Psychology and Life 17th Edition

5 stars (Very compelling) - The authors' use of case studies and real-life examples makes this more than a textbook -- and much more readable than one. I found myself excited about reading each chapter. And I know I'll be looking up things in it in the future. My only quibble is that I found many copyediting errors that I hope the publisher will fix for future editions. 5 stars (go professor Gerrig!!!!) - I had the pleasure of taking intro psych with professor Gerrig (one of the authors),and surprise, this was the book we used. I found it to be a great resource;it is so jam packed with useful information about things that we encounter in life that i'd recommend buying this book even if you're not a psych student. 5 stars (Psychology and Life - One of the best "intro" books) - I have about 30 introductory psychology books on my shelf, and none is more dog-eared and appreciated than this latest edition by Zimbardo and Gerrig. The breadth of coverage is astonishing, and they do so without sacrificing depth - several of the chapters (such as the outstanding ones on sensation and perception) are rigorous enough even for a graduate course in cognition. The style is eminently readable and still manages to cover all the important points. This is one of the best selling textbooks in the field of psychology with a long history of satisfied students and instructors, and this is no accident. ...

Socks Socks Socks - 70 Winning Patterns From -I-Knitter-s Magazine--I- Sock Contest

2 stars (not visually pleasing) - Although some of the patterns were quite lovely--and creative! one pair is knitted using licorice--the book is not lovely. The photographs of people either wearing or holding up socks are distracting, to say the least, and add little. Also, no yarn information is given for the sample versions shown. 5 stars (my favourite knitting book) - I own scores of knitting books, but I always come back to this one. Socks are perfect little projects for breaks between big projects, and great for trying new techniques. There are lots of different techniques in this book: Dutch heels, Turkish (short-row) heels, after-thought heels, cuff-down construction, toe-up construction, two-needle method, two-circular method, machine knitting, sideways-knitted, etc. The list of knitting skills you can try is comprehensive: lace knitting, cables, intarsia, fair isle, mosaic, modular (entrelac, mitred squares), embossed (bobbles, etc.), ribble (reversible cable)... the list goes on. Highly recommended. 3 stars (Some of the patterns have mistakes) - Overall I would have to say that this is a good book and worth buying. I have found mistakes in the Interlac socks, and with the maple twist socks, The maple twist socks, I have tried three times and still have yet to make it look like a proper sock. Everthing is fine until the last 3 sections. The Interlac socks are missing a set of squares after the heel. I have also tried the leafy lacy ones, and the fire like ones and found no mistakes in there. I also have a tendancy of trying to find the hardest pattern and doing it so it could be a me thing. If there were no mistakes in the book I would give it five of five, but the mistakes are nerve wraking for me Jodi ...

Bicycling Magazine-s Complete Guide to Bicycle Maintenance and Repair - For Road and Mountain Bikes

5 stars (Can't be beat for price and quality) - After looking at several other bicycle repair manuals, it was a joy to come across this book that is just right on the money. Todd Downs's book about bicycling repair is something that belongs on the bookshelf (or in the garage) of every bicyclist out there. The book easily pays for itself many times over by giving the novice bicycle mechanic the guidance and instruction in doing his own repairs. The book is also interesting to read. Downs explains the pros and cons of the various types of components out there, and gives the reader advice for how to best use and care for his bicycle. The photgraphs are clear and plentiful, never leaving you wondering what you're supposed to do, and give you the confidence to tackle just about any job. Where other books seem to err by giving the reader too little information - or overwhelming the reader with too much - this book strikes a great balance. Every part of the bicycle is covered in its entirety, and this book should work for just about every cyclist out there, whether you're a road warrior, hard-core mountain biker, or just enjoy a casual ride to the coffee shop on Sunday mornings. In addition to just straight repair and maintenance, the book is filled with good advice. I particularly liked when Downs would tell the reader if a troublesome part was better off being repaired or replaced entirely. If you ride a bike, you really should own a repair manual, and this is the best one I've seen so far. 5 stars (Dirt is it's destiny.) - My copy of Todd Downs' book is destined to get dirty-- dirty with the grit and grime of a bicycle in need of maintenance and repair. Modern bikes are more complex and more expensive than ever. Nowadays it's hard to just "wing it" if you want to do your own repairs. This book has really helped me to catch up on modern bike technology and gain a better understanding of my two-month-old Gary Fisher. The book is quite comprehen...

