Adobe Photoshop CS2 Upgrade from Photoshop

5 stars (great update) - The improvemnet from the first cs is very good, for one it loads faster, and that in itself is worth the money to upgrade. i havent yet explored the other new features, but I trust adobe. 5 stars (Use only for stand alone PSCS upgrade) - If you use Adobe Creative Suite CS, this is not the upgrade for you. You will need to purchase an entire Suite upgrade. You cannot upgrade only the Photoshop CS application within the Suite. But, Photoshop is a fantastic program that works more smoothly than the operating system underwhich it works. With a couple of plugins from Photokit, it is the best thing for a digital photographer who wants to make dramatic, beautiful prints. 3 stars (Caution to Creative Suite CS users trying PhotoshopCS2 upgrade) - I already know the fabulous new features of Photoshop CS2. I have Creative Suite CS Premium. I purchased this upgrade for Photoshop to gain the new features. After several attempts in trying to install this software, I called Adobe, only to learn that this Photoshop CS2 upgrade does NOT work with the full version of Creative Suite CS....period !!! No where on their packaging is there such a caution. It says it is compatable with all versions of Photoshop. Funny...I have Photoshop CS in my Creative Suite Premium package...but guess what??....so what....it don't work !!!! I've waisted $140.00, and am not gonna spend $744.00 for Creative Suite CS2 Upgrade !!!!!! ...

Fundamentals of Building Construction - Materials and Methods

4 stars (Good book) - It's relatively well written and good for starter who are new to building construction. 5 stars (Surpassed expectations) - Being a student in Construction Management Edward Allen's book was assigned as our text book. The course entitled materials and methods is intended to teach future construction manajors about the wide variety of materials on the market today as well as tradional methods of constructing with these materials. The book is chalked full of knowledge most of which would take a person hours, even days of research to uncover with other sources. It is very comprehensive. If you are active in the comercial building construction this book is a must for your refrence shelf. Residential construction owners/workers would gain considerable knowledge from the book it has plenty of useful information however I feel the book is leaning more towards heavy commercial. 4 stars (Good reading--too expensive) - The author's readable style helps a lot. Also, interesting background material and history begin each chapter, and some industrial processes--glass-making, for example--are explained more fully. You won't regret reading this book, but you may be inclined to sell it when you're through. ...

PMP Exam Prep 4th Edition

4 stars (Very useful + PMBOK must - Passed exam) - Yes this book is good. But ONLY in conjunction with PMBOK guide. The Inputs/Tools/Outputs are not that intuitive in Rita's book. I had several questions that I could answer only with PMBOK's knowledge. 5 stars (Easy to Understand) - Good study guide that is easy to read. Nice sample questions at the end that can help prepare one for the exam. 4 stars (Found it very useful for PMP Prep) - Initially I did not buy this book when I was starting PMP preparation. When I heard about the Book and CD in many forums, I was curious to try it out. The book and CD together turned out to be very useful, even through I wouldn't say those were essential for my prep work. The CD comes with 1300 questions, which gave a whole lot confidence after trying out. The prices are bit high though. I also used Andy Crowe book and lots of reference on PMI web site. I passed PMP with an overall score of 82%. ...

The Codes Guidebook for Interiors

4 stars (Informative) - The Codes Guidebook for Interiors is a simple, straight forward guide to understanding how building codes regulate design. The Not So Big House- A Blueprint for the Way We Really Live

