The drawings are great and they really help with perspectives and rendering. 4 stars (Excellent but abit outdated) - The auther is fantastic, the book is well written otherwise he wouldn't have got the 4 stars, the book covers the subject from A to Z literally speaking, a must have, BUT it is too much outdated. 4 stars (This is a great book for teaching) - Interior Design Illustrated is a pictoral book with easily understood text. This book gives the reader a chance to learn the basics of Interior Design. I recommend this book for any Interior Design school to be used in their course. ...

A History of Interior Design

5 stars (The Wonderful Mr. Pile) - History of Interior Design is great. I study interior design and, without John Pile's books, this wide-ranging subject would have been far more difficult. Studying the subject "history of interior design" would have been such a struggle for me without having this book at my side. I just couldn't find all I needed on the internet. Apart from the high quality paper and excellent images, John Pile has a writing style that gets his point across very clearly. That makes for rapid reading and faster absorption of information. ...

The Encyclopedia of Window Fashions

4 stars (Encyclopedia of Window Fashions) - This book has great ideas and beautiful pictures and drawings. It is, however a little outdated in my opinion. Would like to see a revised edition by this author with more up to date styles. 5 stars (EASY TO GRASP!) - I often see beautiful decorating books but as soon as i put it down I realize I did not absorb anything No so with this book!One page has tie backs One page has cornices. Professional Practice for Interior Designers- 3rd Edition

5 stars (Get It!) - This book reads like a friend whispering all the good advice and secrets of the interior design business in your ear. I wish my Professional Practices class had used this text. It's a lot of information but Christine Piotrowski truly takes you by the hand and lets you know what you need to prepare for in a budding interior design business as well as how the interior design business is done in general. I will be referencing this book again and again. Color in Interior Design

5 stars (The Basics of Color Design) - I found this book to be extremely useful in learning the principles behind choosing color schemes. As with anything, application and practice will fine tune one's abilities, but C.i.I.D. proved to be an excellent resource guide. Highly recommended! 4 stars (Extremely useful.) - I'm a do-it-yourself homeowner, not a professional, but I found this book to be a great resource as I plan out my house. "Scientific" enough to let me understand why color combinations work as they do (and help me design my own schemes) while still completely clear to the lay person. 4 stars (Classic Prinicples) - This book is a must for anyone wishing to understand classic prinicples of design. It gives details unavailable in many standard works. I had an earlier edition while in university and when I lost it after a move, was delighted to be able to find another copy of this valuable resource. It was like Christmas to have it once again in my possession. 5 stars (Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!) - As an instructor of Interior Design, I cannot praise this book enough....My students as well as fellow instructors find it an invaluable tool, not only in teaching beginning level courses, but also as a great reference manual after the student graduates....Several of us still have well-worn copies in our offices...Buy this book, you won't be dissapointed! 5 stars (Excellent! Interiors- text with Design CD-ROM

4 stars (For the price a good book) - I bought the book form my interior design class. It is an older version and missing a few pages that the new version has, but I have been suprised at how similar the books are. I am glad I didn't pay the $80 for the new one. 5 stars (Thorough and Educational) - Interiors is a complete review of the interior design process. It covers lighting, furniture, fabric, wall treatments, and more. What makes this book so versatile is it's flexibility in being able to be used by someone interested in the profession, as well as those just casually interested in design. If you're building a new home, redecorating your current home, or interested in exploring the profession this book will prove incredibly helpful. It will give you the vocabulary and the how-to for going about a number of design problems. I would actually recommend the newer addition (which is more up-to-date), but can't write the review in that space yet. 5 stars (Interiors:An Introduction) - We are using this book in the interior design class. Perspective for Interior Designers

5 stars (Friendly) - I really like the book!... The content of this book it's easy to understand. 4 stars (Very Helpful) - This is a great book to have. Easy reading, nice illustrations, great information. 5 stars (Worth every penny! A must have for anyone who renders) - This book takes perspective to another level. I have been taught perspective before with 1, 2, and/ or 3 vanishing points, so I thought that I knew what I was doing. But sometimes I just had to eyeball some of the perspective in my drawings, because objects would look too distorted. This book showed me what I was doing (and taught at art school) that was acceptable but not perfect. Within the first few pages, I easily learned the correct rules to doing perspective from a floor plan at any point of view that I choose. I am a graphic designer for retail interiors and " Perspective for Interior Designers " has made my life so much easier. It's very easy to understand and follow...a must have! ...

