The Five Love Languages for Singles Chapman- Gary

1 stars (Devolves into Christian dogma) - When I read the original "5 languages of love" 3 years ago, it changed the way I related to the important people in my life. I also learned how to ask others to show their love in a way I could understand. So, when I saw that Chapman had written a book for singles, I ordered it immediately. I couldn't be more disappointed. While the original book presented sound and common-sense psychological research and insights, the newer "singles" book has devolved into far-right Christian dogma. While the original book was 'descriptive', telling one how to show love in a way one's mate could understand, the new book is 'prescriptive', demanding that one have "wholesome" relationships according to ultra-conservative Christian sensibility. The section on "loving touch" repeats over and over that sexuality is to be expressed only within the bounds of marriage, a view that won't help the majority of possible readers. Even if you're single, skip this disappointing book and find the original in a used bookstore. 5 stars (It is great!) - This book is great! I learned so much not only about how I like to be loved but also about how others like to be loved. It has changed my perspective on interacting with my friends, family, and future husband. I have received great responses from the people around me that I care about. 4 stars (Great book) - Chapman has done an excellent job at coming down to the fundamentals of the ways people feel loved. The love languages he describes can be in any relationship, not just dating relationships, but the book focuses on these types of relationships. He gives EXCELLENT examples of people he has counseled regarding how to show interest and affection to the one they want to develop a deeper relationship with. The book help demystify and clarify some of the communication gaps that go on in relationships. 5 stars (General evaluation) - 1.Is this an in depth presentation? This book discusses the five love languages and the variants of each. The book serves primarily to introduce the reader to these languages and their "dialects". There are also many examples in the book of how the different love languages operate in the lives of married couples. I would say that the book is a very good and workable introduction to the topic, but not an in depth presentation. 2.To what extent does the author address current situations? The five love languages are applicable to all people in all situations. These love languages are as old as the human race itself and that makes the book very topical. This book develops the theme of the five love languages around the covenant of marriage. Couples where spouses are not fulfilling each other's emotional needs will find a new approach to their marriages in this book. This book can also be applied to other relationships and the reader will learn to express his love to other people in a constructive manner. The book will also sensitise the reader to his own love language making it easier to communicate his need for love to other people. 3.Was there any new information? The five love languages discussed were new information to me. The love languages are: *Words of affirmation - the love that is communicated by speaking words of edification to a person. *Quality time - the love that is communicated by setting aside specific time to spend with a person. *Receiving gifts - the love that is communicated by giving gifts to a person. The gift can also be the gift of self. *Acts of service - the love that is communicated by being a servant to someone. *Physical touch - the love that is communicated by physically touching someone. 4.What impact did the book have on me? Inorganic Chemistry 3rd Edition

3 stars (Lukewarm chemistry) - M&T was used for the intro. inorganic chemistry course that I TA'd, and I found that while all off the essential inorganic topics are covered the book focuses primarily on symmetry and molecular orbital theory. Truly, it makes MO theory very accessible (a fine preparation to carrying on with Cotton's Chem. App. of Group Theory). I recommend this textbook for courses and individuals focused on developing these areas, but in terms of physical inorganic chemistry, this book is lacking. There is only one chapter spent on main group chemistry, hardly enough space to mention more than a small spattering of information. The solid state chapter is also disappointingly weak. However, in terms of illustrations and ease of readablity, this book succeeds. Overall, while the book does not miss any "essentials," it does little more than skim a large section of inorganic chemistry. 4 stars (1st year inorganic chemistry text) - This was the book used for 5.03 (Inorganic Chemistry I) at MIT for Spring 2004. I thought it was a great book in terms of examples and explanations of point groups & molecular orbital diagrams. A lot of the chapters seemed to be organized such that the essential information was presented first, followed by applications and interesting side notes for each of the topics. This was very helpful when skimming before the final! I also recommend the solution manual!! 4 stars (A good one semester advanced inorganic chemistry text) - It's hard to write an inorganic textbook that will please everybody. In general, there are three different types of undergraduate inorganic chemistry courses offered: 1) One semester Descriptive Inorganic (pre P. chem) 2) One semester Advanced Inorganic (post P. chem) 3) Two semester sequence (post P. chem) Missler and Tarr's text is written for the second audience. Gary Grigsby-s World At War