5 stars (read THIS B4 U build your DREAM HOUSE!!!!) - Every real-estate agents SHOULD read this book! BUY and BUILD how we LIVE and not be sold or told as to how we should THINK we should live! GREAT BOOK...food for thought! 3 stars (Good but Not Great) - Although both "The Not So Big House" and "Creating the Not So Big House" are good books with well-thought out concepts, I think you can find better books on the subject. After reading both books, I felt the information rather evaporated, and I was left without some good, basic practical outlines on how to proceed with the house. Fortunately, I came across "The Home Design Handbook" by June Cotner Myrvang & Steve Myrvang, AIA, where at the end of every well thought out chapter, you found a detailed, practical checklist of major issues that needed to be considered before proceeding with your plans. Everything missing in the "Not So big House"(s) was found in this one book, which offered highly useful information. 1 stars (Would have helped to have known .......) - Just having bought an 1887 house in a small southern town, this book was not what I needed. It was well written, beautiful photography and layout, but not within the price range or geographical range. It might have saved me some money if these items of interest to readers had been mentioned. Also - "mission" or "prairie" is not a dominant theme in this area. ...

Interior Design Illustrated

5 stars (Great Resource) - I am currently getting my degree in ID, and I think that this resource is invaluable. The drawings are great and they really help with perspectives and rendering. 4 stars (Excellent but abit outdated) - The auther is fantastic, the book is well written otherwise he wouldn't have got the 4 stars, the book covers the subject from A to Z literally speaking, a must have, BUT it is too much outdated. 4 stars (This is a great book for teaching) - Interior Design Illustrated is a pictoral book with easily understood text. This book gives the reader a chance to learn the basics of Interior Design. I recommend this book for any Interior Design school to be used in their course. ...

Time-Saver Standards for Landscape Architecture

1 stars (buy the book, forget the CD-ROM version) - I've got the book and was hoping the CD-ROM would enhance using the book, but it doesn't. The content is very slim compared to the book, and the CAD drawings that are included are also of very limited use. Don't bother with the CD-ROM version of TSSLA. 5 stars (This book is a must!!!!) - A great book to have. It was a required text for my site technology classes. Kept referring to it. Lots of information. It should be on everyone's bookcase if you're a Landscape Architect student or already in the profession. I highly recommend it. 5 stars (ABD EL MOHSEN SOLIMAN) - IWANT SEE PART FROM THE BOOK ...

Fundamentals of Residential Construction

3 stars (A modified "Fundamentals of Building Construction") - This is awfully similar to the book in the title. Even down to the same photos separating the chapters. I'd buy F of BC if I had to choose, since it has so much more material. There's nothing in here that cannot be found in the two other Rob Thallon books. 4 stars (Great book, but overpriced) - I bought this book sight unseen because I also have Rob Thallon's book "Graphic Guide to Frame Construction" and was pretty impressed with it. While "Fundamental of Residential Construction" is a very good book on all aspects of residential construction, there's isn't that much of an improvement on the typical voc-tech textbooks on construction (which are available for less) to make it worth the price. ... 5 stars (THE reference for Designer, Builder, or Student) - Fundamentals of Residential Construction is a welcome update for my reference library. As a residential architect, it is refreshing not to have to wade through irrelevant commercial methodology. This edition is residential specific, but broad-based covering alternative building systems and the most current construction materials. I especially appreciate that it begins with chapters on the context for construction, and the construction and design communities, areas of discussion most often neglected. The well-balanced mix of diagrammatic and photographic details is very helpful. I highly recommend it for both the student and the professional. ...

A History of Interior Design

5 stars (The Wonderful Mr. Pile) - History of Interior Design is great. I study interior design and, without John Pile's books, this wide-ranging subject would have been far more difficult. Studying the subject "history of interior design" would have been such a struggle for me without having this book at my side. I just couldn't find all I needed on the internet. Apart from the high quality paper and excellent images, John Pile has a writing style that gets his point across very clearly. That makes for rapid reading and faster absorption of information. ...