5 stars (WONDERFUL!) - whoever gives this a so-so review is downright silly. This book is absolutely wonderful! for people who know nothing about design as well as design students. There are loads of wonderful ideas. 5 stars (Let's Ask Michael : 100 Practical Solutions for Interior Des) - An interior designer and the host of Home and Garden Television's Designing for the Sexes, Payne answers questions he has received as a result of the design guidance he gives on his show. Although the show's premise is to get couples to compromise on their design preferences to create mutually satisfying room d?#cor, here he primarily solves individual design challenges. Payne answers questions concerning every room of the house-bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms, kitchens, hallways, home offices, guest rooms, and libraries-and he illustrates his advice with color photographs. His practical, down-to-earth approach to design recommends this book for public libraries of any size. 5 stars (MIchael Answers With Inspiring Decorating Ideas) - Our TV fav host and ID does a neat thing: he answers emails and the publishes them with his answers and graphics. The show is really Michael's wonderful personality and design flexibility. Here it shows in advice on all rooms from kitchen to bath to living room to bedroom to dining room to family room and all others. His adept touch is in them all, such as this suggestion in regards to breathing new life into stale furniture on a tight budget: "have it professionally painted." It's answers like this that endure this guy to us in HGTV's audience. The index here is critical, since it cross-sections his answers not just by room, but by style, by topic e.g. wall color, by furniture piece, etc. 100 of them with good color shots and sketches and Michael. Only thing wish he'd included was a recommended bibliography for us who would like to go deeper. ...

3 stars (Broad Outlook on Interior Products) - This book is a good reference for anyone who is currently designing or building a luxury home, but for a general education on construction interiors, this is not the book. There are many references to the latest products, which include both color and feature description that will be quickly outdated. Most of the discussion centers around materials that would be used in an affluent home rather than your typical family residence, and product descriptions focus on the unique product, not the typical. Dimensions for comfortable clearance and layout hints are useful for residential layout, but the commercial references are very limited. ...

French by Design

3 stars (Should you buy French By Design?) - I just did. The homes & rooms featured in this book indicate that money is no object and these homeowners want you to know it. Subtlety is non-existant. Rooms are very "we had a decorator & we spent a LOT". Most items looks too new, too ruffled, smocked, tucked and otherwise adorned. HOWEVER, if you can get past the pictures & READ THE TEXT- Phillips has a lot to say that is excellent. She lists sources & frequently shares fascinating comments on everyday details of French style (who knew about brass hardware vs brushed nickel?). If you read; buy it. If you look only at photos, don't! Charles Faudree is much better in the genre in my opinion. 5 stars (Beautifully presented.) - Another of Philips' beautiful French decorating books. Homes presented in this book, as with her other books are high end showing us the sumptuous fabrics, and lovely French furniture she specializes in. Homes shown are mostly mansions, not the average house. Good coffee table book. 5 stars (Brilliant, Great Sense of Design, a Visual Delight) - Not unlike all of Phillips' books, this book is a masterpiece of European syle and design. No detail is left unnoticed. The furniture, fabrics, antiques, architecture, artwork, and carved stone are each carefully considered and beautifully photographed. Every page is a visual delight. I cannot recommend it highly enough! ...

