5 stars (A great book) - At the beggining I hate the S4/IEE term but at the end I loved the book because it has a lot os technical information about statistics as it promises. 5 stars (Comprehensive Six Sigma stats w/ exercises) - I got what I was looking for, a comprehensive statistics book applied in Six Sigma world. It covers everything a SS professional needs to use to be able to successfully solve the vast majority of the statistical problems throughout Six Sigma projects. Excellent book overall! 4 stars (Six Sigma - Breyfogle) - A thorough reference book for Six Sigma and the implementation process. As a beginner, I have found it very dense. It seems to explain everything involved in Six Sigma in great detail, but it does not offer examples, so ought to be supplemented with other reference materials. ...

Statistics for Business and Economics 9th Edition

4 stars (good book with good cases) - Very good text book with very useful and practical real cases, which make the boring theory interesting. I think it is very useful for my job and daily life. 4 stars (Effective text for students and anyone wanting to brush up) - This is a very readable and useable text for undergraduates, business students, and general readers who want to learn or brush-up on basic statistics. There is a tremendous amount of information in its 1200 pages, but it is well laid out, amply illustrated, with lots of practical work. The answers to the odd numbered questions are provided in the back to aid self-study. There are several appendices that provide important tables and the methods for calculating important statistical formulas. The index is also quite helpful. I think the book has a good balance of the technical with the practical. It is easy on the eyes and though statistics necessitates the use of a significant amount of math, it is well explained and never overwhelms the reader. ...

5 stars (A Book for Every Teacher) - Whether you teach math, English, science, or any discipline in a school, this book will make you a BETTER teacher. In addition, when you apply Tovani's suggestions, your students will IMPROVE. This book is worth taking personal time outside the classroom to read. It will make your time in the classroom more purposeful. 4 stars (Practical, easy to apply strategies.) - This book gave me a lot of ideas for getting students to probe into a text to get beyond basic comprehension of a text to creating personal meaning from text. Her techniques are for every student, the talented and the struggling. The only frustrating thing I found about the book is she assumes all teachers work in ideal environments. She tells teachers to get parents to donate post its for the note taking strategy she uses. Parents at my inner city school would not do this. 5 stars (This book was SO helpful!) - I was assigned this book for a class this semester in my grad program. As a science teacher, I went into the class thinking, "Why do I have to take this class??" After the first day, I went to buy my textbook. That night we were assigned the first chapter. I sat down, to read just that chapter, but ended up reading the entire book. Tovani's style of writing is so easy to read and follow. There are items discussed in the book that you can incorporate into your first day of class, and things to use all year. I feel that with these ideas in place, my students are going to do much better in my class. My eyes are open now to the need for teaching reading in every subject. I would reccommend this book to first year teachers and well seasoned teachers alike. Thank you Ms. Tovani for writing such a great book! ...

Fundamentals of Building Construction - Materials and Methods

4 stars (Good book) - It's relatively well written and good for starter who are new to building construction. 5 stars (Surpassed expectations) - Being a student in Construction Management Edward Allen's book was assigned as our text book. The course entitled materials and methods is intended to teach future construction manajors about the wide variety of materials on the market today as well as tradional methods of constructing with these materials. The book is chalked full of knowledge most of which would take a person hours, even days of research to uncover with other sources. It is very comprehensive. If you are active in the comercial building construction this book is a must for your refrence shelf. Residential construction owners/workers would gain considerable knowledge from the book it has plenty of useful information however I feel the book is leaning more towards heavy commercial. 4 stars (Good reading--too expensive) - The author's readable style helps a lot. Also, interesting background material and history begin each chapter, and some industrial processes--glass-making, for example--are explained more fully. You won't regret reading this book, but you may be inclined to sell it when you're through. ...

