Shadowed- The Final Judgment

5 stars (A Call to Courage) - Once again corraling his skills in sci-fi-ish mysteries, Jerry has provided another title with a deeper purpose. That's to cause readers to ask how valuable they regard their faith in the God who's promised to put a punctuation mark on the end of history. Jerry's books are in a league by themselves. Yes, he crafts page-turner novels. But he also forces us to put ourselves in the characters' shoes and ask what we'd do if our lives depended on what we believed as eternally true. ...

Finale Guitar 2003

2 stars (Slow and difficult to learn) - I purchased Finale Guitar to finally get onto paper all of the hundreds of guitar arrangements I currently play from memory. It was a reasonably priced non-shareware guitar notation program so I thought it would be better. Well after using the program for several months, I am still having to go to the help files just to do the simplest of tasks. First of all I am a computer programmer, so I regularly learn and use all sorts of computer programs. I understand that everything has a learning curve, but this program is very frustrating in that it is not at all intuative. The main frustration comes from the fact that EVERYTHING that should be simple and out front or copy/pasteable is buried in a menu and dialog box somewhere. Also not all of the objects on the page can be simply "copied and cloned", then properties of the copied item changed, like a word processor. Even selection of things to be copied often requires some special dialog to copy it in a certain way. In other words if you are expecting to be able to put a chord on the page, then copy and paste it 20 times and simply change the attributes of all your copies to new chords, you are out of luck, you will basically have to do each from scratch. Also if you need to change the key without transposing the notes you are out of luck. Most operations cannot be done with copy/paste, you must go through all the gyrations of buried menus over and over, not much of just right clicking to get a properties window that does what you expected. It appears that they tried to simplify things by forcing you into a 'mode' for every separate operation rather than just picking one simple sequence that people understand and making all operations conform to that. I was not looking for a program to do midi playback/creation I wanted an easy and powerful notation program to get stuff on paper, so I am not reviewing the sound/midi aspects. This may be powerful but it's difficulty and ...

Apple Final Cut Express HD Mac

5 stars (Great Program!!) - This is a great program for your mac... I've used it in a film class the previous year and it took me a year to really get the hang of it. Because it has no tutorial I recomend you find someone who has used this and get them to give you a few lessons. 4 stars (Just starting out -- and it's daunting, but feature rich.) - I've used iMovie for several projects over the last year and a half and decided to upgrade to Final Cut Express HD when working on video of my wife's niece's wedding. Apple sells it as an a step up in features from iMovie, but -- wow! -- it give you a lot more flexibility but at a huge cost in complexity too! The Apple magic of making something simple enough to let you concentrate on the creativity and not the mechanics of the project seems missing here. IMPORTANT: An employee at the Apple Store near me confided to me that there is very little difference between Final Cut Pro HD and Final Cut Express HD. The extra $700 for the Pro version allows outputting your movie in broadcast quality -- if you don't need that, he said, you can save $700 and buy the Express version. I had just seen the employee give a short in-store class on Final Cut Pro and he said I could do EVERYTHING he did in the class EXACTLY the same way in Final Cut Express! He said the only way you could tell which is which is by the name in the menu bar! (Maybe this is common knowledge in the Final Cut Pro/Express community, but I couldn't find out exactly what was different on Apple's website.) IMPORTANT: There is NO TUTORIAL included for Final Cut Express -- and if you've never worked with "pro" video editing software, you'll probably need to buy a how-to book. I'm currently reading the Peachpit Press "Final Cut Express" book by Lisa Brenneis (ISBN: 0-321-35026-X). There are a few scattered examples in the online help, but I haven't tried them yet.... 2 stars (Unduly complex, hideous browser) - After experiencing virtually every editing product ...

Apple Final Cut Studio Mac DVD Final Cut 5- Motion 2- DVD Studio Pro 4- Soundtrack Pro