And I already have a design MA with my own firm. 2 stars (NOT SUCH GREAT BUY) - I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS TWO REVIEWERS, THIS BOOK IS GREAT ONLY IN THE WRITTEN INFORMATION, IN THE PICTORIALS IT IS INDEED SORELY LACKING. I HONESTLEY SAY THIS WITH FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE, BECAUSE I MYSELF AM CURRENTLY A DESIGN STUDENT, AND I HAD TO PURCHASE THIS BOOK FOR A MAJOR PART OF MY INTERIOR DESIGN EDUCATION. I RECOMMEND THAT THIS BE A BOOK THAT YOU CHECK OUT FROM THE LIBRARY FOR REFERENCE AND NOT ONE YOU PURCHASE. 2 stars (Underwhelming and overpriced) - The text of this volume is decent and well organized but in the area that most designers are interested in, visual examples, it is sorely lacking. A very minimal section of color photographs (which jump from Roman to the Renaissance. No sign of the Gothic)and a series of low contrast black and white ones are augmented with a series of uninspired drawings. All of this might still be helpful and useful were it not for the price. There are many volumes on furniture and decor that have come on the market recently which are superior in their content and priced more reasonably. ...

It's loaded with "How to's", from orthographic drawings, floor plan drawings , presentation boards to resumes! This book is a keeper. 3 stars (very well organized) - I am a third year interior design student and I bought this book to help me develop my portfolio. I found it to be very concise and organized. It provides a good overview for a lot of the things we have learned. This book is not so much a reference as it is a filler for industry shortcuts and tips that may have been over looked in class. 5 stars (Great Book!) - This book has a bit of everything I was looking for. techniques, lots of color renderings to review, shadowing techniques, etc. I am currently an interior design student and am using the book to help me with my color rendering and presentation techniques. In fact, my instructor reviewed the book and has requested the book be the textbook for the presentations class in our department next semester. This is the best book I've located so far. ...

Scalamandre- Luxurious Home Interiors

5 stars (Must have for designers!!!!!!) - Very informative and loaded with pictures of gorgeous fabrics from one of the top fabric design houses in the world. A must have for designers or anyone in the interior design business who deal with high end fabrics and trims on a regular basis. Would highly recommend this book!!!! 5 stars (Sensuous fabrics, trims, and more!) - This book has great historical information on the Scalamandre family and brand in addition to fabulous room photos. 5 stars (Scalamandre review) - This is one of the most beautiful books on Interior Design. It does not have a lot of type to clutter the beautiful photos. It will remain an historical account of an historic company that exposes beautiful fabrics to a discerning clientele.It should be in everyone's library...... ...

Bungalow Bathrooms Bungalow Basics

4 stars (Waterproof your book and take a bath!) - Considering the fact that the bathroom was still an area being perfected when bungalows were built, this book displays an insightful history into bathroom technology, both at the time and throughout history. As well, it gives reality-based examples for a bungalow-phile to follow in order to mould their bathroom after those of the era, allowing for the advancement modernity. A well-researched, well-done book. 5 stars (Bathroom Inspiration) - This book saved my life. I had no idea what to do with the bathroom of my new/old 1910 apartment until I read it. The text educated me (despite the numerous bad puns), the pictures inspired me, and the authors' upbeat attitude (not to mention their extensive list of resources) kept me from losing heart while looking for appropriate tile and fixtures. If you have a house built anywhere between 1899 and 1950 and you need to restore or renovate the bathroom, this is the book for you. It is not, however, a how-to book. It is a what-to book. And it's worth every penny. 5 stars (A Great Source of Design Ideas for a Bungalow Remodel) - I bought this book to get ideas on renovating my 1930 bungalow bathroom. Although the book focuses more on restoration than renovation, I still found it a wonderful source of ideas. Filled with lots of full color pictures of restored and well-preserved bathrooms, the book is worth its price for the pictures alone. The text covers both historic and current issues and is a wealth of information. Each section of the book has a chapter called "Obsessive Restoration" for those serious about historic integrity, but also offers a "Compromise Solution" for those of us who need to balance 21st century demands. We found the book extremely valuable in picking layout, hardware, fixtures, walls, and flooring. It really helped us to design a bathroom that meets the needs of a modern family, yet which blends in with the historic values of our home. ...
