Math Success 2005 Large Box

1 stars (Not what I expected at all) - I was initially excited to obtain this collection of Math cd's after reading the positive reviews. Intended to brush up on my math aptitude and be used by a younger home school family member. I started with the Algebra I CD and to my dissatisfaction, the complete format of the program, designed to teach/explain the problems, confused me and I am a college graduate. The audio voice that would go through the problems would talk to fast and no pause button is available to stop at certain points of the speedy and quick lecture. (Not a big deal, but it bugged me) This was not at all what I expected and desired. I was hoping for a study guide that would go step by step and explain WHY and WHAT was being done. I actually have an OLD Algebra I CD from about 10 years ago that is much better than this 2005 edition. My advice to anyone considering buying this item as a study guide would be to look elsewhere and quite possibly stick with books. Sure this CD set provides math problems and solutions, but the explanation and understanding is totally inadequate. 3 stars (Good and Bad) - The good - so far I have been using this software a short time and I really like the practice section. The bad: Hey, I have a high powered PC - what is the deal with the choppy voice audio? And where were the QA testers? The little certificate after the subtraction practice has subtraction spelled wrong... subtarction. It prints it wrong on the screen and the printed output. Come on guys that is an easy one. :) Makes me wonder what else I will run in to that was missed. 5 stars (Math Success 2005) - This product has truly helped my son increase his scores on his school test and Pre-SAT scores. This product is absolutly a great. I am very pleased with what it can do to help my son in his grade. ...

WorldBook Encyclopedia 2005 2 CD Set

3 stars (Good Product.) - World Book 2005 is a good software product. The content is not as good as Encarta 2005 in my experience. It is just not as complete or encompassing. Of course, no comparison to EB 2005 textual content need be made as EB is obviously much more academic. That being said EB 2005 is horrible software and ruins the experience. WB 2005 is fast and well organized. Good for casual browsing as it has a random browsing feature which Encarta 2005 does not really have. Encarta 2005 has a Visual Browser but you have to already have an idea of a topic your interested in. I am glad I purchased this product. If I want further info on a topic, I can search it on Encarta as well. I really would not purchasee Encyclopedia Brittanica 2005 software. It is just way to slow. See my review of the Deluxe cd version of that product. I gave it a one star. ...

Mathcad 12 Single User

5 stars (Great for everyday computations) - Mathcad is the most convenient and flexible software for everyday computations on the market. The use of standard mathematical notations makes it very easy to follow the logic of calculations in a worksheet (as opposed to code based interface of other software packages). It also allows very fast learning - you can start doing your calculations with Mathcad almost immediately, even if you never used it before. Mathcad combines ability to do numerical calculations with a very intuitive way to work with symbolic mathematics. It is not as advanced as Matlab for programming and data based numerical computations, but is far superior if you want to work with mathematical functions and operators as opposed to just array of numbers. In this way Mathcad is similar to Maple, but its interface is much more intuitive. I found that in 90% of cases Mathcad was more convenient to use for me that Matlab or Maple. One drawback is that Mathcad has somewhat limited ability to customize the appearance of graphs. It is enough to make rough plots of data to analyze results, but it is generally not sufficient to make publication quality graphs. In this case I normally generate data sets with Mathcad and plot it with more specialized software such as Origin. Also, it is not always optimized for speed - large scale computations make take long time. But if you are in business of doing large scale computations, you are probable using custom developed code anyway. Overall Mathcad is excellent tool for most day-to-day calculations. 5 stars (Excellent!) - I like very much this software. MathCad gives you the chance to go into deep electrical engineering analisys without wasting time with mathematicals work-arounds ...

College Pro Mathematics

1 stars (College Pro Calculus is NOT for Win XP) - I bought this software because.... of course... here it comes.... I needed help with Calculus! My computer is top of the line, with absolutely NO conflicts... recent drivers... and all that good stuff! I CAN'T GET THIS PROGRAM TO WORK IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT! Maybe the tutor stuff is good (I wouldn't know), but only if you have a previus O.S. to Win XP will you be able to utilize it! This program sucks. 3 stars (A 3.8 material...) - CAVEAT: This is a CONCISE math software which was not intended to replace your textbooks or any other medium of information to study math but rather it was intended to be annexed to your collection of subject. The package brings 4CD's.. College Algebra(1), Pre-Calculus(2), Calculus(3) and Statistics(4) all of which are equilavent in format and display. College Algebra has many topics starting from rudiment algebra(factoring-polynomials-rules for exponents example a^b(c^d)= ac^b+d etc.. to functions-logs-exponential functions-synthetic division-conic sections(equations for geometry objects example Circle equation r^2=(x-a)^2 - (y-b)^2 ..etc now each CD explains its topics in page(s) with a few paragraphs you may run into some words that are highlighted in blue thats for you to click on it for it's terminology if your having a tough time comprehending a word(example..ax^n-1 'a' is the coefficient of the term ax^n-1). Some topics have step-by-step visual with audio and written explanation for the algorithm of a given expression, equation, radical..etc some if not all topics begin with a video to give you an idea of the subject in the 'real world' before you begin to study it and how you can apply it. Of course it has testing to put your comprehension of a given subject.. which each test questions ranges from x-z in questions so the number of questions depends on the topic. The sense of humor in this software is ok for it's educational function. I didn't encounter any problems installing ...

