Quicken Deluxe 2006 Mac

4 stars (Another small set of improvements) - Of late I have been skipping years between Mac Quicken upgrades, and even doing that, find relatively little changed each time. Perhaps that is why Intuit is happy to force stragglers forward by restricting online banking features to recent releases (although as software developer myself, I do understand the support and maintenance arguments as well). The 2006 release continues in this vein, but I do feel it was a worthwhile investment on its own merits. My credit union has paid the "Mac tax" Intuit requires in order for their online banking features to interoperate with Quicken, so I am lucky enough to be able to use them. And they work very well. The one-step-update and downloaded transaction windows look nicer and are more responsive compared to the 2004 version, and have some useful new features. For example, the downloaded transactions window's dropdown menu for choosing an online account now provides a visual indication of which accounts contain new transactions. This saves a lot of time in conjunction with one-step updates. The new flexibility in scheduling calendar-based transactions is useful too. There were things (like my direct-deposit paychecks) which previously couldn't automatically be assigned the right dates. Now they can, and it was easy to fix them. I'm less impressed with the much hyped "backup to .Mac" feature, however. It's perhaps helpful for people who lack a backup strategy for all their important documents (such as the Backup program which comes with .Mac), but it pales by comparison with what it could and should be: Quicken should take advantage of the Sync Services offered by Tiger and .Mac to let you synchronize your Quicken accounts between multiple computers. I should not have to care whether I'm on my PowerBook at work or my PowerMac at home; transactions I enter in either place should appear on the other. Instead, I can only run Quicken at home and sync with Pocket Quicken on my Treo. ...

5 stars (Quicken Premier H&B 2006) - I have updated from Quicken Premier 2005. I am very please with the resoults, if I had known what was in this program I would have updated earlier. Quicken Premier H&B has many new ideas. 1 stars (Not very useful for business.) - I purchased this version for my home business. I needed to print invoices and track inventory. Also I liked the check printing feature. They failed to mention that you will need to order "Special" checks from them. The invoicing feature is very lacking in features and customability. You can't add shipping charges without making it a "Product". It did mention if you want ALL of the custom features, you need to order their Top Of The Line Quicken business program. Half of the toolbar seems dedicated to advertising products that you will need to make the program work the way you wanted it to work in the first place. If you are looking to buy this product, look on eBay, that's where my version will be tonight. 1 stars (Warning: Lack of QIF Support should be Known) - with the lack of .QIF support, this version of Quicken is a shell of the prior versions. 1 stars (Automated Payroll Processing Is Now an Add-on Charge) - As the treasurer for a church with six employees, I have used QuickBooks for the accounting and payroll for the church for more than a decade. I just upgraded the software used by the church to QuickBooks Basic 2005 this year and found that we can not use QuickBooks to compute the payroll tax withholdings unless we subscribe to one of Intuit's payroll services. This is a change in the way payroll is handled by the software from previous additions of QuickBooks Basic. This additional subscription makes the cost of upgrading to QuickBooks Basic 2005 more than triple the published software price (...) because the least expensive of the subscriptions is $199 per year. In response, I have developed a an Excel spreadsheet that can do the computations for our organization and I will not be subscribing to Intuit's payroll service. The rest of the package seems to work as intended. 5 stars (Context is everything) - I used QuickBooks, happily, for years -- until they stopped supporting tax tables for the Mac, about 1999. They migrated us to Aatrix TopPay -- a nightmare -- but at the time, the only company making payroll software for the Mac. I stayed with them, though their UI was ghastly, forms didn't work, customer support poor -- feeling it was better than going to a PC. Finally this year, my experience with their version 15 was so terrible that I gave up entirely -- bought QuickBooks -- and set it up on my PC. What ease of use! What intuitive, easy navigation! What joy! It took me very little time to set up my company, calculate payroll, and be on my way. QuickBooks Premier Professional Services Edition 2005

1 stars (Quickbooks should be Re-named Quick-Scams) - The company is a huge scam operation. Here's how they did it to me: they charge you $400 for their Professional Sevices version. What they don't tell you on the packaging, is that if you have any problem whatsover with their product, even if it is a glitch in their system, they will charge you $50 just to call them and ask for it. So the first time I called to find out why their invoice feature was broken, printing a total line on pages where you hadn't reached the total yet, and printing the first pages "Invoice" title repeatedly on subsequent pages where it looked weird, they would not even talk to me unless I paid $50 or bought a more expensive 90-day plan from them. And not only do they hide it from their packaging, if you go on the website they claim that they will talk to you if it is a problem with their product, but when you call you find out that was a lie because they refuse to talk unless you pony up. Shame on them. Buy a different product. The main reason I bought it was for the timing feature. In my business, I need to bill by time, and my Quickbooks 2002 always crashed when I used the timing feature. I was hesitant to try Quickbooks again, but with a money-back guarantee from the company decided to give this version a try. I find this product to be great. It hasn't crashed on me once, and is much easier to move around from the single timing feature, to weekly time sheets, to preparing invoices. I haven't attempted to do an invoice in Word yet. QuickBooks Simple Start Edition

