related to the important people in my life. I also learned how to ask others to show their love in a way I could understand. So, when I saw that Chapman had written a book for singles, I ordered it immediately. I couldn't be more disappointed. While the original book presented sound and common-sense psychological research and insights, the newer "singles" book has devolved into far-right Christian dogma. While the original book was 'descriptive', telling one how to show love in a way one's mate could understand, the new book is 'prescriptive', demanding that one have "wholesome" relationships according to ultra-conservative Christian sensibility. The section on "loving touch" repeats over and over that sexuality is to be expressed only within the bounds of marriage, a view that won't help the majority of possible readers. Even if you're single, skip this disappointing book and find the original in a used bookstore. 5 stars (It is great!) - This book is great! I learned so much not only about how I like to be loved but also about how others like to be loved. It has changed my perspective on interacting with my friends, family, and future husband. I have received great responses from the people around me that I care about. 4 stars (Great book) - Chapman has done an excellent job at coming down to the fundamentals of the ways people feel loved. The love languages he describes can be in any relationship, not just dating relationships, but the book focuses on these types of relationships. He gives EXCELLENT examples of people he has counseled regarding how to show interest and affection to the one they want to develop a deeper relationship with. The book help demystify and clarify some of the communication gaps that go on in relationships. It is an easy read, and a book that I highly recommend for people look to improve their relationships, platonic ...

Love - Respect- The Love She Most Desires- The Respect He Desperately Needs

5 stars (The great help we all desire and need...) - This is one of the best couple "help" books I have ever read. It is Christian belief-based. A man is commanded to love a woman and a woman is commanded to respect a man by no other than God himself. But even if you don't believe in the Bible this has some great stuff. It points out some undeniable Truths about the nature of men and women. The truths are simple and the principles are easy to follow. You don't have to believe you have been commanded by God to do these things. Just know that if you both do them your marriage will be much more loving...and MUCH easier to understand. 5 stars (Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs) - Finally, a book that truly hits the issue on the head. Communication in marriage often deteriorates into a vicious cycle. The author clearly defines how it happens, why it happens, and how to change it. After reading his book, I put the principles into practice and noticed an immediate improvement in our relationship. This is the book I would recommend on marriage to couples. 1 stars (TERRIBLE BOOK- AVOID AT ALL COSTS) - This book was terrible. What he talked about could have been done in two pages. The writing was bad, the examples were not only sexist (and I'm a man!) they were not helpful or clear. I expected that his wife would have some impact in the writing of this book. Perhaps she might write a chapter or add a paragraph but no. It was all him repeating the same chapter over and over and over and over again. His Needs Her Needs was much better. I recommend an even better book, A Lasting Promise, wholeheartedly. That book was the best and puts this one to shame. ...

Spell of the Highlander

5 stars (Dark magic draws you in (um, like a dark mirror that can trap you for a thousand years!)) - Karen Marie Moning weaves magic with hot highlander goodness. Ah, it's such a nice blend, too. Behind the every day goings on of the world is one where faries tinker and power can weave worlds. This power can be light or it can be dark. Cian, born gifted with power and charged as a guardian of the Sidhe, was tempted by the dark arts. Unfortunatly that kind of stuff attracts unsavory types. Hence Cian has been trapped for hundreds of years in a mirror of dark power. Grad student Jessica St. James, unfortunately, ends up opening up a package for her professor that contains this dark object. Sure, you get a hot guy, but the headache of having to deal with a dark mirror and a psycho dark mage ready to kill for it back. Of course the romance between Jessica St. James and Cian is fabulous. Karen Marie Moning has a talented pen and writes dialogue that is funny and wicked. I really enjoy her world of alpha highlanders and magic. 4 stars (Scottish Delight!) - Oh, if only this book had been longer, I didn't want it to end! But if it hadn't I would have been up even later than 3am. If your familliar with Moning's books you'll know this is a continuation in the Kelter Druid/ Faery series. And after reading the end of this book you find out that there are atleast 2 or 3 more books to come! The dialogue of this novel was so beautiful I may force my husband to read it and learn a thing or two! Cian Kelter is the oldest of our druid hotties yet. A genetic freak born in the 9th century & made laird at birth, he has all the possible magical abilities bred into the Kelter line. Naively he invited another druid into the castle one night, an evil twisted man, and to sum up events Cian ended up stuck in an enchanted mirror perched on his enemies study wall for the past 1,133 years. And he'd have probably stayed there...if the magic that enabled a previous Kelter hotty to serve hadn...

