The Anger Workbook Minirth-Meier Clinic Series

1 stars (Wasted Money......) - Wow, I know that I can be a fool, but I was definately robbed of $16.00, even after reading the front and back of this very deceiving book! I mean, I know that I need help with anger, but this book just seemed to make me ANGRIER! I spent $16.00 on a wanna-be Bible (Something I could have gotten for free at my FORMER Church) and the contents only seemed to anger me more! Not only did half of their text not make sense, their descriptions of anger and recognizing anger only seemed to categorize the entirety of this country! The verbage used and perspective in which this ~story~ is told borderlines an autobiography of a man named "Tom". If you like a good bedtime story, like to waste time and money, and do not need real anger management help, then by all means buy this "novel". My opinion~ Dont waste your time or money, you already wasted enough reading my review! Kyle.... 5 stars (Great help!) - This book changed the way i veiw anger. Yes, i am a bible believing Christian and this book does use the bible as a source of reference. I learned so much about my anger and the anger of others. It encouraged me and gave me tools to work with to choose to control my anger. I can't wait to read their next book! I also understand how to respond better to angry people. It is a real eye opener! 5 stars (Anger Managment) - This workbook provided immediate results on how to deal with anger. I did not believe anger was an issue with me until I read and understood anger also comes in the form of frustration and irritability. In reading and working through this book I found that I have a choice on how I respond to situations and it's up to me to decide how I will deal with issues in my life. I am glad I purchased this book to use as a reference or to offer to my friends. ...

Ways of Reading - An Anthology for Writers

4 stars (From a Teacher) - I have used this book to teach a freshman writing and reading course at a liberal arts school. Because of the difficulty of many of the texts, it was met by my students with little fanfare. While a few of the pieces are clearly too much for the average freshman (Foucault comes first to mind), most can be used effectively to get them to discuss issues. I have found that the students would rather talk in generals and universals than with the intricate arguments that some of the writers brilliantly present. This is one of the those books that if you decide to use it in a class, then you better be prepared to not only sink with the ship but also be able to provide an inspiring tour of the ruins. 5 stars (Challenging, yet rewarding read) - I had to read this book for my upper division journalism class this fall and found it to be one of the best books that we used in the course. The editors have tried to collect well-written, intelligent documentaries that challenge traditional connections between words and photographs. Included are Edward Said's inspiring piece about the Palestinian holocaust and exile, a piece by Roland Barthes about the meaning of photograph, "Let Us Speak Now of Famous Men," and many others. Although some pieces are better than others, Barthes' piece is more exciting and informative than Marianne Hirsch's writing on the way that children are used in photography. Over all, the collection is a rewarding and challenge book that could be used for any upper division class. (Maybe the reason that previous reviewers did not like the book is that it was not intended for first year college composition classes.) 1 stars (Blah, Blah, Blah) - I had to read this book for my Freshman lit/comp class and it is by far the most pathetic collection of essays every gathered. It is almost unreadable, pretentious, and laughable. It is a collection of essays by writers who think considerably more of themselves then they are due. Subseque...

The Genius of Flexibility - The Smart Way to Stretch and Strengthen Your Body

4 stars (Warning!!! Only read if you want better health, longer limbs etc) - This is a good read. I didn't give it it's fifth star because not all information is new, however it's written in an easy to follow way and if you begin it right away, the results will happen right away. The effects were amazing and you'll notice a difference fast. This is the perfect addition to any exercise collection whether it be in books or dvds. Buy this and begin immediately. You won't be sorry. 5 stars (Self Health for Procrastinators) - Wow no more excuses! This book is so well laid out that even the most resistant amongst us can master this. The results are the hook. The immediate difference is felt and there is a seduction to the exercises that made me keep turning the page.Great mood, great muscles, here I come. Good Morning America show gave too little time to Bob Cooley and stretchers because the book deserves more attention -the best selfhelp tools I've ever read or experienced. Many thanks to Bob's genuis I can own mine. 1 stars (The generosity of Genius) - Through incredibly diligent perseverance over many years. Bob Cooley is able to share the many crucial secrets to human vitality that are described in this book. Don't miss them! They certainly have improved my life. Hyperbole fuels Bob's enthusiasm. If you are a doubter just keep breathing and try the excercises a few times and perhaps you, too, will be laughing and enjoying some outrageous trust in how extraordinary life can be. ...

