A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature

4 stars (The best dictionary for NT Greek) - This is the *best* NT Greek dictionary for students of the Greek New Testament. Thorough scholarship; many entries exhaustively categorize word meanings and all provide references to other ancient literature. A necessity for doing scholarly work in the New Testament, and a serious reference tool for the pastor or student. If you do any work in the NT, you *need* this lexicon. The 3rd edition revamps the earlier glosses and attempts to provide definitions for words. Also has words from the Apostolic Fathers and other early literature. However, the price is VERY STEEP. Especially for students. If you are a student on a tight budget (and don't need to purchase the latest and greatest copy of Bauer), I would recommend doing obtaining a used copy of the 1st edition, which can be found for under $30 at the time of this writing. The glosses are basically the same in 1st and 2nd edition, the only thing that is changed are that more mistakes are corrected. The 3rd edition's definitions are nice, but in general I find it is more helpful to get glosses to point me in the right direction and use a concordance/search program to get a better understanding of how a word is used in the NT. 5 stars (THE Greek lexicon for New Testament research) - For anyone serious about studying the New Testament or New Testament Greek, this is the lexicon of choice. Perhaps that which sets it apart the most is its thorough references to early Christian literature at the time. This gives us a fuller understanding of what words actually mean. Too often we are confined to other examples within the canon of Scripture itself for further light on what a word means. Here we are taken much further. The Craft of Research- 2nd edition Chicago Guides to Writing- Editing- and Publishing

5 stars (Excellent book!!!) - As one customer reviewer pointed out, this book is more for the student and higher education academics who are required to do and publish research. I purchased the book and read it in its entirety within a matter of days. It is very well written, and the structure and format are highly systematic. The "Craft of Research" has been the best reference tool I've come across that will help me to produce a doctoral dissertation that I will be proud to defend. One further point: Readers of this book should also consider a companion book, "The Craft of Argument," authored by two of the current book's coauthors. 4 stars (Writing - not Methodology) - This book is not about research methodology (as one may initially expect), but rather about how to write reports in a more efficient and convincing manner. To wit, the authors are from English and Literature Dept. Yet, considering that scientists often face difficulties in expressing their thoughts and research work, this book turns out to be very useful. It includes multiple "tip" pages at the end of each chapter. 5 stars (Always remember...) - The reader is another person. Regardless of the rules, talk to that person! Lay it out in human terms... Than another person can relate to. There is no excuse for bad writing. - Clint Arthur, author of "Free Your Love Now" 4 stars (Embrace the Power that is Turabian!) - I used this for several years as an undergrad, and now that I'm being sucked into APA-heck, I look back on it fondly. It covered everything I ever needed to know to write a paper. Some reviewers have complained that it is not sufficiently modern, that it does not provide a citation style for web pages, etc. This is incorrect. Section 8.141, on page 151, shows us how to do this. (Some ellision from the demonstrated form will probably be necessary, but it works.) You didn't invent the internet, kids. It's been around for a few years, and the grown-ups really do know about it. Turabian, Grossman, and Bennett did make several assumptions about the reader of their book. They assumed he or she is capable of using a table of contents, and of reading rather large chunks of text and assimilating or marking the relevant portions. If one lacks the intellectual fortitude to do that, one should probably skip this manual and ask their instructor if they can use the "Golden Books" or "DC Comics" manual of style. 5 stars (Accentuate the positive) - Have you ever noticed that more people read the good reviews more than the bad ones? This book is appropriate for what it is meant for. If you know Turabian died prior to a new edition of the book, then maybe you should be using your PC to search for electronic resources (using Turabian font in the search engine)..... and not wasting time being negative... ...

The Chicago Manual of Style

5 stars (Comprehensive resource) - I am currently using my Chicago Manual of Style for law journal editing. It's a great comprehensive resource for style, grammar and usage. I don't know what I would do without it! 5 stars (Solid) - There are a number of style manuals out there. This one is no-nonsense, authoritative, and well-respected. If you want to learn to sharpen your writing and language skills, it would serve you well to study this text and keep it handy for reference. 5 stars (usefulness without end) - Keeping a copy of the 15th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style nearby is like having a friend to consult over matters of writing style. Whether or not one intends to abide by "the rules", it is certainly useful to have ready access to them. ...