Applied Behavior Analysis for Teachers 7th Edition

2 stars (Late Shipping) - I used this company since it said that it will ship in 2 days. 14 business days later it finally arrived. When ordering school books with a due date, I will not use this company because it agrees to ship within 2 days. 3 stars (Regarding 7th Edition Only) - The 7th Edition is precisely what I find wrong with textbook publishing today. If you're a graduate student (or any student for that matter), you have probably noticed that new editions for textbooks are being released increasingly more frequently, rendering texts far less valuable for resale than they would ordinarily be. I went to the book store and found ABA for Teachers with both the 6th and 7th editions on the shelf. I was cynical about how much the book would have changed in roughly a year's time from one edition to the next, and sure enough, they are practically identical. It is almost humorous to note that the forewards of the two editions were not even modified. The paragraph on 'Updates' to the editions is the same, noting substantial changes to one chapter and the decision to retain a particular example about a mouse. I referred to the chapter in question, and it was the same in both books. By all appearances, the changes to the 7th edition (to my eyes) are all cosmetic and do not involve content. The 7th edition is almost one hundred pages shorter than the the previous edition, due it appears to the format being changed to more of a workbook-type, taller text. Also, the headings and sidenotes now have colored fonts in many instances. If having a taller, thinner text and colored fonts is worth the extra money to you, go ahead and shell out the extra money. Otherwise, don't let the book publishers get the last laugh and stick with the 6th edition which is in substance the same book. 5 stars (Great reference to understand the principles of ABA) - This book was the textbook which was prescribed for a graduate course that I took in Behavior Modification. 5 stars (Great activities) - This book has great activities with great debriefs. The book is written in a simple to use style with clear directives on how to conduct each activity. The activities are easily modified to fit different age groups and teaching points. As a trainer/educator I enjoyed using the activities and am glad to have this book in my bag of tricks. 3 stars (Beware the duplication from her other book!) - I got this book becuase I liked JOnes' other book Team-building activities for Every Group. I was so disapointe to find a dozen or more of the activities exact duplicates of ones from the other book. Word-for-word. Other activiites in this book are good, just didnt like the covert deception that i was getting 104 activities when i already had purchased some of the once! 4 stars (teaching children) - My son's teacher works with this book in her classroom and I find it has been helpful in helping him learn to manage his anger. All children today should be introduced to all of the skills mentioned in Alanna Jones book. Self-esteem, communication, coping skills are vital to raising a peaceful generation of children. My son's teacher has also introduced lessons on stress-management and self-esteem with "The Children's Awareness Curriculum." I encourage schools and teachers to continue on this path of helping our children. ...

4 stars (Six Sigma Critique) - This book is an excellent resource, however it is not an easy read. If you are unfamiliar with the Six Sigma language it takes awhile to sift through the information. There is a lot o information provided that will serve as a longterm resource. 2 stars (This is not a Six Sigma Handbook) - I bought this book because it's a Six Sigma Handbook, but unfortunately it is not, is a book of SPC, it has a lot about control charts, run charts, etc. about hypothesis testing just a little!, anyway. I have to select better my books. 5 stars (The Best Six Sigma Book from alpha to z-tests ) - This book is a must have for anyone applying six sigma to real world problems. Not only do I use it on a nearly daily basis, I'm finding that my engineers are embracing the terminology and concepts so clearly conveyed in this text. We're spending 20-minutes at each staff meeting to review topics from basic statistics to advanced application of teaming concepts to get results. Instead of the usual soft stuff application examples that seem to illustrate that the author thinks everyone's making clothes pins, Pyzdek's book shows that he's really lived this stuff. The Art of Teaching Writing

3 stars (Review of The Art of Teaching Writing ) - Calkins book was an easy, yet informative read. As a education student, I learned a lot about how to motivate children to want to write. Calkins techniques are practical and simple. It seems that the book could be geared to not just elementary grades, but also to middle school ages. The examples of student writings were great. I will definitely be re-reading this book when I begin teaching in a couple of years. 4 stars (The Art of Teaching and Writing) - In the book The Art of Teaching and Writing, Lucy McCormick Calkins discusses various types of ways on how to instruct children to write efficient papers. The techniques that she illustrates in her book mostly came from her original ideas. These effective ideas could be used while instructing children or when teacher workshops are set up. Calkins writing style was very easy to read. She sets various examples to help illustrate her teaching techniques. One issue that I had with this book was the fact that the topics were too broad. Another problem that I have is that this book is not appropriate for elementary teachers. It could possible be used for middle school students but it is more suitable for teachers who are instructing High School Students. Overall, I feel that this book was organized very well and was easy to read. 3 stars (Good Book for Elementary School Teachers) - The Art of Teaching and Writing by Lucy Calkins is a book that I would recommend for new Elementary School Teachers. This book makes an attempt at illustrating how teachers can create creative writing lesson plans for young students. I must admit the size of this book was a little intimidating. It isn't really the type of book that you would read straight through, but perhaps skim through picking out material that pertains to what you want to convey to your students.