Erotic Weekend

5 stars (Review of Erotic Weekend by Cheyenne McCray) - Read, if you dare, a story about a swelteringly hot " Erotic Weekend " that will fulfill any and all of your submissive fantasies. From the very first page of this erotic D/S novella, I was drawn in by the masterfully penned white-hot eroticism of the BDSM lifestyle that most of us only fantasize about. Andi Kelly, a Vice President of an investment firm is not what anyone would consider submissive, but she's tired of being in control and fantasizes about sexually submitting to a man who isn't intimidated by her tenacity. When the she can't stand the heat of being in the same boardroom with the only man who makes her lustful body respond in a way she has no control over, she finally decides to get out of the boardroom and into a country club resort where all of her submissive fantasies will become reality when she dons her new Master's slave collar. Andi thinks she's prepared for the no strings, no attachments, no commitments, fantasy fulfilling erotic weekend with a man who will make her foray into the world of BDSM a soul-shattering sexual experience, but when Derrick convinces her to turn all control over to him, she soon realizes that nothing could have prepared her for the wickedly erotic training he has in store for her. Derrick is a lovingly rigid *huge grin*, fair, and, much to his surprise, possessive (at least when it comes to Andi) Master who has wanted Andi for a long time, and now that he finally has her exactly where he wants her, mostly in punishment situations it would seem *wicked grin*, he has no intention of ever letting her go. There is nothing I did not love about this book, other than the fact that it had to end, I just love Andi, she's just so sassy sometimes it makes me grin, and she she's so very brave and open to everything Derrick wants her to experience. And Derrick, oh man would I love to be on the punishment end of his flogger! *wink* Christine, eCataRomance Review...

Devil-s Bride

5 stars (In love with Devil's Bride) - I picked up this book at a garage sale but I immediatly fell in love with it. The characters were witty and fun. The plot was strong and I couldn't put the book down. Honoria and Devil were perfectly matched and it was always great to see them interact, with each other as well as the other characters in the book. The only bad thing I have to say about the book was the murderer was rather obvious to me from the beggining but the book was still great fun to read. I would recoomend it to anyone and everyone! 5 stars (The first and THE best of the Bar Cynster novels) - What a great way to start the Cynster series! I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. This is a great introduction to the Cynster family, especially those disgustingly handsome and sexy Bar Cynster cousins. As soon as I finished reading this, I bought the other 5 Cynster novels because I wanted to know what happened with the rest of the Bar Cynster. Devil and Honoria are my favorite Cynster couple. Devil is just to die for and Honoria is the perfect match for him. He is rakishly handsome and so arrogantly sexy. He is strong, devoted to his family and, of course, he is the Duke of St Ives, the leader of the notorious Bar Cynster and the most eligible bachelor in the ton. As for Honoria, she is the strongest and most interesting of the Bar Cynster wives - not to mention the most stylish and sophisticated. The part in the book where someone mentions that she was born and bred to lead the ton and take on the role of the family matriarch couldn't be more true. When reading the succeeding books, I couldn't help but measure up the other heroines against Honoria, and couldn't imagine any of them in the Duchess' role. I love the interaction between those two, and the way they slug it out during their heated exchanges is very entertaining. It is always delightful to read about them in the other Cynster books, in fact, I'm always looking forward to th...

Jewel Thief

2 stars (I feel slightly cheated!) - My major complaint with this "book" ist not the story but the lenght. I had expected more than some mere 45 pages, which were barely enough to develop either the characters or the plot. The story had sounded so promising to me and I am sure, I would have thoroughly enjoyed it, had the author turned it into a full-lenght novel. But as it is, it only left me with the wish for something more and a niggling feeling of having been cheated out of six bucks. 4 stars (Great book!) - What's a girl to do when she wants to be filthy rich but doesn't want to earn the wealth she dreams of? Well, in this blisteringly hot erotic BDSM, the gorgeous woman chooses to be a " Jewel Thief " who has never really considered the price she would pay if she were to be caught, until the night a botched job forces her to endure an enlightening, and life changing crash course in Sex Slave 101. Elena Beckett has picked up some useful skills as a jewel thief over the past year, and thanks to her partner-in-crime, James, she has quite a few successful heists under hear belt. Elena is well on her way to her first million in thefts with no intention of stopping, even if Jack, playboy extraordinaire, and the next "lucky" victim that will be divested of his family jewels *grin*, has her belly doing flips worthy of any circus acrobat. On the night of the heist, everything seems to be going smoothly, the owner is out, James is taking care of the alarms and all Elena has to do is get to the safe, get it open, grab the goods, and get out, sounds like a piece of cake, right? Yea well, that fragile wall of invincibility surrounding Elena comes crashing down around her when she, once again, comes face to face with Jack, only this time he isn't very happy about seeing her in his home in this situation. Jack London isn't up for playing the role of a victim tonight so he turns the tables on his gorgeous little thief by oh-so-generously offering her a choice between a l...

