You Can Heal Your Life

5 stars ( You Can Heal Your Life ) - This book is a book of positive thought and loving tools. I recommend this book to anyone who is tired of the negativity, pessimism and other things happening that have brought you down. I changed my life and I have this book to be thankful for as a guide to a better me Love you all G 1 stars (unhappy with the condition of the book!) - I wish it was disclosed that the pages of this book I purchased had earmarks and some pages were also waterlogged. I wouldn't have bought it. I could have just spent a couple of more dollars and bought the book new. 5 stars (Wonderful book! It saved my life!) - This book changed my life! There are no words for how much I love this book and how it changed my life and healed me. I learned so much and still apply what i've learned from this book since I read it ten years ago. Louise Hay is a brillant woman and I'm thankful to have discovered her and her books! EXCELLENT BOOK!!!!!!!!!! Life Changing!!!!!!!!!! ...

It is a fast, easy, and fun read, and will help to keep you sane! 5 stars (A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!) - By analyzing each agreement, and applying them to your life...you understand the power you have to change your reality. The Gift of Fear

5 stars (Routinely Recomend) - I have recommended this book many times. Knowledge is power and comfort. There is no hysteria created by reading this book as some reviewer who have not even read the book purport. Of course I already "knew" about many of Mr. De Becker's principles, as we all should. Its just important to be reminded or should I say "hit up side the head" with them. His examples do just that. I read the book 2 years ago when my husband hired Mr. De Becker's firm to work on a safe room for a client and YES... I have retained all the information. Imagine that. I just recommended the book to my son's girlfriend who is off to college and will keep recommending it. 4 stars (Part of the Story, But With Some Flaws) - This book does a very good job of helping people recognize behaviors and actions that may lead to trouble. Unfortunately, this book has some flaws and certainly could have been better. Mr. De Becker is clearly an expert at teaching about manipulation, grooming, and other patterns of behavior that often precede violence. He does a great service in explaining techniques used by antisocials and ways to counteract them by following our instincts. On the down side, the book contains a lot of anti-gun propaganda. The author tends to make unsubstantiated claims about how having a gun makes one less safe. He uses a couple of examples while ignoring the hundreds of cases annually where individuals with weapons have saved their own lives or those of others. Additionally, he tends to do a lot of self promotion for his company and name dropping of the ultra leftist elites of Hollywood. Although it may impress some readers that he has connections with Rosie O'Donnell and Barbara Streisand, it certainly does nothing to enhance his credibility. On the contrary, it makes him appear to be a liberal with an agenda. In this case, that is making people less self reliant for their own protection while promoting his company. That is unfortunate as it takes...

First Things First- To Live- to Love- to Learn- to Leave a Legacy

5 stars (A MUST Read) - Having read more than a dozen books on the subject of mission statements, goal setting and time management, and also having taught workshops on the subject myself, this is the one book that I find most useful. As some other reviewers point out, it may seem a little heavy in parts, but the details are well worth studying. As the authors emphasize, time management doesn't begin with managing time, it begins with finding our own individual purpose, establishing our mission, and setting our goals to achieve that mission. This is more than a "how to" book. It is a "why to" book. It has the ability to persuade people that they need to set written goals. In teaching young adults, I have found some that insist they don't need written goals and that they certainly don't need a mission statement. My response is to encourage them to read this book. I appreciate how persausive the authors are in encouraging the reader to find the "main thing" without getting trapped into becoming a success in just one small area rather than fulfilling four areas of the "quadrant," including physical, social, mental and spiritual. Moreover, they bring home the necessity of finding balance and staying balanced in the different roles we have in our lives. After you read this book, I recommend that you consider reading "The Power of Full Engagement" by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz, and "Finding Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. You won't be disappointed. 5 stars (A Revolutionary Resource!) - As someone who juggles many different responsibilities and a crowded calendar, I approached this title with high expectations. I was not disappointed! Covey here offers a revolutionary resource for time management. Rather than following the standard theme of how to do more in a given period of time, the author emphasizes the importance of setting priorities and planning ahead. His analogy of the clock and the compass is priceless in describing the two elements that shou...