Human 3D Advanced Edition

4 stars (Good Program) - I had no problem installing this on Windows XP. I was impressed with the dvd portion of the software. I had no problems loading it onto my computer and it seems to be working well. Some error messages were in German; however the english version was right behind the German message. I am impressed with every aspect of the program thus far. I installed it on my laptop and it works fine. It has been very useful so far. 1 stars (Worst software I've ever used) - This software slowed down my computer and then didn't ever really work correctly. I wound up wiping it off my computer completely and throwing it away. Plus the visuals are not as good nor the interface nearly as intuitive as my old Softkey Bodyworks software. 1 stars (BAD SOFTWARE ) - I was completely disappointed with this software. I am a nursing major and desperately needed visuals to go along with my lectures and labs. This software is 1. the worst ever to load, 2. once loaded crashes the computer 3. not very functional as well. I am sorry to say I won't recommend this software to ANYONE. If anyone knows of a good A&P visual software, please post it!!!! Thanks! ...

Educator-s Choice Middle School Excelerator Grades 7-10

5 stars (A good value for the money) - My daughter enjoyed this program. She learned a lot of different words. The animations are clever and she enjoyed completing the spaceship to get Quixel home. This is a good program to build a foreign language vocabulary. 1 stars (Beware!) - I thought this would be good for my students until I tried it out myself. First I tried the Italian. When I discovered that they translated "potato chips" as "microchips", I was surprised. In telling time, they expressed the correct feminine plural but displayed the incorrect masculine singular "il due" for 2:00. Now for the French...I learned that "potato chips" were "eclats" as in "paint chips". Wrong chips both times folks - and good luck in a restaurant! I stopped there. It's a shame they never got a native speaker to check it before releasing this as an educational item. They did get native speakers to read aloud the vocab lists however. That's the one-star part. ...

Educator-s Choice Phonics Excelerator Jewel Case

4 stars (Quite good.) - This CDrom is quite good and I would have given it 5 stars if my toddler had been thrilled with it... which he wasn't. He was mildly interested. Perhaps at almost 3 years of age he is too young. On the other hand, as a teacher I was very impressed with this CDrom. It is very thorough and I have no doubt that if a child were to proceed through the games, winning stars for each level, their skills would be dramatically improved. It seemed entertaining to me, but I'm 43 - not the suggested 4 - 8 years old. 5 stars (Great product loads of fun!) - I bought this for my two boys ages 4 and 6. They can't sit still but do for this phonics software. They love the learning games and don't realize they are really learning. I purchased this to help them with their speech, one is severly delayed and the other not so much. The words and pronounciation are very very clear and easily understood. Simple directions and easy to follow. Starts off easy but gets harder for my older child. Best of all they are learning to read and practicing speech. Also has sight words game great for school age children and early readers. 5 stars (Very nice software, my son loves it) - For money, this 2 cds set software is really a nice deal. I had hard time to talk about phonics with my son who is 5 years old. He won't pay attention to learn the sound of letters. This software really caught his attention, he sits there for hours and practice. Those games are very cute and helpful. After two days play, he already made a lot of progress. It takes off some pressures from me. We love it! ...

Singing Coach

5 stars (Great Fun and Helpful Product) - I thought this was a really solid piece of software. It taught me alot of things that I needed to know about singing. I am not a professional and could not afford vocal lessons so this really was a HUGE help. The ability to sing a wide range of songs made it even more useful. Being able to see my pitch helped teach me what types of songs are good for me to sing. From what I have seen so far the music library is growing every week with better and better songs. If they keep adding songs like this there really is no limit what I can do with the software. 3 stars (Good for the beginner, but not much more.) - This program has quirky characters that teach you the basics of singing, such as breathing, posture and warm ups. Being able to see what pitch you are hitting helps a lot to strengthen the beginning singer. The reason I gave this only 3 stars, however, is that once you are done with the basics, the only thing that the program can give you is you pitch history while singing one of the songs. While this is a useful information, there isn't a wide enough varity in songs to make using this feature terribly fun and there aren't lessons to encourage you to work through the songs in a specific order. I was also quite disappointed with their online song library. This version comes with 4 free songs to down load from their song library, and I only found two that I was even willing to sing and have a vague liking for. None of my favorite songs were there. The lists of songs were quite small. They also, beyond the 4 free songs, want to charge what I think is an outragous charge per song. Get this if you are a rank beginner or need help with your pitch and are happy practicing on public domain folk songs. It's a fine piece of software if that's what you are looking for. 4 stars (Great Product) - bought this program for my daughter who loves watching American Idol and now all she wants to do is sing.