The Romantic-s Guide to Popping the Question- 101 Award Winning Marriage Proposal Stories and Ideas

5 stars (What a great idea Michael has!) - If you haven't read Michael's bio, you should. Happily married for 12 years, he knows what he is talking about! This is a fun book with some great ideas in it! My advice? Read it...take notes...and follow the recipe! Jaci Rae is the critically acclaimed author of "Winning Points with the Woman in Your Life One Touchdown at a Time" ISBN 0974622907 and "The Ultimate Guide To Music Success" ISBN 0974622923 as well as the host of the Jaci Rae .com show. Dubbed by the media as "Racy Jaci" because of her quick wit and "The Rae of Hope," for her powerful insight. 5 stars (How To Make Adults Cry) - Even before I had a fiance I was a sucker for those proposal shows - every time I saw a real life proposal that they showed on TV, it made me cry. When it was time for me to get engaged I wanted to have a proposal that was endearing, touching and dramatic like the ones I saw on TV. This book was the start of a fantastic proposal that not only was magnificient, it also was featured on the local news and in two of our newspapers. I had some ideas of my own before reading the book, but everything I read really helped me to flesh it out and perfect it. It was definitely worth the investment. A nice bonus were the dozens of photos of some of the actual proposals featured in the book. The ring cost me $3000 so I figured I could spend a little more to make it a proposal of a lifetime and I am glad I did. 1 stars (Don't waste your money) - Don't waste your money on this book, the stories aren't any different than what you can find posted on some web site somewhere. And as far as the tips that go along with the book, you would have to be a retard not to know you shouldn't say "I'll marry you if you lose 20 pounds." The big secret to getting someone till film your proposal..........have someone ready with a camera when and where your going to do the deed. What a great idea! Save your money and think up your own idea. ...

300 Creative Dates- The World-s Most Romantic- Unique and Fun Dating Ideas

5 stars (Great Birthday Present) - I bought this as a birthday present for my boyfriend and told him that he could pick out one date a month that I would have to treat him to and hopefully he would let me pick out one date a month that I would like to do. We have had it for about 3 months now and we get really excited about our dates now. Before we didnt really do anything but hang out and maybe rent a movie. Now the stuff we do is actually fun and we have gotten tighter as a couple because of it. Several of my friends have expressed how jealous they are of the dates we have been going on. It is not like they are expensive or anything - just unique. There were even some fun dates that we have done that we found in the classifieds of the newspaper just like the book said. 4 stars (Unique Ideas) - There were a lot of unique ideas in this book which was really good. I never imagined there could be so many different date ideas. We are doing one each week until we do all of them - after the 6 years are up I'll post another review :) 5 stars (Thanks) - I thought I was really romantic but my girlfriend told me I needed a little help <crash> :( Upon recommendation from a friend I got this book and while some of the ideas werent us (maybe 20%) there were a lot that I have been able to use. After reading it I have to admit <blush> that I guess I am not nearly as romantic as I thought. My hat's off to this Michael Webb guy. Glad this was out there for me to get. ...

Pleasure Cruise

5 stars ( Pleasure Cruise ) - This book was very good, I enjoyed the the by play between the two friends. It made them appear very real. This book is a keeper. 5 stars (Hot and fun, a great read!) - The supernatural races are in danger of dying out as they refuse to mates for all eternity from their own, so the 'powers that be' have arranged for a few paths to cross, with the aid of a singles cruise! Clare is a workaholic and her friend Kira has bought them cruise tickets to relax and have a little fun. However it's only when they get to their rooms and find that they are already occupied by two very sexy men (a werewolf for clare and a vampire for Kira) that their fun and the rest of their lives begin. Although this book is written by Pillow and Roth it is one continuous seamless story rather than two separate stories as previous collaborations have been, and it works very well. There is no pull towards one character rather than another and there is no voice louder than another. I look forward to future Pleasure titles "Pleasure Air" and "Pleasure Island" hinted at in the prologue and would wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone. Both writers are at their sizzling best Buy it now! 5 stars (Definitely a fun-filled cruise!) - If you don't have time to get out on vacation, then read Pleasure Cruise for an entertaining and stimulating break! A hot vampire and sizzling werewolf stake their claim on this paranormal cruise. Wonderfully funny and sensuously hot all at the same time! ...

Dreaming of You

5 stars (Best of Lisa Kleypas) - Advice: Read "Then Came You" first. Derek Craven is introduced in that book, and while you don't have to read it to enjoy " Dreaming of You ", the books do intertwine quite a bit. DOY is, by far, the best romance I have ever read and is Lisa Kleypas' best. Sara Fielding is adorable (I loved her from the first page) and Derek Craven is pure heat. Together, they are a most unforgettable couple - literally. This book will stay with you for days after you're done reading it, if not weeks. 5 stars (Passionate love story) - Ok, I admit that on second thought there are quite a few suspension of beliefs that must be made on the reader's part. For example, Derek's bent on not having Sara was frustrating after awhile. However, I believe I (and the other's who rave about this book)like this novel so much because I really felt the passion of Derek for Sara. He really is the one you fall in love with here. I have rarely felt the heartbreak of a character as I did Derek's. I rather feel inclined to compare it to Jane Eyre for some reason - it has it's plot stretches, but you don't really care (the writing style and plot is of course completely different from Jane Eyre). There is a lot more steamy sex scenes as well (very good ones I might add). This is definitely a darker romance though. The hero truly is scarred. Bottom line: I would definitely recommend " Dreaming of You ." 5 stars (Loved It!!!) - Dreaming Of You is my absolute favorite romance novel. I've read so many books by Lisa Kleypas, but this one is just simply the best. Derek is my favorite hero out of her books, he's just so hot! And Sara was perfect for Derek, they make such a good couple. This book deserves a 10!! -Anne Rose Duenas ...