Understanding and Using English Grammar Third Edition Full Student Edition without Answer Key

5 stars (Clear and easily understandable) - The geniuses that controlled my education decided that I should skip fourth grade reading because they caught me reading Mark Twain in third grade. I can't imagine what in the WORLD they were thinking, as I came to learn years later that in fourth grade reading they taught - you guessed it - grammar! And boy, did I suffer. My written grammar was absolutely horrendous for years, and even though I continued to be placed in advanced or honors English classes throughout high school, whenever my papers were returned to me the "concept" side came back with an A, and the "grammar" side came back with a D or an F. There's no substitute for learning young, but this is the closest thing to it. I've never seen a grammar book that's easier to understand than this one. Forget the Idiot's Guides or Dummies books, and invest a little more in this one and the accompanying workbooks. If you're really interested in boning up on your grammar skills, this will be of tremendous assistance. Also, if you're looking to buy the workbooks, remember that this is the THIRD edition, that it is in blue, and so you should conduct your search for the accompanying workbooks by first identifying those that are blue, and make sure that they're for the third edition. There are several editions available here on Amazon, so buy wisely. 4 stars (For those who crave grammar) - This book is a comprehensive reference grammar/workbook for non-native speakers of English. If you are trying to choose between Azar's grammar books, the "Blue" book is intended for intermediate to advanced students, while the "Black" book is for beginning to intermediate and the "Red" for raw beginners. A grammar outline from the "Blue" book is also available without exercises. The book is divided into chapters covering notorious grammar points, including: verb tenses, modals, passive voice, gerunds and infinitives, singular and plural, adjective clauses, noun clauses, connecting expre...

5 stars (Helpful book) - This book was very helpful in studying for the EIT....by far more helpful than any of the other books that I've seen. 5 stars (Great Study Manual) - This manual provides you with the basic concepts you will need to succeed on the FE. 5 stars (question) - If the test is changing its format for October 2005, does that mean this book won't be relevant for the next test? ...

How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci- Seven Steps to Genius Every Day

2 stars (Kind of Pointless...) - The book was very well written and i must say that i really did enjoy the introduction chapters which was filled with bits of Leonardo's life, work, and other mentions of factual knowledge that was quite interesting. However, once the core of the book started to unfold it became very dry reading and the "self-help"'ish way the book is written becomes monotonous and i began to feel that Gelb himself is just too over enthused about Leonardo Da Vinci. I agree that he is a very noteworthy person to idolize and model your own life around to some extent but in some of the sections dealing with the senses and "what to do's" it seemed like he was stretching a bit and making Leonardo too godlike for his own right. Also, another qualm i had with the book was when he listed his own group of people he felt were noteworthy and i feel that it was tactless to do so because your ranking people from different genres, walks of lfe, skills and talents, and placing them as if it were the olympics in competition and it seemed to be another way to just give more praise to Leonardo in his fascination and obsession to put Da Vinci on some sort of pedestal. Again, i feel Leonardo was a brilliant man but to write a book solely on the content of how to think like him, i feel, is pointless and has no substance because he himself is not writing the book but only a mere fan who has never met the man, has no relevance to the time period Da Vinci lived in, and, again, ISNT DA VINCI writing a book about how to think like him. Many people reading this may say "well, what about biographies, those are people who may not have known the person they are writing about". Very true, but this is not a biography. Instead this is a list of thing you can do yourself to mock the way Da Vinci decided things, thought, and lived his life. These are purely things that only the living specimen that is Da Vinci would know. Any other person writing the book about the mechanics in which ...

The Longman Reader 6th Edition

4 stars (A Good Freshman Composition Reader) - While I am just starting to use this edition (6th) of the text, I have been happy with The Macmillan Reader since I began using the 5th edition in 1999. The chapters on academic reading and the writing process are thorough (but a bit dry), and the portions of the text that deal with each method of development are well-developed and thought out so as to help students get the best idea of what a "good" essay of each variety should and shouldn't include. The essays that are included are a wonderful assortment of old, tried-and-true and newer pieces from authors of varying backgrounds, ethnicities, and creeds. Students usually enjoy the readings I give them (I'd say 80% approval per piece), and with the average length being 5 pages, reading an essay for class and completing a journal entry is not too heavy of a burden any night of the week. The readings vary from "perfect" examples of what the text describes to even a few "what not to do when you write your own" essays that my students never fail to identify as such. I feel that this is, by far, the best reader I have used while teaching Freshman English (this is my fourth text), and I plan on sticking with it for years to come. The price is moderate, the readings enjoyable, and the "educational" chapters stated in a way that both the slowest and most advanced student in the class can come to the same understanding of what "good writing" is. 4 stars (Worth It!) - This may be a textbook, but it is definately worth buying. The instructions on writing were clear and helpful, and the essays were wonderful. I can honestly say that I liked almost every essay in the book! ...