4 stars (Helps the micro small business get out of the shoe box) - I am a CPA who has advised clients with small businesses to use this product to organize income and expenses. This is a very stripped down version of the Quickbooks line, but it is built to get those micro businesses out of the shoebox and rag-tag spreadsheets, and into a structured, logical format. I would highly recommend Simple Start for the following: --Small Schedule C, owner-operated businesses with no employees; --Small services businesses, and; --Those who may have an apartment building or two. It's help feature when deciding how to categorize expenses is good. Some things are a little difficult to get the hang of (such as how to enter invoices, etc.) but it does a lot and is worth the price if you need to organize your small business finances. 4 stars (Very simple but very limited) - This is as advertised. Super simple to get started with accounting for a very basic business. It took about 5-10 minutes to load, walked me through half a dozen basic questions, and was ready to start taking bank account entries and categorize them. I was also able to set up a business credit card to track expenses there and enter things very easily. The simplicity however comes with a real lack of flexibility for anything more involved. Within the first 30 mintues I was already noticing features missing that I would like, and found myself needing to upgrade to a more complete version of Quickbooks. For instance, expenses are only single level -- you can't have subcategories for expenses. Credit card entries can't have memo fields to remind you what the expense was (checks can however). Etc. QuickBooks Premier Contractor Edition 2005

5 stars (Great Program/Great Learning Curve) - I have a contracting business building new residential houses and I am not an accountant by anymeans. This program is really geared to the contractor that has alot of customers, as a home builder I only have 1 customer, the person that buys my house, and I don't invoice anybody, I'm the one always getting invoiced, so for this program to work for me, I had to fool it in a few places. My house's have become my customers in the eyes of the program. I bought this program last March (2005). This program has a large learning curve. The book that comes with the program is marginally helpful, the Quicken BB was more helpful. Early after I got the program I devoted one entire weekend to learn it and by Sunday nite I had a good grasp of the program. It was frustrating but well worth while. Now that I know this program it is fantastic. This program allows you to do many things, it cuts the data almost any way you want to look at it. It's one good program. 5 stars (Thorough accounting) - This is a multifaceted program that out does itself! Takes a while to get to know it, but once you get rollin' you find out that it is very powerful indeed. I recommend it to any small business owner. 4 stars (Accounting for Small Business) - We upgraded to QB Premier from QB Pro to take advantage of the multiple pricing by amount - not percentage and it works well. However, there are still items that need consideration. For mail and phone orders, credit cards now require CVV codes and there is no place on the payment screen to include. I also believe that front end and back end info should be integrated. We would like to be able to use QB to send info to customers who have purchased a certain products rather than having to export to another program. ...

Quicken Basic 2006

5 stars (Pleasantly Pleased) - Previously I used Microsoft Money 2000 and attempted to switch over to Money 2005 but what a nightmare!!!! I uninstalled Money 2005 and swore off money programs all together. However, I recently bought a PDA and wanted to use it to track my finances. I read the reviews and there are a few items that I would encourage you to look at if you are going to buy this product: 1. Is your bank on the list of 2000+ banks 2. Does your bank charge to download Quicken files One of my banks that I have savings in is not on the list but this is no big deal as it is a savings account that I don't touch. And my primary bank does not charge to download Quicken files. If your good with this than this is an awesome program. Easy to use, well set up, only as many bells and whistles as you want to use but no so confusing that it negates it basic purpose. My faith has been restored in money programs. Furthermore, I also purchased the Pocket Quicken, which was just as easy to install and use. I highly recommend these programs. 5 stars (Quicken Basic 2005) - Quicken is a very easy product to use. It is a great accounting product. I highly recommend it. 4 stars (Great new features, but I miss the QuickTabs from version '99) - I upgraded from Quicken '99 because I was forced to when I bought a new computer (my '99 software came bundled with my old computer.) I was perfectly happy with the seven-year-old version, but I've found a lot of impressive new features in version 2006. The most exciting is the abilitly to scan a picture of a receipt or other document and attach it to a register transaction. I haven't had the time to learn all the new features, but it is user friendly enough to start using right out of the box if you are familiar with older Quicken versions. QuickBooks Premier Non-Profit Edition 2005

4 stars (Great but difficult) - Quickbooks for Nonprofit does a lot of great things. Just what we needed. However, it was extremely difficult to get started with. We can understand why QuickBooks markets their software support as another profit center - they know you will be calling them for help! 4 stars (Nonprofit edition isn't really different.) - I had the, uhm, privilege of setting this up for a nonprofit organization. QuickBooks Premier Non-Profit Edition 2005 was chosen because everyone collectively went, "We need accounting software. And gasp! Quickbooks is catering to nonprofits! And we're a nonprofit! So this has got to be great!" However, it's all the same with an extra name on it. Therefore I recommend taking the the reviews of QuickBooks Premier 2005 (regular edition) into consideration for your purchasing decision. The reviews are bad but apparently they're bad for every single accounting software product on Amazon (really, you'll see). It is very, very smart marketing on Intuit's part to make such specialized niche versions of their software. They don't seem to have any competitors in "nonprofit accounting" at the office stores. They must be barnstorming marketshare coming up with specialized versions. I don't know the Quickbooks software well enough to give you an accurate rating. I gave it four stars. I was tempted to give it three, a fair mediocre rating... Quickbooks was not easy or wonderful, or pleasant. But does it do its job? Yes. I think Quickbooks or something like it is necessary, and will pay off big time in the long run. It comes with (a rather good, included) how-to book. If you have the money, go to Intuit's website and look up a QuickBooks Consultant in your area... I'd imagine this genuinely valuable. Kudos to Intuit for honoring their rebate. QuickBooks Pro 2005 for Mac