Arboriculture- Integrated Management of Landscape Trees- Shrubs- and Vines- Fourth Edition

5 stars (Overflowing with information) - Arboriculture is a science and art that is made up of many different contributing factors. This book does a very good job of covering them all. Any one of the chapters could be expanded into a book in itself. This thoroughly researched and written book is for the person who wants all of their information in one place. It is a textbook for the technically minded arborist, tree surgeon, tree farmer, or hobbyist. Don't look for this book to be entertaining or philosophical. Instead, buy this book for the knowledge held within. There is a lot to be learned from it. Every single page is filled with facts, figures, methods, and recommendations. You will find yourself reading every page a second or third time in order to catch it all. I refer back to this book on a regular basis, because there is no way I can remember it all. If you have any questions about the management of trees or shrubs, you will likely find it in this book. 5 stars (The Book) - Harris wrote the first edition of this book when trees were "trimmed" by the same people who patched asphalt and repaired park benches. It was a breath of rationality in a field that relied mostly on anecdotal information. The new edition reinforces this work as the compendium of current thinking about how to care for trees. Clark and Matheny build eloquently on Harris's solid foundation. The public participates actively in caring for trees and demands to know information found in this book. Why not plant the biggest caliper tree you can find? Can't you do something about the tree roots "breaking" up my sewer? Open the book and show them the brief but definitive answer that is easily found here. I wish more citizen tree advocates would read this book. For that matter, I wish more arborists would too. ...

Building Construction Illustrated- 3rd Edition

3 stars (Informative but could be more detailed) - The book is informative and well illustrated. It's written for the professional builder. This book provides more detail than some of the other books I've studied on building construction. However, the book could be more specific about recommended methods and provide more detail. For example, the book describes using joist hangers to install floor joists. It should also suggest that if possible, joist hangers be nailed to the RIM board or beam before the RIM board or beam is installed. 4 stars (Building Construction Illustrated, 3rd Edition by Francis D. K. Ching) - a fairly good book for Architects and students. It covers a lot of topics about construction. 5 stars (Awsome Book) - This book is excellently written and illustrated. A great resource for anyone involved in construction. ...

Professional Practice for Interior Designers- 3rd Edition

5 stars (Get It!) - This book reads like a friend whispering all the good advice and secrets of the interior design business in your ear. I wish my Professional Practices class had used this text. It's a lot of information but Christine Piotrowski truly takes you by the hand and lets you know what you need to prepare for in a budding interior design business as well as how the interior design business is done in general. I will be referencing this book again and again. A huge thank you and bravo to Christine Piotrowski 5 stars (Must Have!) - This book was used for both Business Practice For Interior Design & Sales and Marketing. I had no need to consult any other source. "This is a great book" THANKS.. 5 stars (Fantastic!) - Outstanding, fabulous, fabulous book. Extremely helpful to me in starting my own firm. Well written. Interior Graphic and Design Standards

5 stars (One of the best.) - A very informative and usefull book for all designers. 1 stars (DO NOT BUY! it's hard to imagine a more worthless book) - This book is a fiasco. As a professional in commercial space planning for many years, I picked it up based on a 'glowing review'. I find another few good ratings here on-line. The authors mother must be writing them, because no one who actually attempted to verify the faulty and incomplete information within, could ever see this tome as worth the paper upon which it is printed. One reviewer was accurate though; it isn't a bad door stop. 3 stars ( Interior Graphic and Design Standards ) - This is a very good book. Color in Interior Design

5 stars (The Basics of Color Design) - I found this book to be extremely useful in learning the principles behind choosing color schemes. As with anything, application and practice will fine tune one's abilities, but C.i.I.D. proved to be an excellent resource guide. Highly recommended! 4 stars (Extremely useful.) - I'm a do-it-yourself homeowner, not a professional, but I found this book to be a great resource as I plan out my house. "Scientific" enough to let me understand why color combinations work as they do (and help me design my own schemes) while still completely clear to the lay person. If you're serious about understanding color, this is an extremely useful book. ...