Applied Behavior Analysis

5 stars (Emergence of a true science) - Reading this textbook one can appreciate the science in the science of human behavior. Not that the science of human behavior isn't well-served by the philosophy of behaviorism or by ongoing research within the area of the experimental analysis of behavior. But what I saw in this book is just how much progress has been made in applications and how fully the scientific method has been utilized. " Applied Behavior Analysis " is well organized both as chapters and within chapters, so I was able to absorb the material in small chunks. There is an excellent summary presented as a numbered list (with subject headings) at the end of each chapter. Coverage seems thorough. As an introductory text, the whole kitchen sink has not been included but at 600 pages, plenty has been included. As fitting for an introduction, there are many fine definitions. In addition to the subject index and name index, a 3-page key term index is provided. Since I find myself getting confused at times by some usages of basic terms such as "contingency", "establishing operation" and "stimulus control", the care in defintion in this textbook was helpful. Only one section of the book wasn't of immediate interest to me: the use of graphs and baseline design in Part 3 (Evaluation and Analysis of Behavior Change). I simply read the summaries of each chapter for that part, but had no trouble following all the other parts despite skipping over the Part 3 material. Many parts such as Stimulus Control, Self Management, and a succint presentation of Schedules of Reinforcement were stimulating to read. In the midst of the book, I felt the excitement of realizing how well this field is advancing. Discussion of ethics and a concern for clients' rights are spread in several places in the book, e.g. in the sections on time out and punishment. More, perhaps collected into a chapter of its own, wouldn't have hurt. A "doctrine of least restrictive alternative" is advised...

Never Eat Alone - And Other Secrets to Success- One Relationship at a Time

3 stars (A great read for everybody, and good advice for extroverts) - This was a very enjoyable read. The manner in which the author tells his story is very engaging and imparts some useful techniques to the reader. The type-A's out there may be able to use many of the techniques the author talks about. The rest of us, however, will be left wondering if all these things could have possible happened to one person. Truth be told I haven't read the last fifty pages. My dog decided he wanted to taste the author's work, and frankly, not being an extrovert, I did not feel compelled to pick up another copy for the last few chapters. 5 stars (Great book about breaking through the glass floor) - "Never Eat Alone" gives some excellent advice regarding developing relationships. Ferrazzi starts off by stating you really need to begin by finding your own passion and mission. Additionally, to build strong relationships you need to ask, "What can I offer?" rather than "What can I get?" Ferrazzi has an excellent writing style that is easy to understand and read. He gives some great suggestions regarding how to "ping" casual contacts and keeping in touch with people. Ferrazzi is a "follow up" maniac as he states you should continually follow up with people even if you don't hear back from them. I guess that depends on your viewpoint. There isn't much to like about this book. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to be able to develop their relationships. 5 out of 5 stars. 5 stars (Simply worth it) - I do not buy many books. I only buy the ones that I am interested in keeping. If I only want to read a book, I simply get it in the library. After reading a few reviews of "Never Eat Alone" I went to my local bookstore to have a closer look at it. Although I definitely liked the look of the book, my first reaction was "No, too expensive". And it is expensive! But then I sat down to read some passages. The more I read, the more interested I was becoming... You ...