5 stars (User-friendly, efficient editing software) - After working in Adobe Premiere for a couple of years, I switched to Sony Vegas Video for a while and worked with Avid for a few years also. I liked Vegas and Avid much better than Premiere, but once I learned Final Cut Pro, I haven't gone back. It's easily my favorite of the non-linear editing software I've used. Of the 2 negative comments I've seen so far, one had to do with the fact that he had mistakenly been sent only the handbooks and no software. I'm sure that's quite frustrating, but I don't see how he can rate the software 1-star when he DOESN'T EVEN HAVE IT! And the other guy apparently doesn't know too much about Final Cut Pro either. For example, he says that when you place a clip in the timeline it WRITES OVER other clips automatically. In actuality, there is a horizontal line passing through each track in the timeline - if you drag the clip into the timeline and release the mouse when the pointer is UNDER the line (and looks like a DOWN arrow), then the clip will be edited to the timeline as an OVERWRITE edit; if you release the mouse when the pointer is ABOVE the line (and looks like a RIGHT arrow), then the clip will be edited as an INSERT edit, and the clips after it remain intact. It's as simple as that. If that is what James S. Dodds meant when he says you have to "THINK HARD" to use this software... well James, either I'm really good at "thinking hard" or you're in for a long and difficult life, full of puzzles. Plus, the additional software in this Studio package is worth the money many times over - Motion is awesome (though I have Shake and I am more comfortable in that so I tend to use it more than motion), LiveType is incredibly easy to work with and produces quality titles, I don't use Soundtrack too much, and DVD Studio Pro is pretty good also (and easy to learn, especially if you know Sony DVD Architect; at least I picked it up pretty quickly) Overall, this is an incredible pack...

Final Draft 7 Professional Scriptwriting Win-Mac

1 stars (Recommended by Ovie!) - First, read this: "At Ovie, we embrace both the great traditions of filmmaking history - from L'Atalante to Lantana, Pather Panchali to Pulp Fiction -- and the transformative powers of the latest film technologies - from 28 Days Later to Finding Nemo to Russian Ark. The best of world cinema, of Hollywood, of the independents inspires us to create movies that go well beyond mere "consumerist distraction." We are committed to bringing tightly structured narratives, masterful visual storytelling and memorable dialogue to mainstream screens and to entertaining audiences around the world with all the pleasures of character-driven stories well told. REMEMBER - FINAL DRAFT 7.0 CAN ONLY FORMAT A STORY, IT CAN'T WRITE ONE." I'm sure you can see the problem. U.S. movies are sooo bad -- and have been for decades -- because the form attracts so many pinheads. Particularly on the screen"writing" side, but also(see Ovie) on the production side. Final Draft 7.0(and all previous versions) is part of that mountain of [****] which has attracted the screen"writing" flies for years. I'm talking about Mount Fake -- you know: Sid/Syd Field, Robert McKee, coast-to-coast screen"writing" classes, classes in movie bizness, movie plodding, screen"writers" singles networks, ad nauseum. Sadly -- because of the medium's primary post in our culture, and because of its glorious U.S. past --, it seems to especially appeal to loners who know nothing of the world yet have no sensibility in the cave of their loneliness. No one, of course, who had ambitions to be a real writer, would go anywhere near a piece of software dreck like this. What true creator, in any field, would let a company such as Final Draft Inc. dictate such things as spacing, structure, font. No kind. So why the popularity of this product? Because the screen"writing" wad in the land of the free are made up of weenies who couldn't put together an elegant sentence if their lives depended on it. The ...

Syd Field-s Screenwriting Workshop

4 stars (Excellent Stpe By Step Instructions) - Syd Field provides viewers of this "Screenwriting Workshop" with organized assignments that if followed will lead to the completion of a screenplay. Popular and easy to find movies like Shawshank Redemption, Titanic, and Thelma And Louise are used as examples to allow the viewer to see the techniques that Mr. Field competently articulates. One would be well advised to watch the DVD once in it's entirety before attempting any of the assignments to see what will be involved on the grand scale. This way you can see what you will be commiting to. Writing a screenpaly is not a formula, but formulas do exist to complete one. Consider this DVD covering Syd's techniques one of the formulas, or maybe recipe is a better analogy. Most people tweak a recipe to suit the taste of the people they are cooking for. You may tweak Syd's recipe, but if you stick to his original, step by step, you will end up cooking up a finished screenplay. Will it taste good? Well, that depends on the quality of your ingredients. Syd can't give you that. No one can. Syd does give you excellent structure. That's all he can do... and he does it well. Worth every penny. His final speech at the end of the DVD is also very inspiring and heartfelt. Thanks Syd. 5 stars (Thorough illustration of the structure and process) - If you are new to screenwriting or want an overview of what is expected by those who will read your script, this DVD is unsurpassed and complete with useful graphics and top-notch advice. I completely disagree with the 1 star review elsewhere on this page. 5 stars (Syd Field is the Best!) - I have read his books and taken his video course. They are excellent materials to study by. I would highly recommend any of his materials. Obviously the person who rated Syd Field so poorly has no idea what he is talking about - if he were such an expert on the subject he wouldn't be writing bad reviews on Amazon regarding one of the leaders ...

