2 stars (Poor compared to Final Draft) - Movie Magic Screenwriter fails miserably in comparison with Final Draft. It is harder to use, less writer friendly, and very, very strange in terms of formatting. Many basic elements are not available in drop down menus and odd questions pop up. The positive is its compatibility with Movie Magic budgeting and scheduling. 3 stars (Lose your CD-Rom Forget it1) - Ok so I haven't written anytthing publishable in a while. So now I want to write a play for a contest and don't have the CD ROM. Try to uninstall it from two computers you no longer have. This is very frustrating as you need to insert the CD ROM to use the program. 5 stars (Movie Magic is magic) - Movie Magic is a very excellent product. 4 stars (A JUMP START TO MY WRITING) - I looked to this product to give me a little push and shove into writing more and organizing my thoughts. So far, it has worked out pretty well for me. It has made me consider in more detail my character developments and conflicts. Don't expect it to write for you, but if you are looking for some organization it is well worth the price. 1 stars (Junk.) - I suggest saving yourself the $34.49 and instead investing in a Bickpen and one of those little black journals we used in school. All this program is good for is keeping a record of character, plot and motivation. Frankly, all you need is a couple pieces of paper for that. 2 stars (Restrictive and time-consuming) - The problem with most novel-writing software I've been testing is that they involve a lot of "writing before the writing." While some planning is good, the amount of data entry these programs require detract from getting actual pages written, and the reality is that all those plans will likely change as you write anyway. This program is no exception. I find all the initial set-up to be cumbersome without yielding benefits that might ultimately actually streamline my process in the weeks or months ahead. (By contrast, for example, Final Draft - a screenwriting program - stores your characters' names so that you only need to type the first few letters and press Enter. You can also toggle your scenes from script to outline and back again without re-entering the information.) As for the more theoretic stuff, the story prompts are clearly taken from screenwriting which is formulaic due to the time contraints of a film. (For example, the lengths of scenes, act breaks, and total number of pages are far more restrictive to fit a 120-minute film than the scenes, chapters, and total pages of a novel.) Because a novel can be far longer than a 120-page screenplay, there's little here for creating stories with complex plots, for tracking subplots, or for creating backstory f...

Brothers in Arms- Road to Hill 30 DVD-ROM

5 stars (Great Immersion, Unsuitable Language For Some) - Never bought a WWII title before, and I had heard good things about this title, so I figured I would give it a try. Gameplay is very intuitive, controls are easy to master in a short period of time. Until you figure out the little things that help succeed in a mission, you can end up doing a mission over several times. Good graphics - great immersion between graphics, sound, and the stress of trying to complete a mission with bullets whizzing by you. ONE thing...In striving for realism, there is some offensive language. I am sure that soldiers on D-Day weren't saying "Golly Gee - someone is shooting at me", so I get their drift. But the truth is, be prepared for it...It starts during the opening scenes. You will hear F***,A**h***, and S*** during the game. There are a few gruesome bodies in the game, but nothing major. All in all, a great game, but not for children, and not for those who don't want that language coming from their speakers. 5 stars (A great game indeed!) - If you want a realistic WWII game, then buy this one. If you want a simple run-'n-gun shooter, then look elsewhere. You won't be charging around killing scores of enemies within minutes either (but you will kill enough to satisfy your trigger finger!). The utter authenticity and feels-like-you're-there atmosphere is absolutely amazing, as is some of the blood and gore one might witness in combat (during certain chapters of the game). But even when you see some of your comrades simply lying still and dead on the ground ahead of you, this game really makes you feel for them -- along with somewhat better understanding the waste of human life that occurs during war. 3 stars (To Leonard Snerdley) - First, this isn't a review of this product. I've seen alot of ridiculous things on the internet, but I came across the review by Leonard Snerdley that I just couldn't believe. Here's a quote from sNerdley "It's helped me realize that I really am a truly gifted writer...". I don't think I've seen someone that full of themselves...ever. Another quote, "But for us creative types, I guess that's not needed - we've always got new and fresh ideas!" Seriously, tell me you're kidding. Apparently not, he keeps going with "This type of thing is mainly for those of us who truly have a future in the business, not the pretenders." (sound of one man throwing up). This has to be a joke, right?! How can someone be so full of themselves while being so condescending towards everyone else on the planet that "should consider another hobby or long-term project". Looking at some of this person's other reviews I can see this guy apparently thinks he's the greatest thing in the world. His profile even screams insecure wannabe talent with "I also seem to be a lone voice of critical reason in a sea of hyperbole." I feel like I'm reading something written by Dr. Timothy Leary...one person can not seriously be this conceited and full of themselves?! 5 stars (Just might make you rich!) - For anyone who knows me, it's no secret that I would love to be a screenwriter. (which was great) But when I sent my guys on a full scale charge around the back, the germans actually attacked me where I was attacking! The AI will actually attempt to flank YOU if you leave that area ungaurded. A new graphics engine makes buildings blow up around you if they are hit by and 88 or something like that. Also, everyone remembers the cool knockdown sequence when Baker was hit by a grenade or something, now depending on the blast, you actually have to go and get your gun that flew out of your hand. The new skrimish mode is pretty cool as well. But they can get really tough playing as the germans. I bought my own copy aproxmately half an hour after playing it. BIA: Earned in Blood is the best WW2 game you will see all year. 5 stars (Awesome Sequel!) - I was a huge fan of the first Brother's in Arms (Road to Hill 30) and this sequel (Earned in Blood) lives up to the original and surpasses it! First, let me get the negatives out of the way... 1. There are some sound issues when firing the weapons. Occasionally in the heat of battle, there will be a delay in sound when firing your weapons. This only occured a few times when I played through the game. (probably like 4 or 5 times....it's no biggy) 2. Write Brothers Dramatica Pro 4 Win-Mac