2 stars (World at War is not for the "DIE HARD" wargamer) - I have been wargaming for over 30 years. I do not care for this game as there is no diplomatic abilities what-so-ever. There is no way to persuade Spain to join the Axis. Yugoslavia signed the Tri-partite treaty and became a member of the Axis, even if only for a short time due to a British led Coup d' Tat. Turkey massed 3 million men on the Russian border waiting for Germany to win at Stalingrad. so they could join the Axis by declaring war on Russia. The game is very complex, not realistic and to stiff to play. As a member of the Europa Association in the early 90's and the flexibility and freedom that a board game gives you. This is not for a person that wants flexibility and the ability to change history. I was expecting to much from this PC game. If you want flexibility and the opportunity to change history, do not buy this game because it is not there. you can be the Germans and lose every time...you can be the Japanese and fair worse than they did in real life. If you only ever want to be the Allied powers then this is the game for you because you can destroy the Axis each and everytime. This game was a waste of money. if it is Axis and Allies you want then buy it and save the money for something more worth while 5 stars (A Great Strategic Game) - After reading all the reviews you get the feeling this is a love it or hate it game, but that isn't the whole story. Yes there is a 120 page manual that comes with the game, but there are also two tutorials that show you how to move and how production works. Once you have learned these two you can begin to play without reading the entire manual. If you have some experience playing computer war games you will find learning to play this one intuitive after a few trys. Production is not unchangeable at the begining of the game. You adjust production each turn. In fact you are prompted in the tips section for the Germans to disband the carrier fleet ...

Golf for Dummies

3 stars (not really for dummies) - I am as dummy as you can get them as I bought the book to prepare myself for my first golf lesson. However, in my opinion the book is not really for people who know nothing. It seems more suitable for people who already play some golf, but who want to know a bit more around it (famous players, nice golf courses,...), but less suited for people who want to save some bucks by preparing themselves for serious golf lessons. Often the 'Dummies' books are really funny, but in this one I thought the jokes were often too artificial. Perhaps golf is no fun? 3 stars (Not everyone is a dummie) - This book (I have the original version) is entertaining and useful in that it includes the whole golfing experience, from selecting clothes to on-course etiquette. But it is not anywhere near the only golf book you'll need. The photography used to illustrate technique is not as clear as it might be. The authors use a lot of space dropping names of celebrity golf pros they know and telling amusing stories. I found myself always looking for more detail, more physiology and more physics. Golf for Dummies is very good for neophytes, but not enough for those who become enthusiasts. 4 stars (Good Golf Book) - This book has many tips on how to play better golf. The pictures are good and easy to follow. All in all a pretty good golf instruction book. If you really want an awesome book on golf instruction get: The Ultimate Golf Instruction Guide: Key Techniques for Becoming a Zero Handicap Golfer or Better by Patrick Leonardi isbn 1933023090 This last book showed me how to improve with techniques that are much easier to follow. My scores are now finally improving. In fact, every month since using this book, my scores have improved by about one stroke per month. I highly recommend it, nothing else on the market like Leonardi's book. ...

Mind Gym - An Athlete-s Guide to Inner Excellence

2 stars (Not well written, rehashes other books.) - I have just about every book on the topic of sports performance. I've read others that were more impactful and helpful. Granted, this book is good if you're just looking for some inspiration that might eventually lead you to results. For immediate results to use on one's game, however, this book isn't it! As another reviewer said, it's clumsily written. For my hard earned money, I'd like something that I can actually use on my game right away. If you're a couch potato athlete that only watches a game, this book is probably good. My brother-in-law loves it. He's never played a sport in his life, but is a big fan. For competitive athletes who are more interested in RESULTS and can get their cliches from TV announcers, this book isn't for them. I'd give it one star, but those who've met the guy seem to like him enough to log onto amazon and write a review. Nothing personal, but I can't give this anything like the rating the others did. 5 stars (Excellence for all life's pursuits) - Mind Gym is one of my favorite books to pickup whenever I need a little inspiration and encouragement. While the many stories and quotes are derived from the world of professional athletics, the book is really about creating excellence in one's life with applicability to any pursuit and any profession. The main theme is that once one reaches a certain level of competency, the level he achieves in performance will be determined by how well he learns to utilize his mind. With this, the author takes us on a fascinating tour of the minds of some of the world's greatest coaches and athletes; their successes, their challenges, and the mental tools they employed to succeed. The Team Captain-s Leadership Manual

5 stars (A Must for Leadership) - This is perhaps one of the most important books I have read as a coach. It was very concise and offered excellent suggestions. It was written to I could relate and the players will be able to relate. I am going to implement this book as a preseason tool to better develop leaders and team chemistry. This book will be very thought provoking and bring alot of things out that normally wouldnt have been thought of. The step by step process is excellent and really makes alot of sense. Jeff Janssen did a great job with it, I just wish it wasnt so expensive... 5 stars (My leadership guideline!) - I know how important leadership is to the success of any group and yet I didn't have a methodical, clear and consise way of teaching the players/leaders on my team what it takes and what it means to be a leader. I used this book extensively this past year and it is the first time that I felt our team leaders had the information they needed to be effective....and they were!
