1 stars (So-so, look at others before you buy) - This book was so-so. It contained a lot of highly basic material. I was not really impressed with Dr. Loehr's theories about sport. It seemed that he did not have much access to sport himself. The examples that were given were very modest and could have used some help. I would only reccommend this book to someone who has rarely particiapted in sports...too basic for the advanced. 2 stars (A little over the edge...) - This book has a lot of terms and things that don't make a lot of sense. The intentions in this are great, but I want a book that is straightforward. The exercises aren't bad, but the talk isn't all that motivational. 5 stars (excellent book. Mind Gym - An Athlete-s Guide to Inner Excellence

2 stars (Not well written, rehashes other books.) - I have just about every book on the topic of sports performance. I've read others that were more impactful and helpful. Granted, this book is good if you're just looking for some inspiration that might eventually lead you to results. For immediate results to use on one's game, however, this book isn't it! As another reviewer said, it's clumsily written. For my hard earned money, I'd like something that I can actually use on my game right away. If you're a couch potato athlete that only watches a game, this book is probably good. My brother-in-law loves it. He's never played a sport in his life, but is a big fan. For competitive athletes who are more interested in RESULTS and can get their cliches from TV announcers, this book isn't for them. I'd give it one star, but those who've met the guy seem to like him enough to log onto amazon and write a review. Nothing personal, but I can't give this anything like the rating the others did. 5 stars (Excellence for all life's pursuits) - Mind Gym is one of my favorite books to pickup whenever I need a little inspiration and encouragement. While the many stories and quotes are derived from the world of professional athletics, the book is really about creating excellence in one's life with applicability to any pursuit and any profession. The main theme is that once one reaches a certain level of competency, the level he achieves in performance will be determined by how well he learns to utilize his mind. With this, the author takes us on a fascinating tour of the minds of some of the world's greatest coaches and athletes; their successes, their challenges, and the mental tools they employed to succeed. Golf is Not a Game of Perfect

1 stars (not perfect) - A big help to me in my game . The biggest help i got from another of rotellas books directly with putting and as a result i have never seen so many birdies in a round due directly to the said two books. 5 stars (Life improvement) - If you want to play better golf using your head then this book will do it for you. There is no way your golf woud not improve after applying Bob Rotella's techniques and advice. Better still, try applying these disciplines to your personal life outside of golf, I was inspired by the very first chapter to make changes to the way we live our personal life, setting targets, taking the knocks along with the successes and turning every opportunity into a positive. The Mental Game of Baseball - A Guide to Peak Performance

5 stars (let me think.......) - Oh yea, that's right. There is no need to think when you're up at the plate. The main thing is to relax and trust your trained body motions/strengths. This book separates the men from the boys. It helps skilled athletes develop to their full potential. In fact, it can even change the way you live your life. Great book for those hot summer nights. 5 stars (Superb book for just about anyone) - I bought this book because I am a baseball fan and my sons play ball as well. I am also an experienced musician who played professionally for some years. I found the book to be a "must read" for ANY performer (athlete, musician, dancer, etc) and a great book for anyone seeking personal success in any pursuit. If you like The Inner Game of Music, or A Soprano On Her Head, you need to get this book. 5 stars (Years of Application) - I read this book as a freshman in college while playing intercollegiate baseball. I can honestly say that the things I learned and applied to my life as a ballplayer have stuck with me over the years. I have since gone on to a top-rated graduate school and a great job. I learned to formulate goals, think positively, and maintain focus and intensity though practicing what this book describes. If you like baseball, but don't play, this book is great as you apply it's principles as I have done over the years. If you do play, it will help you focus on getting the most out of your abilities. ...

Positive Coaching- Building Character and Self-Esteem Through Sports

5 stars (Great for the thinking Coach) - I got this book just as I was about to coach a new teeball team and found its insight very helpful. Not a book about what drills to use but about motivation, handling people and protecting peoples love of the sport. More cerebral than I would expect in a coaching book. I used much of the material in my business career. Now I am starting his next book, "Shooting in the Dark". 5 stars (Turn your coaching career around like this book turned mine.) - I coach volleyball in grade school and junior high school, and I usually get the "B teams" (the leftovers who are not as talented as the girls on the "A" team.) Therefore, if there ever was a crying need for a book on how to coach these types of athletes, this book more than served its purpose for me. Actually, this book had a positive effect on me since it saved my coaching career. Don't get me wrong, though, this book will turn around any coach's career whether he has an A or a B team. I coached a group of 13 and 14 year old softball players the year that I purchased this book. At the beginning of the season, the only team these girls could beat was themselves; in fact, that was primarily the reason they were losing was the fact that they were beating themselves! Well, after one mediocre game, I sat the girls down on the bench and instead of reading them the riot act, I took to heart a suggestion by the author. I emphasized all the positive aspects of the game they played just to show these girls that they were capable of doing some positive things. I did this after each game from then on, win or lose. Wouldn't you know it, these same rag tag girls lost the last the last game of the season: the city championship game by one run (to a team that annihilated them by 12 runs in the first game of that season.) The Mental Edge

4 stars ( The Mental Edge ) - The book is technical and practical without being overly academic. It has an easy reading style with numerous practical examples. 4 stars (Easy to understand) - Steps easy to use and understand. After reading you will feel why you have failed yourself and how to make a change but you must put an effort into it or nothing will change unless you do something. small book and easy to bring around which was what i was looking for, reading in the car while waiting for somebody doing their errants. but i have not compared it with other books yet as i am still reading other books of the same type. So i should change this review after i read other books to let readers know which book have better advice. enjoy. 5 stars (Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!) - I wonder if the people who downgraded the book are even athletes! One says it's the best written of it's kind and still downgrades it...the other makes remarks that are so far off base it's funny! Granted, not everyone likes everything, yet there is a Top 10 reviewer and a bunch of professional and amateur athletes that have posted very favorable ratings. Zen Golf- Mastering the Mental Game

4 stars (It's All About Clarity, Confidence and Tempo) - A very quick read with lots of great tips. Especially good to clear the mind of unproductive thinking on the course and to play with clarity, confidence and purpose. The idea of Center of Gravity can save strokes right away. You'll understand the book even better when go to the range and experience how a good shot feels and then start hitting them one after another, and another... 5 stars (Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game) - Joseph Parent truly succeeds in integrating what he has learned from his Zen teachers and teachings with one's round of golf. His book is a must for all golfers, beginners and experts alike, duffers and long hitters. Points that Parent makes including breathing, putting beyond the cup, and not hitting "anyways shots" will truly improve one's round of golf. It will also impact a reader's attitude toward hitting the ball... from approach to follow-through, from driving to putting. Zen Golf is a great book and the unabridged book on CD is a must for travelers. The book has my highest recommendation. 4 stars (Just what I needed) - I recommend this book for the player that has plateaued and is frustrated on the course more than they are elated. I am having more fun on the course (and playing better) with the concepts learned in Zen Golf. When you complete the book, you may say to yourself- nice light read. It is only until you notice your changed behavior on the course that you have a new appreciation for the game and your ability. ...