Site Engineering for Landscape Architects

4 stars (Great Site Design Reference) - I was a bit tentative when I started to use this text. The book has some minor editing problems, but if your desire is to really understand site design with an emphasis on drainage and grading plan design this text does the trick and does it well. I would recommend this book to any Jr. land development designer/engineer as a must have reference. 5 stars (Great reference book!) - This is a great book to have on your shelf. Kept referring to it for my Site Technology classes and I know I'll be referring to it in the future. I found it very helpful and clearly written. Would highly recommend it. 2 stars (Thorough but Poorly Organized) - Puchased this text to help review for the LARE exam. The text has all of the necessary information but is not layed out well. Illustrations are not located on pages where they are referenced in the text making it so that you have to flip back and forth across several pages to understand the text in relation to the examples. The larger problem with the book is that the answers to Exercises are not given. You will have no way to determine if you are completing the problems correctly or not. The only way to find out will be to have them reviewed by another Landscape Architect or Engineer. The text functions well as a reference for Landscape Architects to review formulas or storm water calculation techniques but if you are trying to use it for developing skills or for exam preperation I would not recommend it. ...

Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction Ramsey-Sleeper Architectural Graphic S

1 stars (Readers' Digest Version of AGS) - Although these editions change little, this review is based upon AGS 10th Ed. & AGSRC 2003. Negative: This is bascially a regurgitation of the more complete Architectural Graphics Standards, distilled to a "residential" focus but appears as volumous because some details have been photo-enlarged (in poor-average quality). Few, if any new residential details/information has been provided. Positive: Those ONLY interested in residential construction and NOT requiring a full brace of ALL details will find this quite a good value - compare its price to Architectural Graphics Standards. Recommendation: Anyone in construction should have one, but not both of these books as a prime resource. The content does improve every year, although some years it's like watching grass grow. Challenge: IF there are numerous portions of the Residential version that are unique and new to it, exclusive of passages in the larger AGS version - I would really appreciate a review that contains how to locate these passages, as I've spent enough time trying to find them. If enough of these exist, it would give thought of updating this resource once in awhile. 3 stars (One volume encyclopedia) - Experienced readers will benefit from its brief summaries and drawings covering the broadest range of topics imaginable. Some economizing is evident in the paper and printing quality, some of the drawings look 50 years old, but there is lots of reference information, like span tables, solar position data, etc. Probably not the last word on every topic, but still worth consulting. 5 stars (A wonderful resource) - Following in the terrific legacy of the benchmark Architectural Graphic Standards book, this edition clearly makes building for residences an easier task. I've found innumerable details that I've used in my residential practice on a daily basis, details not found in other reference books. Of particular help are the pages that give an overview of...

A Field Guide to American Houses

5 stars (Great Photographs-Line Drawings Weak) - At 525 pages, Virginia and Lee McAlester's " A Field Guide to American Houses " is an exhaustive study of the different styles of American domestic architecture. They identify and categorize 39 different architectural styles. This is much more than most field guides. I have been collecting architectural field guides for a number of years. The only thing I do not like in this well prepared book is the over-reliance on black and white photos of homes. The quality of the photos vary significantly. The photos are not of the same high caliber as the photos taken for Historic American Building Survey.(HABS) I believe the best field guides are made up line drawings. Line drawings get to the point and the different archiectural features can be labled. The best line drawings really help in clarifying stylistic points. Photos can be distracting because trees, power lines and vehicles end up in many of the photos. There are line drawings in this book at the beginning of each section. Unfortunately, the line drawings are the weakest part of the book. This is a great book and you cannot go wrong with purchasing it. However, as a devotee of these types of books, I would recommend purchasing Lester Walker's "American Shelter". His illustrations are really beautiful and very informative. 5 stars (Great Book for Preservationists!) - This book has helped me through school! Its a great book to have in your collection if you study preservation or interested in architecture! 5 stars (Invaluable Reference) - You will truly value this book if you are interested in the styles of residential architecture in America. After an engaging survey in the introduction, the styles and movements are presented in chronological order. Also included at this point are outline drawings of the various types of houses, illustrating style, basic shapes, elevations, plans, types of materials and building techniques used as well as a pictori...