Desk Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria From DSM-IV-TR Desk Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria

2 stars (A Great Manual To Promote Diseases !!) - The DSM IV-TR is a great book to promote diseases that fit the armaments of medications that the pharmaceutical companies would like physicians to use. The problem with the whole DSM serie is that it is mostly subjective and based on speculation. The DSM is not based on hard empirical evidence but on a consensual system by few well-connected psychiatrists on the payroll of the pharmaceutical companies. These same psychiatrists also happen to belong to the American Psychiatric Association and/or work as hired guns/consultants for the APA, which also happens to receive yearly funding or gifts (disguised as continuing education) from the pharmaceutical companies $500,000 worth. The whole process is deceitful and shameful!!! 5 stars (Student to Counselor) - I'll be the first to admit, learning the criteria for all the diagnoses is difficult if not close to impossible. While the DSM is very helpful with all of its background, cultural, and statistics loaded information, it isn't essential for those already in the field. You already had to learn the basics before you completed your degree or licensure program. Now the concern is time and effort. This little guide is easy to navigate through, light-weight, and the spiral bound makes it easy to turn pages to compare between a couple of different classifications (be it BiPolar I Disorder or BiPolar II Disorder). I use this guide everyday at work - and leave that big book sitting on the shelf. 2 stars (format problem) - nice and handy, but i don't like the spiral format. pages are flimsy and begin to rip and shear off shortly after purchase even with careful moderate use. just a waste of money. the only difference between the quick and the desk is the inclusion of the coding chart with the desk reference. ...

Literature for Composition- Essays- Fiction- Poetry- and Drama 6th Edition

3 stars (Literature for Dummies) - This is by all means a decent anthology of literature for an introductory course, and a fairly respectable stab at a guide to good university writing. The selections are for the most part diverse, encompassing Native-American, African-American, Canadian, and English writers. Short fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction and, to a more limited degree, film get a fairly decent treatment here, too, encompassing chronolical - literature from the classical to the contemporary period is treated - and thematic terrain, making this a worthwhile text for students who simply want a brief introduction to all aspects of English. Still, it is a bit unwieldly, and too often feels less like a solid anthology, and more like an 'English-for-beginners' type deal. You get what you pay for, I guess. ...

Literature and the Writing Process

5 stars (Ideal Textbook for Introduction to Literature) - I chose to use McMahan's text because it saves me time as an instructor of English. Composition comprises the most significant portion of a student's grade in a college literature class, and this text teaches students how to write an essay about literature from the beginning of the process to the end. I also like the bonus of a novella, The Awakening, which is often taught at the intro. level but under separate cover. Such a deal. ...

Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum 9th Edition

5 stars (The best apparatus out there) - This cut down by more than half the time it has taken my students to learn to write summaries, integrate sources, understand argument, and write syntheses. Many of the readings are also interesting and productive, especially those on Folklore and Obedience to Authority. I'd teach it in combination with a course reader, though, since there's almost no attention to the process of helping students find their voice and write more beautiful prose. But no one book can do everything, and I plan to keep teaching this one. My students like it too -- with its focus on arguable ideas and the wonderful step-by-step breakdown of the writing process. ...

Alterknits - Imaginative Projects and Creativity Exercises

5 stars (Lovely presentation, innovative ideas) - One of the reasons I love this book is its gorgeous presentation. Let's face it, at least 50% of a book's appeal is how it is photographed and laid out - this book gets an A from me. There are a few projects that are quite "Meh" (like the knitted crowns - though I think my daughter will love one) but the ideas are wonderful. It is worth a look. A small "notebook" is included inside the front cover, it is just knitter's graph paper but a cute idea even if I won't be using it. Knit a window/door screen with nylon thread? Why not? I also love the armchair cushion - I am inspired to find an old leather chair just to make that cushion. Another favorite is the little knitted "lanterns" meant for adding to a string of lights. Wrist warmers have been done to death, but here they are photographed on a model holding a guinea pig - I have to admit, I am charmed :^) A lot of luxury yarns and new ideas for knitting. 5 stars (irresistible for the adventurous knitter) - I LOVE this book. I got it 3 days ago & already have 2 projects started from it! The patterns are so well written; clear & concise. The photography is beautiful! And there are truly new & creative things in here! I love the creative "exercices" sprinkled throughout the book, like "describe your dream knitting day". Or my fave, is to "write down all of things that prevent you from being creative as you want to be, put them in a bag, and throw the bag away". It is a beautiful book that even my non-knitting friends love to flip through! 5 stars (Another Interesting New Entry) - There are a lot of very new, modern knitting books coming out as of late and this is one of them. The approach is away from the ordinary - the knitting most of us grew up with in the 1960-1980's. This book has some great patterns with versatility and it also includes ideas which are following the popular "salvaging" trend - using up old knitted items in new ways. Very n...