Bicycling Magazine-s Complete Book of Road Cycling Skills - Your Guide to Riding Faster- Stronger- L

3 stars (Literary equivalent to the energy bar) - This book is broken down into short chapters which can each be read in about three to five minutes. Like Bicycling magazine itself, it manages to be accurate and somewhat helpful, albeit completely insubstantial. I found that reading this book inspired me to ride, which is always a good thing. The subject of road cycling, however, is treated in such a superficial and scattershot manner that the book will probably be of little long term benefit. Like a cliff bar, it's sugary, fast acting, short term fuel for the road. 3 stars (A good book for the the strait racing bike. ) - This book was written primarily for the strait road/race bicycle, (the one with the curved handlebars). If this is your bike I recommend it, even more so if you intend to race. However, except for a brief topic of converting a mountain bike for the road, there is no mention of hybrids in the book. Maybe the book was made before they were available, hence the info on converting a mountain bike for the road. If you have a road bike with upright handlebars, (hybrid, comfort, touring), you won't find any mention of your bike in the book. And the pictures and info in the chapter on bicycle parts is all geared toward the road/racing bike. However the book is still worthwhile reading, particularly the chapters on safety, and road skills, dealing with exhaustion, heat, and cold among other helpful topics. I wouldn't recommend it for the advanced cyclist, or those that don't have a dedicated road/race bike, as a first book. But there is still some good stuff here. The black and white drawings of streetwise safety ideas I found particularly helpful. fiannor 1 stars (rather embarrassing...) - I guess for $11-12 you can take your chances with the book, but I don't believe you will learn much from it unless you are absolutely new to bicycling. But even then do not expect too much. As another reviewer said, many suggestions are rather simp...

5 stars (A satisfying and most enjoyable tour of scenic greenery) - Compiled by an editor of Golfweek magazine, A Walk In The Park is a showcase of 100 top-notch golf courses, divided into those created before 1960 and those designed after. Sweeping full-color photography offers a dazzling view of rolling hills, while the text describes the nuances of each course in detail, including figures for par, yards, and slope, Golfweek's waitings, and a background of the history and special features of each. Golf Annika-s Way

5 stars (Golf Anniks's Way) - I am a male that has worked hard mentally, physically and with a golf pro to reduce my high handicap by 10 strokes. The text and photography do a great job of instruction. The transition from the top and backswing as well as iniating the downswing translate into swing improvment. I also liked finding the balls of your feet for balance. I work hard at physical fitness and her chapter Getting Fit was very helpful. Strong to the core on the fitness ball and the med ball twist was great. I am aware of my abs on practice swings for the first time. I recomend this book for a golfer at any level, and believe readers will be suprised at it's quality. 5 stars (Excellent) - Great book - very easy to understand and apply principals right away. I'll be saving this one as a reference to keep my game on track. 4 stars (Interesting and Informative.) - I liked some of the information on golf technique. It has worked for Annika for hitting shots straighter and further. However, Annika does admit that she could not hit the ball no where nearly as far as she does now compared when she first joined the tour. This is partially do to her weightlifting program. I found the following to be a great golf instruction book that cut my handicap in half. This book is " The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide: Key Techniques for Becoming a Zero Handicap Golfer or Better" (isbn---1933023090). This last book showed me the essetials of the zero handicap or better golf swing. This book shows you how to become a zero handicap golfer. Also, it has proven tips that work for the short game which helped me to get up and down much more often. As for Annika's book it is a good book to learn the basics on golf. ...