Thinking for a Change- 11 Ways Highly Successful People Approach Life and Work

4 stars (Insightful!) - Anyone can apply the principles in John C. Maxwell's book, in any business, in any circumstance, in any stage of life. Great thinkers have an unlimited capacity to achieve, and Maxwell tells you how to become one. While books of this nature are typically geared toward entrepreneurs or those in leadership roles, we recommend this book to any person who is committed to ongoing personal development and living life with purpose. You will benefit from learning more about the different specific thinking skills that have an impact on your daily decisions. Maxwell teaches an unusual skill: how to make conscious choices that shape your thoughts, your actions and, ultimately, your success. Think about it. 5 stars (You're thinking right now...right?) - Several years ago, one of the best leaders I know, someone who managed to rise to the top of every organization he was ever in --including the one he currently works for, told me the secret to his success. "Think like a leader," he said. I've often meditated on his words. I've discovered that they are absolutely true... In his book, Maxwell explains how you can leverage the power of your thoughts to acheive unthinkable success: He gives you all the different ways leaders think and then shows you how to do it yourself. Just like my friend said: "Think like a leader." Order this book and find out how. 4 stars (You may not use all of it....) - You may not use ALL of the ideas in this book BUT if you find just one that helps you - then it is worth the investment. I believe each one of John Maxwell's types of thinking that are identified and briefly explained could be individual books all by themselves. The thing I appreciated most about "Thinking For a Change" was that it gave me "just enough" of what I was looking for. My suggestion is to read "Thinking.. " then pick the area you most need work on and delve deeper with other resources. Reading this book, gave me one key concept on strategic thinking wh...

The Power of Now- A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

5 stars (Magical...and advanced!!) - This book is not for everyone...it is very advanced even though there are reviews that say it's dull and repetitive...don't read with the mind...listen with the being! He is a great spiritual teacher.. One of the very best. I have read many spiritual books and feel that I'm half way there...I totally understood the book from beginning to end. It's very simple and clear...so effective..it is my bible. But don't get confused...Eckart Tolle is telling you all the things you already know, but your mind refuses to accept! Remember, you are NOT your mind, you never were. I'd like to recommend a wonderful bit of writing from Ken Wilber entitled 'From here to infinity in 3 pages...' I think that's the title. He really is advanced..very technical, but he explains also about being! Well done to a brilliant writer. He is not talking from the ego, but from his being...to your being...and it's real, when you let it be. Don't try to understand it, LIVE IT! 5 stars (Transformative Audio-Book) - I listened to the audio version of this book over a one week period, mostly as I was driving around. It had a profound effect on my life. I have practiced and taught meditation for many years, and a few times at retreats I have entered what are called ecstatic spiritual states. Listening to this recording brought me back to those states each time. If they were written the words he is speaking might or might not have that power. I have never read the typed version, so I don't know if it is the writing itself. But I cannot justify removing even one star from my rating of this item. There is simply nothing to fault it for when it delivers more than what one reasonably expects to get out of a book. The book will give you an experience of what he is talking about. What more do you want? Isn't the point of knowledge to gain access to the experience? So what if your mind can't eloquently explain advanced spiritual theories to others af...

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success- A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams based on C

5 stars (What can I say that hasn't already been said) - The fact that this little book has received 135 reviews and counting is because so many want others to share in this. Profound yet simple. Life changing. Contrary thinking to our unsuccessful ways. When Deepak Chopra tells us to quit wasting energy trying to convince others of our opinions, I will need some time to implement that into my life. I know it will come, because now when I am done trying to convince others of my point of view, to no avail, I think back to his advice, and realize I need to acquire it as a natural trait. Realizing each time how much time and energy I just wasted. This just scratches the surface. The other profound lesson that is changing my life is that the question we should be asking ourselves, is "How can I help, How can I serve" instead of "What's in it for me" Combining that with giving freely, in line with the laws of nature, is giving me a new foundation for forming a company I am working on. It completely shifted my focus to helping, instead of demanding. I know that by serving freely the interests of my patrons, I will receive like kind in return. Not because I require it, but rather because that is the way it flows; even to the point of concentrating my efforts now on helping the maximum amount of people, rather than making them customers. All of this is predicated on the necessity to meditate to get in touch with your inner... as he calls it, the embryo of your God self. Which is a part of the infinite potentiality, the essential energy of all things. In so doing, making the unmanifest, into the manifest. Some say that all of mankind's problems can be reduced to his inability to sit still, quietly, for 15 minutes. Deepak Chopra and Dr Wayne Dyer co-authored a book. I thank Dr Wayne Dyer for showing me how to meditate by simply lying down or sitting, and gently letting all thoughts leave my mind. Each thought is tied to an emotion. When all thoughts finally leave, a pro...