Guided Meditations- For Developing Calmness- Awareness- and Love

5 stars (Excellent for biginners) - This is an excellent guide to help figure out HOW to calm a busy mind. The narrator's voice is calming and the delivery is effective. 2 stars (OK, but only fair for the Bodhipaksa) - The only reason I listened to this CD for a second time was to make sure that I gave it a fair chance BEFORE never playing it again. 5 stars (Soothing Voice) - The speaker's soothing voice makes transition into a relaxed, meditative state quite simple and easy. Bagno Piano Exercises Book One

Introduction These exercises were developed in the early 1980s while I was a student at Stony Brook University. They were a byproduct of a supervised independent research project that I did on the anatomy of the hand as it pertained to playing the piano. My motivation for doing it came from my own frustration with the existing methodologies. At the time, I loved the piano so much that I was willing to do anything it took to get better...

101 Arena Exercises - A Ringside Guide for Horse - Rider

2 stars (In an enlightened age, Cherry is still old school) - Cherry Hill has come up with some neat little exercise books to offer you training ideas. But she has some outdated ideas on horse training. Compare the advice you get in her book "The Formative Years" with some of the more enlightened trainers published in the last 20 years. 5 stars (A valuable addition to your equestrian library.) - The number of excellent reviews for this book reflect the application to riders of all levels and disciplines. The most valuable aspect of this book is that it encourages the rider to formulate a plan for their schooling sessions and make a conscious decision not to do the same thing day in day out - something we are all guilty of on occasion. Make your schooling sessions more fun for you and your horse with this informative guide. 5 stars (good for both disciplines) - We love this book! Cherry Hill is such a good author, she explains things in such a way that they are understandable and useful, not just a concept that you might not be able to use. This book will give you and your horse a chance to practice different exercises and break out of the old walk-trot-canter-one-way-around the ring rut. I think this has helped myself and our two horses greatly in our training process. ...

101 Jumping Exercises for Horse - Rider

5 stars (101 Jumping Exercises for Horse & Rider ) - I bought the book originally to add some variety to my training sessions and to obtain ideas on different exercises. Now both my trainer and I do not jump without the book close by. The different grid exercises have added so much to our workouts! Not only has it helped our horses become more confident it has helped our equitation tremendously. I would highly recommend this book for both beginers and the more experienced rider! 5 stars (Perfect book for the hunter/jumper) - I have a fairly green horse, and this book is an amazing help to getting her back and over fences. You can spend more time riding now, instead of having to always think up your own exercises. This book is well worth the money and I would invest in it in a heartbeat if I didn't already own it. 5 stars (Excellent - another must have.) - I haven't even finished reading this book yet, but I just have to say how fabulous it is. I have just started my youngster over fences and have found this guide invaluable already, with 25 exercises involving just ground poles, it is already well used. The exercises build up in difficulty so you are always making progress and at the same time having fun and educational schooling sessions with your horse. I think there is something for everyone, beginner to advanced. As a budget conscious rider training predominantly on my own, I have found these types of guides priceless (see my other reviews) and they have really helped me to formulate a schooling plan each week and our progress has been very rewarding. I noticed that other riders at the barn were using the poles I left out in the arena and so I started posting the excercises on the bulleting board each week - inspiring everyone and creating great feedback and support. I know this is a book I will get a lot of use out of! ...

Mac OS X 10 4 Tiger DVD

5 stars (Sleek Tiger) - The finest OS to date. I was haapy with Paanthere, but Tiger is a steop above. 5 stars (From PC to Mac forever, this OS is amazing.) - I have used Windows for years and used a Mac at my work, I always liked the way the Mac handled graphics and also appreciated their ease of use. Mac OS X is so simple to use compared to Windows XP, it is by far the best OS I have ever used. I have not run into one single glitch, my powerbook has not crashed on me once. It had crashed on me a few times with OS 9, but this one seems to be a lot more stable. I like the dashboard also, you can quickly check the weather, stocks, dictionary or calendar all with a push of a button and built into the OS. You can also download many others for free from the Apple website. Itunes is a great application also and it is something I use all day long. Safari is far more superior in just about every-way compared to Microsoft Explorer, in fact it would take to long to list the benefits. I also liked the ability to run OS 9 in classic mode, so you can keep all your older software and still use them within OS X. If you are sick and tired of the Windows fatal exception errors or sending Windows error reports, then buy yourself an Apple and enjoy stress free living with OS X. 1 stars (Stick with Panther) - I get the spinning beachball and Microsoft Office application crashes about as often as I did in 10.1! I reformatted my hard disk and reinstalled Panther after trying the 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 updates. For my needs Panther (10.3.8+) is a much more robust and stable operating system. ...
