Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN r Examination

5 stars (BEST NCLEX REVIEW BOOK) - I would highly recommend this book if you want to pass the NCLEX-RN exam on your first try. Information learned all those years in nursing school is compacted into this book in such a way that won't make you feel overwhelmed. Diseases and treatments are simply put. The questions at the end of each review tests what you've just reviewed and the rationales provided at the end of each section are excellent. This book is the best I've looked at and I am happy to report that I passed on my first try using this book as my primary studying aid. 5 stars (N-Clex Book) - Perfect condition and is a great study guide for the N-Clex. 5 stars (Wonderful) - Great purchase and I highly recommend it. The CDs are easy to understand and the notebook is clear and simple. Not to much talking; just to the point. 1 stars (For a college grad from an English speaking school) - Totally useless for anyone but a well educated native English speaker with an accent they want to change. No Tesol grad can get anything from this material. The book reads like a post grad textbook. A truly tough read even for me, a college grad and professional and a part time English teacher. This material is completely inaccessable to my wife who is learning english as a second tongue. Waste of our money. 4 stars (great book) - that was really nice trainnig methods once it not only teaches you word repetition but also works on the functional aspects of phonation - great for a Brazilian guy that had a hard time to learn how to "untie" his tongue to speak. ...

Emergency Medicine- A Comprehensive Study Guide 6th edition

4 stars (This book is an excellent learning tool!) - This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel. Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders. The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it. The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy. I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work. 2 stars (Downward Spiral on Autopilot) - *Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide* has long been a well-regarded standard emergency text, useful in day-to-day practice as well as for board preparation. This new edition has advanced the enlightened 'evidence-based recommendations' for changes in practice patterns, however, the lack of editorial control has resulted in a book packed with conflicting information. Each chapter is written by a different consultant, and unfortunately not all of them are up on this concept... we therefore get a series of conflicting statements when there is overlap in topics, and there is no attempt to reconcile this variability. Admittedly, opinions in much of medicine do vary; but outright conflict within a few pages in a standard text without discussion does harm to credibility. Further loss of editorial control is also evident on a close read. It is apparent that a spell-checker was used for proof-reading (substitutions of the nature of "week" for "weak" abound) and in some areas clinical formulae have been mis-stated -- example: calculation of effective osmolarity, pg. 1341 (though correct elsewhere in the book). The Complete Guide to Home Wiring- A Comprehensive Manual- from Basic Repairs to Advanced Projects

5 stars (Excellent book!) - Very pleased! This book is clear and invaluable for teaching you all about wiring - especially if you've never done it before! 5 stars (I did it!) - I compared this book to many others (including the Home Depot book mentioned in another review) before I bought it, and this one seemed to be the most comprehensive, clear and concise for my purposes. I used this book to help guide me through wiring portion in the process of ripping out my entire basement (all the way to the block walls) and rebuilding it. This is a fifty year old house with old "ragwire" wiring, which I replaced as I did the new work. I used the information in the book to do my electrical permit drawings which flew through the permit office with no comments from the reviewer. I installed multiple remote controlled recessed and surface-mounted lighting fixtures and networked the house for computer, video, audio and telephone by following the well-illustrated and clearly written directions in the book. The circuit diagrams proved especially helpful in wiring the multiple-switched and zoned lighting fixtures. All of the work passed the rough-in and final inspections by the electrical inspector without a single comment or change, and not once did I need to call in a professional electrician. I have several more projects on the agenda, including wiring my large shed, some low-voltage landscape lighting and a complete remodeling of the 50 year old kitchen and bathrooms, and this book includes all of the required information. I know I won't need to buy any other DIY books on the subject of wiring in order to finish the projects. Based on the quality and ease-of-use of this book, I went out and bought the Black & Decker book on plumbing. 5 stars (Wonderful Stony Coral and Clam Reference) - The good? This book is truly a comprehensive piece covering probably more than you want to know at times. For example, it explains the chemical reactions that occur during calcification of corals and why additions are necessary. After reading many other references, I must say I am very happy I purchased this volume. Contained in these pages are insights you won't find anywhere else. The book clearly explains the setup and maintenance procedures required to be successful in stony coral reef keeping. The bad? My main gripe is trivial. Guys, how about a larger font size and pictures? I had to do a lot of squinting. It could do with a minor revision of some references that are dated (such as collection of live rock from Florida) as the original was 1994, but make no mistake that all information is relevant. In summary... Obviously at this price it is unfortunately out of reach of the casual hobbyist, which is a shame. However, one could buy this book instead of various "reference manuals" which might be the same at the end of the day. Buy it if you can afford it. I also highly recommend Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals book. 5 stars (Perhaps the best book on reef care) - An exceptional book on the subject. It is comprehensive but I would not say not complete as no book on this subject could be. Still I believe this book to be the best work compiled in book form. Described by many as "the Bible" on the subject it indeed may be but it is not dogmatic as it offers several options and methods and leaves it for the aquarist to use. (Note: This volume covers stony corals and not soft corals). When I started keeping marine aquaria keeping back in 1970 one almost had to employ the skills of a chemist. In those days most people in the hobby?  thought it nearly impossible to care for many of the species of coral now commonly kept. 5 stars (Excellent help) - Although the information in this book is new to me, and seems a little complicated at first, it may very well be the help I need for my nervous Terrier. 5 stars (Great read ...) - This is a great book ... very well written and very thoughtfully written. I enjoyed reading it and Kristen Leigh Bell is obviously knowledgeable; I also appreciate that she takes a cautious and conservative approach to usage of EOs in animals. That being said, I bought this book specifically to learn how to use EOs with cats, and learned that you really can not use straight EOs for cats - hydrosols only. So, while that is great to know, had I know that in advance I likely would not have purchased the book. Still a great read. 5 stars (First Rate!) - Since I have three beloved little dogs, I am a person devoted to providing the very best for my little furry friends. This book has been a lifesaver in caring for them. It has given me so many options for behavior and/or health disorders. Kristen Leigh Bell is apparently the "expert" in her field and it shows through and through this book. If you are interested in natural provisions for animal care, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book. Definitely an authoritative guide. ...