Boundaries

5 stars ( Boundaries ) - This is the most life-changing book I have ever read (second the Bible)! I think every high school graduate should be required to read it! The authors describe in great detail what boundaries are, and who needs them. I experience a lot of guilt when I want to say no to someone's request. I feel that I am letting them down, no matter what the request is. The authors use scripture to help you determine what are appropriate things to say no to, and why you should not feel guilty. Even Jesus, the most giving person who ever lived, had boundaries! This book does not give excuses to get out of your responsibilities, but helps you to see what are unhealthy situations to avoid, and how to get out of them. It even gives some examples for parenting so you children will learn boundaries. I am grateful to have read this book, and find myself re-reading it often. 4 stars (inspiring) - I haven't completed the entire book as of yet but what I have read is very helpful and inspiring. For anyone who lacks confidence, this book is a God send. 5 stars (Extraordinary!) - The principles in Boundaries have revolutionalized my life. Well worth the time and money. It's way beyond "a good read"; it's extremely practical. I wish I'd read it years ago. I WILL be reading it at least once a year from now until I die. It's THAT good. ...

Pronoia Is the Antidote for Paranoia- How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings

5 stars (Pronoia) - Amazing. I was just thinking the same thoughts! Actually quite a bit of it makes a lot of sense. There is a bit of "weirdness' to it, but since I'm a bit weird myself, I kind of like it. I'm recommending it to a few select friends, folks that are as "strange and wonderful" as I am. 5 stars (Pronoia and me) - Every time I pick up this book and start to read, my mood changes. I can be a gloomy guss at times and these wise words pull me right out of the shadows. I begin to feel lighter and less worried about the state of the world. I feel hope and maybe even start to hum a ditty. That's enough for me to recommend this book to you. Love to you all, tim 5 stars (Give Me More) - This is the perfect book to give as a gift, to your friends, enemies, family, and don't forget yourself. Full of stuff to make you feel good to be you now as you read the contemporary anecdotes that are consistently smart and constantly full of surprises. Of course, anyone who knows Rob Brezsny's work doesn't need to be convinced at all. Rob Brezsny, if you're reading this, I love you. Thank you for being born. ...

Influence- The Psychology of Persuasion

5 stars (Most Useful Book You Will Ever Read) - I loved this book, it teaches you that getting what you want isn't always bad and how you can make other peole happy to help you out. The book has a good mix of interesting anecdotes mixed in with scientific fact. I think it's great for anyone who is tired of getting pushed around. 5 stars (It is so simple) - Once you understand the various systems and programs that make us up, the whole ordeal of being human becomes so much easier. This book can take you a long way towards that goal. 5 stars (A well researched study on human behavior) - I have long been a student of human behavior. It fascinates me. Naturally, I found this book to be fascinating as well. The book is well researched and does more than present one person's opinion. It summarizes actual reserach results from many, many studies that demonstrate the behaviors under discussion. Reciprocity? Consistency? These are some of the concepts discussed and are immediately applicable both as a tool of influence as well as an understanding of our own behaviors and how to protect ourselves from "forced" behaviors that we are programmed to do even when we don't want to. Yes, we are programmed to perform certain behaviors, and when we don't, we suffer socially. Naturally, this provides a means for some people to take advantage of us. This book gives us an understanding of the behavior and therefore a reasonable defense. So, you don't believe we have automatic programmed responses? Then explain how the Chinese so effectively pursuaded American P.O.W.'s to defend communism during the Korean War. Then explain how Moonies got so many people to contribute to their religion when people just didn't want to. And explain why the effectiveness of that technique waned over time. Can't? Cialdini can. And convincingly. ...