5 stars (QuickBooks Pro 2005 minimizes chaos) - Qbks really made my bookkeeping easy. The step-by-step set up is easy to follow. After setting things up I found it really easy to stay on top of my bookkeeping. 3 stars (Doesn't completely suck) - I started a new business and bought Quickbooks, like I was told too. While it isn't extremely intuitive and lacks some functionality, it doesn't completely bite either. Note, I don't use payroll and have a simple business. I bought Simple Start for Windows since Mac users complain about the gap in features, and that is true, but the Windows version isn't different at any essential level - it is just as confusing and difficult to customize, convert to Excel , etc; as the Mac version. I will probably not upgrade due to the lack of upgrades, but this is still the best accounting program for Mac I found. I'm guessing all of these programs suck (stupid accounting). 5 stars (QB Pro 2005 for Mac is a worthwhile purchase) - I am doing bookkeeping and budgetting as well as analysis of past records for a nonprofit PTSA. Quickbooks has been super-helpful in sorting things out. It translated all of the old PC files from QB Pro for PC flawlessly. We were up and running in minutes. By the way, you can download a one month trial version from the Intuit website and give it a try before you purchase. It is a fully functioning copy of the software. I did that while I waited for delivery of the software from Amazon, so there was no need to wait for the copy in the mail. Super good value, esp. if you can take advantage of the rebate. ...

QuickBooks Pro 2005 5-USER

5 stars (Easy to use for a small business!) - For a small business this is an easy to use cost efficient program that allows one to track expenses, payroll and allow for integration of computerized timesheets. 1 stars (Software OK - Hostile Atitude Toward Customers) - I've used QuickBooks for 11 or 12 years. I can't wait until there is a reasonable alternative that will allow me to import my QuickBooks data and stop using QuickBooks. The QuickBooks software is generally user friendly and does a reasonably good job of simplifying small business accounting transactions. However, Intuit has a very poor attitude toward its customers as demonstrated by their business practices. With every upgrade, they force the customer to buy the next version by making it impossible to productively use the old software. They make a lot of money on upgrades. With every new version, they extract more money out of the customer through other means as well. For example, QuickBooks originally allowed manual payroll accounting, but with every new release it became more difficult to do manual payroll. Now, there is NO manual payroll accounting. There are instead a few options for their payroll accounting services, which start at $200 per year for a company with one employee. That cost has increased steadily, so check for the actual cost to process payroll. The charge seems steep for downloading publicly available payroll tax tables. Intuit obviously sees their customers as captives and they are doing everything they can to squeeze money out of them. Your accounting data in the proprietary QuickBooks data format is used to keep you upgrading as they shake you down for more money each year. Remember when you'd purchase software? Quicken 2006 Mac

1 stars (Nothing New - Don't "updgrade") - Quicken Mac 2006 is not much of an upgrade. Compared to the 2004 version, the only change I can see is the color on some charts and some very minor changes. Quicken for PC is an excellent program. Quicken for Mac is mediocre. If you don't have any finance software and have a Mac, Quicken might still be your best bet. But don't pay for an upgrade if you have an earlier version - you'll get zero for your dollar. (I will give Quicken credit for backing their lame product with a money back guarantee ... and I will take them up on their offer.) I'd be happy to pay $99 for a Quicken Mac comparable to the PC version, but this isn't it. 1 stars (Full of bugs) - I've been using Quicken for more than 10 years. I started as a Windows user, and transferred to Quicken for Mac (QM) when I switched to the Mac in 2001. Sadly, QM appears to be the red-headed stepchild in the Intuit family. QM is consistently buggy. The user interface is dated (even moreso when compared with a current version of Quicken for Windows). My current issue with QM is that I cannot switch between Quicken data files without it crashing. I have two separate data files: one for my personal finances (which has my personal bank account, my credit cards, my retirement accounts, and a couple of individual stocks) and one for my household finances (which has a joint chequing account and credit cards). Switching between the two data files is guaranteed to crash QM. I'm using the latest version of OS X, and I'm using the latest patch for QM. Furthermore, QM displays several screen-painting issues that make it unreadable. Sometimes hiding the application fixes the issue, but oftentimes I have to quit QM and start it back up again. I'm beginning to feel like I'm using a Windows machine all over again. Please, Intuit, give QM some attention. It seems unlikely that they will, though; QM has been buggy for a few releases now, and they have barely bothere...