5 stars (Perfect book for amatuer and pro of jewelry making) - Book is full of everything you want to know about jewelry making. This book is about making "real" jewelry not stringing beads. You learn about how fine pieces are made. Good book to see if you are really interested in this craft. Great reference book. 4 stars (Great for Jewelry makers) - I am just beginning in beaded jewelry and purchased this thinking it would help me. It is a wonderful book and great instructions however, it is not for the beader. 5 stars (Nicely Done) - This book is an essential desk-reference for mushroom enthusiasts. The extensive introduction includes articles on "fungophobia" (fear of eating wild mushrooms), mushroom biology, mushrooms and the environment, scientific names and classification, mushroom collecting, mushroom identification, directions on how to use keys, mushroom FAQs, LBMs (little brown mushrooms), habitats, and a list of 70 distinctive mushrooms. This material is followed by a general key to the major groups of mushrooms, and then over 800 pages of mushroom descriptions, organized according to the key, with additional specific keys for each major group. Brief articles are provided for each individual mushroom species, including scientific name, common names (if available), and descriptive information covering (where relevant) cap, gills, stalk, veil, spores, habitat and edibility. High quality black-and-white photographs are provided for many (though not all) species. There is also a section of color plates in the middle of the book referenced by name and page number to the articles in the text. End material includes articles on mushroom cookery, preservation, and toxins, a dictionary of scientific Latin relevant for mushroom study, a glossary, a bibliography, and an index. A metric/inch ruler is printed on the back cover as a useful measurement aid. With its varied in-depth articles and large number of species covered, this book is a treasure-trove of information. It is not quite as visual as other large guides, since not all species have photos, and all the photos in the main text are black-and-white. This approach forces the user to rely on reading the details of the key, which is a very sound approach to identification. Central Park- An American Masterpiece- A Comprehensive History of the Nation-s First Urban Park

5 stars (A Gorgeous Book Commemorating America's 1st Public Park) - Commemorating the 150th anniversary of Central Park, photographer and historian Sara Cedar Miller celebrates the aesthetic, cultural and historic significance of America's first public park with the book "Central Park, An American Masterpiece." This is the park's definitive illustrated history, and offers some of the most gorgeous photographs I have seen on the subject - a difficult task given the number of pictures that have been drawn, painted and photographed of the Manhattan landmark. The book includes over 200 color illustrations, original plans and drawings alongside modern photos, giving the viewer/reader an historical perspective. Accompanying Ms. Miller's work, portraying the park throughout the seasons, is a well written text which highlights the conception and creation of the park and its art and architecture. This is a big, beautiful picture book that would make a wonderful addition to any home or library. It's a wonderful gift idea. I know as I have given it numerous times. Ms. Miller is the parks official historian and photographer and has been since the mid-1980s. For those not familiar with the park and its history, this is an invaluable introduction to the political, demographical, economic and, especially, aesthetic thinking that went into the creation of 800 acres of gorgeous park space in the middle of Manhattan. For those seasoned veterans of NYC history, this is a welcome reminder of the enormous vision and efforts of Calvert Vaux and Fredrick Law Olmsted, as they conceived the park. Nota Bene: A lot of books have gorgeous photos but the print job is miserable ... Others have high-qualtity prints but the photos aren't that interesting ...