5 stars (Even the demo makes this software shine) - I have heard about Dramatica Pro for years and never touched it. Now, I finally gave in to get the demo--and stayed up till 3:00 o'clock in the morning! I could not afford to lose the valuable information it was giving me. For those who know their story ahead of time, great! Dramatica helps you know it better. I knew my story dealt with the issues of trust and identity. I knew how these things played out. What I didn't know was that about Impact Characters and the total relationships between my themes, my characters, and the action going on. Using Dramatica forced me to answer questions that probed even deeper into my story than I had known how to go. For this alone, I would buy the software. Particularly so I can go to sleep at night and continue in the morning. 1 stars (Bad software that needs to be upgraded) - DramaticaPro probably has some good points and no doubt would help a lot IF I COULD SEE IT!!! The screen resolution is so bad that I contacted the company to find out how to get larger fonts on the screen and they told me it couldn't be done!!!! I adjusted the screen resolution of my computer in an attempt to be able to read the blasted thing and that helped a bit. But I really don't want giant letters in all my apps just so I can read DramaticPro. Also, I went to the charater part [again] to do a little homework on a story I'm writing and found it way too restrictive. It has several character types but in the world of fiction, there are many more than DramaticaPro knows about. Plus, its terminology is obscure and specific to its theory. But, that is not especially helpful What a shame, it promises so much and doesn't really deliver. A small cheap program that I used in the past is called StoryBuilder. 1 stars (BROTHERS IN ARMS EARNED IN BLOOD) - THIS GAME IS NOT WORTH THE FIFTY DOLLARS I SPENT ON IT. THE ACTION IS JERKY, SIGHTS ARE WAY OFF, INFO BOX'S POP UP AT THE WORST TIMES,ND IT TAKES SEVEN TO TEN ROUNDS TO KILL ONE GERMAN SOLDER. THE CARBINE IS USELESS AND THE YOU NEED A BAR OR MACHINE GUN TO STAND A CHANCE TO GET A HIT. 1 stars (wish it worked, and then there's the starforce....) - I just installed my copy and the game will not accept the serial number that's clearly printed on the manual. So I'm thinking of just uninstalling it.. Then I have to deal with removing the Starforce crap as well. What else needs to be said. BTW There are no support email addrs listed at their website. 1 stars (STARFORCE !!!) - I haven't played it, nor will I. After looking over Reviews/Forums, it appears Ubisoft has now embedded STARFORCE in their PC games. I contacted Ubisoft and they were less than forthcoming about STARFORCE. I read too many posts about this anti-piracy program: how it corrupts ones hard drive; it can't be removed etc. The customer service rep said: yes, this game uses STARFORCE; any other questions you may have should be directed to STARFORCE support. Makes you wonder why they don't include this info on the game box; why they don't have any info at the Ubisoft site. Or maybe they don't include this information for a reason: loss of revenue. I was so looking forward to this game. Since I own Far Cry and Splinter Cell-PT which must be run on a plain CD-ROM drive. I was going to give in and get one installled(...I'm physically disabled and unable to do it) in order to play Ubisoft games. You can read the forums/reviews about STARFORCE and decide for yourself if you want to risk it ? Shame, this company puts out good games. I hope this doesn't become an industry trend. 2 stars (Over-rated product) - Word Menu 2.2 offers quickly accessible words, however the defintions are vague and indirect. Many words you would expect to find are missing, and frankly this is a program that would be most useful for people learning the english language,seeking to understand genres which certain words pertain to. It is my opinion that most english speakers already have a strong grasp on most of these words and subjects they entail; buying this for any trivial benefit of searching words by subjects, is foolhardy. It's not worth 30 dollars, I wish I would not have purchased it and do not reccomend it. If the price was 15 dollars or less, I would suggest "hey why not". $30 is an unreasonable price for this simplistic vocabulary lexicon and is more wisely spent on something else. 4 stars (Good idea, needing attention to basic details.) - This is a very comprehensive resource of categorised words and their meanings, which is easily navigated and understood. Loaded onto a laptop, one has a lot of power easily to hand. The Fractal Browser looks like a good idea and would be a visually attractive feature for school kids. But I would have been happy to ditch this feature in place of having a standard dictionary browsing option outside of the categorised options, and still retain links to the corresponding categories. Another aspect of the Fractal Browser is that the links are images with quite fine text. This doesn't respond to the browser 'Text Size' selector in Explorer. So monitors set at higher resolutions than 800 x 600 will be problematic for users with less than good eyesight. Users of IBM Thinkpads will not be able to get around this. This is also a problem with respect to the category tree. A good product in principle and at a very reasonable price, but falls a little bit short in the overall design, with too much attention to the deluxe features, I think.