Fierce Conversations- Achieving Success at Work - in Life- One Conversation at a Time

5 stars (Great Practical Tools) - If you've ever wondered about how to have a single conversation that will make a difference, this book will provide the guidance for that conversation. Scott is quite skilled at creating a simple approach to difficult situations. One caution that I would offer is that this book is not a magic silver bullet. You have to do some work and actually call upon some courage on your own. The tools that this book provides is only have the battle. That which you bring will provide the missing link. There is great value here. This book is truly a gift that you will find valuable. I recommend it highly. 5 stars (Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work and in Life One Conversation at a Time) - This is a worthwhile book for personal and leadership development. It contains practical tools such as: 1) The Decision Tree for delegation and professional development 2) A confrontation model 3) Questions for one-to-ones (fuel for discussion with colleagues and direct reports) 4) A Leader's Stump Speech: Where am I going? Why am I going there? Who is going with me? How will I get there? 5) The concept of our "Emotional Wake" - worth reading and pondering about. "An emotional wake is what you remember after I'm gone. The aftermath, aftertaste, or afterglow." 6) The image of the crucible to remind us that our job is "simply to hold, so that whatever needs to be said, what needs to be heard, can safely be said and heard." And much more.... There are also many fresh metaphors -- one is tempted to keep highlighting the book. Rich quotations, references to books, music, poetry.... good examples and stories. I also appreciated the "Assignments" and Brief Summaries at the end of each chapter. 5 stars (Excellent Resource) - I bought the book on CD, listened to it, and immediately listened to it a second time. It contains invaluable information for self-help, business and/or leadership development. Practical examples that stres...

Emotional Intelligence - Why It Can Matter More Than IQ

5 stars (Neurology of emotions) - This book does an excellent job of explaining how the brain is overpowered by emotions. You also learn that if you are in an extreme state of emotional arousal, your rational ability is impaired. To deal with emotions, I strongly recommend Rosalene Glickman's book, Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self and the Optimal thinking emotional mastery wallet cards. In the Optimal thinking resources, you receive a clear explanation of each emotion, why they are caused and how to be deal with each troublesome emotion. You are provided with questions to understand and resolve them. Both of these books are excellent. 4 stars (Good overview of how emotions affect - and sometimes rule - our lives) - I suppose I was first interested in this book, which has been around quite some time now, by the often quoted assertion that emotional intelligence - EQ - is now more important to career development and job performance than IQ. What I found was a good explanation of how humans are affected and sometimes governed by their emotions. The book is one of an interesting genre - popular social science, a bit like the work of Malcolm Gladwell - and I must admit it had me gripped to start with. By the end of the book, I was a bit over it, because it tends to look at how EQ can be boosted in kids and obviously being a fully-grown adult I was interested to know how I could boost my own EQ and in doing so boost my chances of early promotion, unfathomed success and early retirement. The book is pretty good at explaining the process of emotional reactions and I love the phrase "emotional hijacking" - when our emotions take over. I suppose the real value in this book is understanding as a whole how your brain works and what exactly your emotions are. If this has contributed anything to my quality of life, it is probably the realisation of how emotions follow patterns and how simple facial gestures, such as rolling your eyes, can trigger an adverse r...

Dynamic Laws of Prosperity

5 stars (Explosive) - This book has helped me tremendously ! Have you ever felt" stuck in a rut" in your life.Stuck financially, job wise just your whole outlook on life? Well this book will literaly blow you out of that rut and set you on a whole new path.Just be ready to commit some time and positive energy and your on your way ! 5 stars (A dynamic life changing read) - One of the most impressive things about this book is that it hits home in such a way that it makes you believe and want to believe more. You want to be prosperous, you want to make life changing decision. It is written in a way that is easy reading and I found reading a chapter a day for my first read worked well. Then I went back and read a chapter and set to work on issues involved in that chapter. I have and still recommend this book to everyone, to everyone who has a dream, and just needs that extra push in the right direction. It is a wonderful spiritual and powerful book. 5 stars (Classically dynamic) - Catherine Ponder, a Unity minister, is one of the pioneers of today's "create your own reality" phenomenon. This book is one of the first I read in this genre, way back in the early 70's. The principles are still true today and provide a solid foundation for prosperous living. Anecdotal, experiential and inspirational. Open the book at random for a quick reminder of who you are and your connection to the universal Divine principles. ...

