Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen have managed to make learning these topics both entertaining and enjoyable by including illustrations of pathogenic creatures whose role it is to portray illnesses that harm the body. There are also illustrations of benevolent elf creatures whose role it is to guide readers through different parts of the body in terms of names and functionalities. The authors have also incorporated a sense of humor, trivia, and a diet plan. Healthy Sleep Habits- Happy Child

5 stars (This Book Changed Our Lives) - When my daughter was 7 months old she was waking up every 90 minutes and not napping well. I was exhausted and becoming anxious. I felt powerless to help her. I knew something had to change. A dear friend gave me this book and by coincidence a family meember also sent me the same book. This book is so good because it is filled with useful information that actually helped my family. I tried several of his recomendations with great results. Every now and then my daughters sleep will go through changes and I still consult this book for help. I have given it to many people. My own Pediatrician did not know as much about sleep as Weisslbuth does. Every new parent should own this book. I cannot say more good things about it. 5 stars (This saved my sanity (and probably my marriage)) - I can't say enough good things about this book. I read it when my son was 5 months old. Prior to that, he 'napped' during the day for about 30 minutes at a time and screamed the rest of the day and night. Turns out, he was seriously over tired and all of my attempts to get him to sleep were actually adding to the problem. The day I put the advice in this book into action, my life changed. I am actually able to enjoy my son. Buy it. Buy two just in case you lose the first one. 3 stars (Helped with naps...) - "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" is a good reference guide for getting your child to sleep better during the day. My son went from maybe taking one nap to taking 3 decent naps. I now know his "tired" signals and immediately put him to bed. It is very rare when he fights naps now. However, this book has not helped us with his night-wakings. The book tells parents to put the child to sleep between 6 pm and 6:30, my child won't sleep at 6 pm. He has gotten himself on a schedule where between 6:30 and 7 pm he wants to be in his pj's and eating and then put to bed. The book also suggests not getting the child when he cries...in other wo...

Body for Life for Women- A Woman-s Plan for Physical and Mental Transformation

4 stars (A real tool for attaining health and fitness for life) - Body for Life for Women should be considered an essential guide for women's preventive heath. Because it is focused specifically on the unique health and fitness needs and problems encountered by women, it is much more valuable for women than general health or diet texts. While it promotes a plan of "12 weeks to a fabulous body"; to see it as a mere diet or fitness book sells short its real value. A diet book may help us (temporarily) lose a few pounds; this book aims to show us how to create a healthy body in which we can live independently throughout our lives. As a spokesperson on health, Dr. Peeke is the real thing. She is an expert on the most current understanding of nutrition, preventive health and women's issues. The book is well written, inspiring and accessible. It gives women, especially those of us over 40, real hope and guidance as we wonder why "what we have always done" to stay fit is not working any more. I found especially interesting the section on life milestones, which describes a woman's health priorities at each stage of life. The mind principles, which urge us to examine the attitudes that shape our behavior, are a wake-up call. Dr. Peeke is a big fan of the Nike slogan "Just Do It". In this book, she tells us exactly what it is that we must just do and provides the tools and motivation to keep doing it. 5 stars (You won't believe it!) - I have completed my 12 week program and am astounded by the results. I'm 53 and a dancer but I never thought my body would return to this level of fitness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 5 stars (Excellent condition) - We ordered two South Beach diet books and they were both in excellent shape. The order came within a few days. We have always been very satisfied with books we've ordered from Amazon.com, whether new or used. PS--my husband lost 13 pounds on South Beach in the first two weeks! 4 stars (To lose weight, just head South.) - This is a diet book whose plan is to get you to lose weight by limiting your carbohydrates- essentially another low-carbohydrate diet. It has 3 phases where your carbohydrates are severely restricted at first, and then re-introduced. These kinds of diets will definitely help you lose weight in the short run, but in the long run, they fare just as well as any regular calorie restricted diet. An easy read, I give it 4 stars. Readers interested in other weight loss books might also want to check out "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan" to see what the published research has to say about losing weight. 1 stars (Disappointing from a nutritional perspective) - Let me start by saying I'm a big Bill Phillips fan. Did he actually write this book, or was his name just slapped on the cover? The recipes are a far cry from what any health conscious person would call "healthy" or even "good food". They are full of pre-packaged ingredients, which contain a ton of hidden fats, sodium, and preservatives. (I'm sure this is why no one bothered to add the nutritional values) Where are the fresh fruits and vegetables? Whatever happened to using common sense in determining a healthful, well-balanced diet? What on earth is a butter bud, and why would I want it in my Body For Life?? I guess this might be a step up for anyone that lives on takeout and has never learned the proper way to prepare a meal, but unless you really enjoy the taste of preservatives, this is probably not the book for you. If you're really committed to healthful living and eating, invest in a good whole foods cookbook instead, and leave this one on the shelf. 5 stars (Excellent advice and recipes) - This book is fantastic. I've been a fan of Bill Philips since reading Body for Life, and Eating for Life takes it one step further. Every recipe I have tried so far has been a success - tasty and easy to make. The dinners are all complete meals, so you don't have to worry about choosing side dishes, etc. The total time to make the meals are listed with each recipe, and so far have been accurate. Many "healthy" cookbooks I have bought in the past seemed like they were not written for real people. The recipes tend to be complex, timely to make, with hard to find ingredients. This book, on the other hand, has recipes that are simple to make, with ingredients you can find at any grocery store. Also, because he uses a lot of the same seasonings in different recipes, it doesn't cost a fortune trying to buy all new spices. Access to Health 9th Edition