Nancy Drew- The Final Scene

5 stars (Great ) - THis game was so much fun! it is long but one of the best games i have ever played! 5 stars (Secrets Can Kill (12 year old)) - I've read the book on secrets can kill, it's very good, surprisingly the game was as good! You're undercover Nancy Drew trying to solve a mystery at a small high school in Florida, with a big murder mystery of a boy named Jake, your contact is Daryl, there a puzzles to solve and you'll find each of the suspects have a secret, later in the game you'll find out that Jake silenced them by making them be his servants. Anyways I didn't really have much patience as a detective (it would take me hours just to find the clues) so i usually go for help from the websites, uhs is a really good one, it just tells you where the puzzles are and what you have to do to get to the end but it doesn't totally help you figure out the puzzles, and it doesn't tell you who the murderer is. Anyway I really enjoyed this game it's the second Nancy Drew game I've played besides final scene. WARNING: the characters are two d, i know very disappointing but it's still a very good game. Well I won't give any clues away so you'll just have to figure them out :) (or get some online help ;)) Find the murdererm but don't get murdered yourself, and if you do there's always a second chance. 5 stars (secret of the scarlet hand is very GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) - I love the nancy drew games they are always really good and this 1 was 1 of the best!!If get this nancy drew game u will not be dissapointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

Final Draft AV2

1 stars (Quirky program made useless by copy protection) - Buyer beware: Final Draft incorporates an archaic copy protection scheme that will drive you nuts. Every other category of computer software did away with this kind of user-unfriendly copy protection scheme in the mid-80s, but the screenwriting software vendors persist. You're probably better off using Microsoft Word (which is far more robust) and using a simple formatting utility when you're project is finished. If you have any hard drive crashes or hardware upgrades and you forget to de-install Final Draft you will lose your install keys. Tech support is scarce and the online help system is only good for the most basic information. While it should make your life simpler this product will make your life hell. Avoid it like the plague. 5 stars (Best investment I've made for writing.) - I purchased Final Draft a couple of years ago, and it was the best investment for writing I've made yet. I had loads of story ideas in my head, but had no idea how to write a screenplay or teleplay, and didn't have the patience to read a book about it. I am a VERY basic computer user and feared formatting software would be nothing short of a nightmare, but within a month I formatted three one-hour teleplays, started on a screenplay, and knew how to navigate the software fairly well. The Smart-type feature is a lifesaver, and the various view, outline, and report features are incredibly helpful and save loads of time. There are a few features that were more complicated to learn, and as an absolute novice I had some questions that I couldn't find answers for in the program, but overall - I'm thrilled with it and use it everyday. I'd recommend this software to anyone, rank amateur or paid professional ,who's looking for a user-friendly, helpful, and reliable formatting system. 5 stars (There's a reason the whole world uses it -- it's the best) - Final Draft is simply the best there is. Screenwriter is buggy [I borrowed an in...

Final Draft 7-Syd Field-s Screenwriting Workshop DVD Bundle

5 stars (the best screenwriting package money can buy) - This package is a must have. You really feel good about spending that much money because it's a good package. I bought mine from thewritersstore.com and I got even more stuff for $199. This package is a great tool for all screenwriters. If you are having your doubts like I was about which software to get, just go with final draft and be happy. I could rave all day about this software, but the time you can spend reading this you could have already bought the thing. Go buy it. 5 stars (Screenwriting made easy) - My first screenplay was formatted manually, and I know I made some mistakes. Final Draft will help eliminate those errors. I am looking forward to thanking Final Draft when I win the Oscar for Best Screenplay! 5 stars (What They Write With & How To Do IT!!) - Okay, so I found out that Final Draft is the Industry Standard in Tinsel Town. Great. I'll buy one. Check out who uses it on their website. Wow! But the software alone doesn't tell us, say, what goes where and why in a screenplay. It just lays there, blank, with blinking cursor... waiting for some brilliance to be entered by me. Enter Syd Field. I have his books on screenwriting and, although the DVD is a little 'talking head'-like, it did make me understand more about the craft of screenwriting, like plot, story structure, action points and character arcs - the things that make up a really great movie. Take notes while watching the DVD! It made me better and less insecure about taking the movie idea out of my head and Final Draft is a cool tool that formats for you and types things you type alot for you. An excellent combination!! Highly recommend. ...