The Likeability Factor - How to Boost Your L-Factor and Achieve Your Life-s Dreams

5 stars (An absolut MUST-READ!) - The LikeAbility philosophy, as Tim cleary explains, is much needed in our world. Tim's research is thorough and has depth. The concept is simple to grasp, yet challenging to implement in our daily lives. His practical advice and exercises are very valuable and easy to follow. Congratulations to an inspiring and excellent book, Tim. 4 stars (A Great Message ) - This kind of message may seem obvious but it is amazing how important it is to be likeable! It's not always easy and I do think it takes practise, especially in business. Often we are so busy to get all the work done that we can forget to take time to really be nice - especially when situations are chaotic. Tim is on the right track and I look forward to his next book. 3 stars (Somewhat Interesting) - Sanders' book is short, and interesting - up to a point. He briefly cites evidence that being likeable (having an interest in others, listening to them, etc.) is linked to good health, improved job retention, overall success, better quality time with a physician, greater liklihood of getting elected, and significantly reduced chance of divorce. Also, "nice" physicians are less likely to be sued, and more likely to win if they are. All useful points. But what about Leo Durocher's "Nice guys finish last" philosophy? I guess that's another book. ...

The Problem of Pain

5 stars (A life altering book) - I first listened to this book in audio form on a long drive, so heard the entire text in one session. It really was an inspiring experience. I actually listened to it a second time on the return trip. Lewis' gift for verbalizing complex logical and moral issues amazed and inspired me. As one reviewer said, Lewis is the "ideal persuader for the ... good man who would like to be a Christian but finds his intellect getting in the way." His discussions are logical, yet human. A masterful book. 3 stars (Good stuff, except for the Arminian slant) - C.S. Lewis makes many insightful points, but his Arminian (vs. Calvinistic) views distort his presentation at times. For example, he suggests that it isn't God's "fault" that pain and suffering entered the world, i.e. God's sovereign will was thwarted by man. When of course Calvinists like myself argue that it's the Biblical view that our all powerful and sovereign God foreordains all things as the prophet Isaiah says. But overall, it was a worthwhile read. 5 stars (Thought Provoking Jack Lewis) - I'm a blogger. Blogging makes me read. It makes me turn off the television and read. This is very good. What I have been reading lately is C. S. Lewis. Particularly, I've been re-reading The Chronicles of Narnia. After reading through The Magician's Nephew and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I decided to shift gears and read one of Lewis's theological works before resuming the Chronicles. All I can say is, "Wow!" The Problem of Pain is not what I expected. I'm not sure what it was that I did expect. Perhaps something more along the line of a good evangelical book - you know, shallow, but with lots of Bible verses. Pain is exactly the opposite. Deep and with very little use of prooftexting. How the Church of the twenty-first century needs more minds like C. S. Lewis! We have been drowning in the fluff of "make-me-feel-good-like-Jabez-bless-me-bless-me" Christian publishing for years. The Money Book for the Young- Fabulous - Broke

5 stars (Excellent Book!) - Have briefly watched Suze Orman's TV show several times, and couldn't stand it. This book, however, is outstanding. She has compiled a wealth of information (including various important government loan program details) for those just starting out after college. I wish it had been available for me just after I graduated! Topics included are an explanation of one's FICO score and what to do about it, strategies upon beginning a job, buying a car, buying a home, retirement funds, and handling student loan repayments. I think the only thing Suze missed was how to get the MOST reliable new or used car - look in Consumer Reports. (She did, however, encourage getting a used car certified by the manufacturer - excellent advice.) Am so impressed I'm going to find one of her other books that targets people in my life-stage 5 stars (A must have for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke) - Suze Orman is spectacular. She doesn't sugarcoat things and she puts it all out there for us young folk. She covers all the topics that affect those fresh out of college. Everything from handling student loan and credit card debt to buying your first house and handling investments. And the online tools that you get access to when you purchase the book are great help as well. there's even a message board where you can get real feedback from Suze and her assistants. This is definitely a must read for all young people! 2 stars (Good advice, I guess....) - Suze Ormon's advice is important to pay attention to, but in my opinion it's possible to get elswhere in a better package. If you like Suze's presentation, fine, but she just seems overly chirpy to me.