5 stars (Thumbs Up for Access to Health) - I just completed a health class and this was the textbook we used. I learned so much from using this book. This book is precise and to the point. It provides you with colorful pictures, charts, and definitions that's superb. It provides great information on Weight Management, Cancer, Heart Disease, Illicit Drugs, and Alchohol. No health class should go with out this book. This is defintely a great teaching tool for those that are taking a health class, or simply a great reference guide. I give this book five stars. 5 stars (Excellent!) - The 1999 Edition of Access to Health by Donatelle and Davis is excellent! User friendly writing style, colors, charts, references, and a comprehensive collection of chapters that cover all the key personal health related topics. From human sexuality to societal violence, the text covers all the bases. The authors have worked hard to bring this Edition up to date with the most current health research references/topics. I strongly recommend considering adoption for any introductory personal health course. ...

Rachael Ray-s 30-Minute Get Real Meals - Eat Healthy Without Going to Extremes

5 stars (Love It, Love It, Love It!!!!!) - This cookbook, is in my opinion Rachel Ray's best one yet. It's creative, original and very tasty. Never boring. It suits all my cooking/diet phases from low cal to low carb and everything in between. The best part about her recipes is that they are easy to tweak if you should come across an ingredient that you don't much care for without losing the flavor of the dish. I love the stuffed tomatoes! I bought this book as a birthday gift for my sister and almost couldn't give it to her, I did, and I went back to the store the next day and bought it for myself. Some opinions are just evil and nasty. Some can't tolerate watching Rachel's show and that's okay, the show is probably geared towards viewers who don't have a stick up their ... anyway. Great book and even greater gift! My sister loved it too! 5 stars (Rachel Rays cook book) - It arrived on time & in great condition. Great product, very pleased. 1 stars (At least you don't have to listen to her) - Sounds like of a "Catty" title, but I'm sorry. Some of her recepies are good, but no real nutritional values are listed, especially for being touted healthy and fast meals. I'm sure Ms. Ray has a devoted following, but after trying to watch her shows on Food Network, I find it better to read a recepie, than trying to listen to her. With her gravelly-rough cigarette voice, I find it hard to concentrate on her talking. On television she comes accross as White Trash, Redneck cooking. Does she have any cooking school behind her, or is her entire repetoire' just throw this together and your friends will find it "cool". Anyhow if you like Mizz Ray you will probably like this book, and spare your ears at the same time. Me I actually prefer, Giada De Laurentiis, and Sandra Lee. 1 stars (Nice Book if You Can Get It) - Why did Amazon even bother putting this book on their site? I have waited 4 MONTHS for it. There seems to be no place in the world where this book can be obtained. Granted the author and publisher are partially to blame for putting this book in such small distribution, but why would Amazon bother to say it can be ordered through them? I hope anyone considering this book realizes it's just not worth the wait. 5 stars (This book is a bargain) - If you are a person who desires to eat cleaner and healthier and have no clue where to begin then this is the book for you. It is not a gourmet "heart attack on a plate" or " Quick n easy unhealthy food" cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and not overly complicated, yet will taste good and be way better than just edible like some other diet foods are. Yummy and nourishing are two words coming to mind right now. Look at the cover and I can tell you the food tastes as good as it looks. Just be sure you really are serious about the Lean, Strong body because that`s what you will get if you use the recipes in this book! 5 stars (Great Book with simple to prepare recipes) - I bought Stellas Kitchen a few months ago and I really like the book. The recipes are easy to follow and well explained for people, like me, who are not experienced chefs. I personally think the simplicity of the recipes is an asset to the book. This is a great resource for those involved in the Iron game. It give many great suggestions for preparing tasty, high-protein meals simply and conveniently. Even my wife who is not especially health conscious likes the recipes in this cook book. I have found the recipes for preparing meats, poultry, and fish to be especially good. I also like the fact that the cook book explains what makes these recipes healthier than the average recipe. The G I Diet - The Easy- Healthy Way to Permanent Weight Loss

5 stars (Weigh loss made easy) - I am a member of Weight Watchers since January 1979. I lost weight and kept it off until 1993 when I had my last child. I kept all the weight I gained during this last pregnancy. I was at 200 lbs and am 5'5" tall. This same weight stayed with me until 2003. I was going through menopause so I began HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Being older my metabolism really slowed down, so I added more weight to my body. I got to 223 lbs and I began to panic, since both my sisters are Type 2 diabetics and are morbidly obese. My own BMI is over 30. I am on medication for HBP and recently was diagnosed with diabetis too. My regiment is diet and exercise and glucose monitoring once a day. Since I am a weight watcher, I began my program to lose my weight again. I kept a food journal and added walking 2 miles 4 days a week to my regiment. I was losing weight the healthy way (1 - 2 lbs a week), but after 4 months, my weight just stayed the same. I would lose 2 lbs and the next week gain them back. This cycle continued for about 6 weeks. I had already purchased the G.I. Diet but never read it. Imagine that... but when I decided to give this book a try, I was impressed so much by Mr. Gallop's writing and how it seemed that he was speaking to me and my way of life. I decided to try it, after all I am a lifetime member of weight watchers what could it hurt. After being on this diet for 2 weeks, I lost over 3.5 lbs. My energy level is up and my mind is focused. I cannot believe how clear my mental well being is now that I am following this food plan. I love it and highly recommended this to both my sisters.
