5 stars (Read and win.) - Just a joy to read, this book is truly a classic. With its timeless stories, the author illustrates the principles of getting along with others. A book that should be required reading for all human beings, I highly recommend it to one and all. Other self-help books I liked include "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan, A Pocket Guide To What Works." 5 stars (An amazing book) - Dale Carnegie wrote a fantastic book. He writes about success principles that he and others have used to become leaders and build cooperative relationships. I can tell a differece in how people respond to me since trying to use these principles. People smile back and are much friendlier. One reason I think this book is so successful is because the concepts are very simple. For the most part, all of his principles can be found under, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If one tries to understand how their actions are going to make others feel before they act, they have gone a long way to winning friends and influencing people. Another thing that I like about Carnegie's book is that it is all based on sincerity. All of the advice he gives provide win/win situations. Nobody loses; he does not try to manipulate or deceive people. I believe Carnegie had an honest interest in people and wanted everyone to acheive to their highest ability. The principles in this book helps one help others as well as help oneself. Truly a fantastic book. 5 stars (How to Win Friends & Influence People ) - Great for a long drive, reminds all of us how we should act. Honeymoon with My Brother - A Memoir

1 stars (Don't bother) - Trite and flat writing. Predictable. I tried reading this mess and ended up using it as a coaster. There are sooooo many good books out there - why read a bad one? 5 stars (Great read) - I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved the author's sense of humor. I especially appreciated the interaction and understanding, and ultimate bond, between the author and his brother. Franz certainly lived the old bromide "When life deals you lemmons, you make lemonade" After reading this book I think the author is perhaps less conservative than he thinks. I have given it as a gift to many of my friends. 5 stars (Absolutely wonderful!) - What a wonderful story about life! Reading this book made me realize how many people are stuck in their lives and blame others.The brothers took it in their own hands to make something positive out of something negative. I like travelling myself so I was inhaling all the places they went and adventures they had. I cannot wait for the second book! ...

The Endurance - Shackleton-s Legendary Antarctic Expedition

5 stars (Great book with outstanding pictures) - In reading this book I am amazed at the needless hardships these men have endured and even thou they failed how much you can learn about leadership in this book. The lack of common since surely hurt them to no end. I felt Shackleton even thou always optimistic among the men did not learn from his past failures or obtain very much common since but put his own desire to succeed before the safety or well being of the men. Overall it is a very interesting story and I enjoyed the pictures immensely it really brings the story to life. 5 stars (Enduring 'Endurance'.) - An excellent book, lavishly illustrated, which considerably enhances this absorbing tale of hardship and courage in bitter weather conditions, which would otherwise bt difficult to visualise. 1 stars (Read Alfred Lansing's Book) - Several days after purchasing Caroline Alexander's, "The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition" from Amazon.com, I read a few customer reviews that recommended Alfred Lansing's 1959 classic: "Endurance: Shakelton's Incredible Journey." These reviews extolled Lansing's book, and pointed-out how Alexander's was essentially a rewrite of this earlier work. Consequently, I also purchased his book, and thoroughly enjoyed reading the two of them while on vacation a few weeks ago. (I had already begun Alexander's book -- so, completed it before beginning Lansing's.) Alexander's book has one (and only one) distinct and obvious advantage over Lansing's -- the inclusion of scores of the original expedition photographs taken by Frank Hurley (the ship's photographer). These photos are incredible and make Alexander's book indispensable to anyone interested in Shakelton's Endurance expedition. That said -- here's why I gave her book only ONE STAR. How this is done is the subject of several imagineering books. For the newcomer, the book simply entitled Imagineering is it. For the next stage of imagineer-wannabe, there is the Field Guide. Take a guided tour of the Magic Kingdom land by land, attraction by attraction and learn what goes into making it all work cohesively and seemlessly. This is an absolutely essential component to anyone's library of Disneyana or, more in general, anyone's library of the creative process. 5 stars (Excellent Read, Great Information) - I love this book. It was the very first guide that I read. However, it has to be taken in perspective. This book is even better en tandem with The Unofficial Guide. Then you have all the information you could possibly need. The Unofficial Guide provides much needed balance, to the official line. This book will get you excited and high as a kite about your trip- which is great. It will tell you about all the wonderful things there are to do and great opportunities that are largely missed. The Unofficial will then proceed to give you a reality check about them and help you set realistic goals and have realistic expectations. This helps so that you're not disappointed. I used these two guides plus the Passporter (for organization) and we had the best trip in the world. We went in August, stayed on property, got around without having to rent a car or wait in long lines in the heat. We saw people looking like they were gonna pass out from heat exhaustion, but we sailed through our trip like a breeze and can't wait to go again. I read Fodor's, Frommer's (excluding the Irrevernt Guide), the Everything Guide, Rita Aero's,Eyewitness (waste of paper), Hassle Free Disney and tons more thru the years- NONE of the others are needed. The best plans are in the Unofficial guide, the best maps are in the official, the best planner is in the Passporter. The others were not used and not needed and a big waste of money. 5 stars (EXCELLENT INFORMATION) - Book is #1 to me. So informative, a must have for first timers or people who have been time and time again. 4 stars (Very good book, but wait for the 2006 edition.) - This book has lots of useful information. The book is somewhat dated already. I realize that Disney changes frequently. If you are planning a trip for the end of 2005 or 2006 I would wait for the 2006 book to be released. ...

Deep Survival- Who Lives- Who Dies- and Why

3 stars (Deep Survival, by Lawrence Gonzalis) - Entertaining, but disappointing book. Survival based more on pure luck than "know how". 4 stars (Useful, Often Fascinating, Sometimes Meandering) - Deep Survival can often be quite an interesting journey, although occasionally, like many of the hikers in the true life stories within, it gets a little lost and goes in circles. Laurence Gonzales has made a nice selection of survival tales and presents them in a very useful and illustrative manner. The author shoehorns himself in a little too much (particularly as humility is supposed to be one of the main virtues possessed by a survivor.) These true tales make a nice balance and counterpoint to much of the fascinating scientific research. The book does ignore anything that does not help its thesis so luck is downplayed as is the fact that non-survivors, who tales cannot be told, may often experience and exhibit the same charateristics as survivors, such as a sense of humour, but time was never on their side. Still, it makes for great reading and, despite the author's final insistence that survivors are born, may offer many useful tips for mental attitude adjustments during a hike or a climb gone wrong. 2 stars (Very slow in getting to the point) - I recommend against this book. It is extremely slow. If I need to fall asleep, I start reading this book again. The book has potential, but never lives up to it. I feel like writing about how the author could've or should've, but why waste my time and yours. Oh, and how old is this guy to keep writing about how great his daddy is. . . . ...

5 stars (GREAT READ!) - If you like the DVD version you will like this book. It follows very close. Great pictures and maps! A must read. 5 stars (Completely Awestruck) - It never ceases to amaze me how much strength we human beings possess in a time a crisis be it major or minor. Joe Simpson and Simon Yates are two of the finest examples. To live to tell the tale of that horrific experience is quite a coup. This book is truthful, accurate as well as compelling and heart shattering. Even though my survival of having been kidnapped in Moscow in 1992 just after the fall of Communism is not the same breed of survival, I can only say that I feel for these two brave men. -Yvonne Bornstein, Author, Eleven Days Of Hell 4 stars (An amazing tale of courage and endurance!) - Touching the Void will take you on an incredible journey with the author as he struggles to overcome a disasterous accident in the Peruvian Andes.
