4 stars (My first referance in my Q8 - EV) - This book is very useful for EV projects and contains a lot of theoretical and practical information. My EV was the first one in my country (Kuwait) because of this book and (Convert it). It is really dependable assuming that you have mechanical skills. Good Luck!!!! 2 stars (Want to build an electric car ? Not real easy.) - I think Bob Brant really wants to help you build an electric vehicle. I feel, however that his engineering background causes him to "talk down" to the reader, who thinks " It can't be really as complex as all this ! All these formulas , etc ! " How do we know the "flux level" for a motor we buy at a garage sale ? I am too old to get an engineering degree ! Lots of "shade tree" mechanics ( like me ) will have to look further for more practical information.Such as - a 10 HP motor in a Geo Metro will be fine for trips to the grocery store but no good for highway use. Also errors have crept in, and the schematic diagrams are incomplete and puzzling. Of course, the book was published nine years ago, and technology has advanced in the EV industry, as in everything else 4 stars (Add this to your library) - Usefull information about EV. This give you some wide idea about electric cars. It's a good book for your technical library specially if you'r going to build one EV and are a beginer. ...

New Complete Guide to Sewing

4 stars (Another edition, and the first is still the best...) - I have the FIRST edition, 1976, of this book...it is actually just as fact-filled as the new edition, and it hasn't the glitz of color through-out, though it has color plates. But, the information is great in both editions, and I urge the sewer to have this book around. I use it still for reference and refreshing the memory of things I do in sewing too seldom to remember! The new one seems devoid of the neat home projects the first edition had, and they are really retro now!!! 4 stars (Nice overview of sewing techniques) - I purchased this book when I had a general understanding of sewing and wanted to improve my skills without having to take sewing classes. I refer to this book when I have a slight understanding of what I'm doing and need to see the details about how it's done step by step. This book does just that - no skipped steps, illustrations for every step. There are few photos, but the drawings actually serve you better because you can see the seams more clearly. The book covers a very wide range of assembly techniques, which is quite helpful if you've got a blouse all done but are stuck on sewing the collar. I have bought a lot of sewing books and find that any that include "complete guide to..." in the title try to cover too many topics and lack the detailed content many of us are searching for. If you are really lost on how to do pattern alterations or working with knits etc., you will be much happier with a book that only deals with that topic and has the space to give you in-depth instructions. Overall, it is a very good book to have for reference when the pattern you are working with does not give you the extra help you need. 3 stars (Not for beginners) - The book is too advanced for beginners. The New Book of Image Transfer - How to Add Any Image to Almost Anything with Fabulous Results

5 stars (VERY cool projects!) - FINALLY! I found something that is not only fun to do, but I actually can do it well! This book gives you full details on using your photos (or other images) to decorate vases, frames, candles and all kinds of things in your home. I've made some nice gifts which can be really easy with the techniques shown in the book. Great ideas, great instruction! I like that she included clip art in the back of the book as well - I love projects like these but I'm not always the most imaginative person in the world. It's good to have ideas in front of me. 5 stars (This is a great book!) - This book tells you everything you need to know about making your own transfers. Be Expert with Map and Compass

1 stars (Too outdated) - Don't waste your time or money. This was an okay book in its day (though it has zero content about altimeters) but that day is long past. The new edition of the Land Navigation Handbook covers the basics equally well and also educates on altimeters, digital mapping, and GPS. 5 stars (Thoughts from a beginner) - I signed up to compete in an all day adventure race with orienteering being the main focus. I had never done orienteering before in my life and had no idea what was involved. Upon advice from other racers I purchased BEWMAC (as those in the "know" call it) and I read this book to my team-mate over the course of a 5 hour drive from Pittsburgh to Detroit. Literally this was my first exposure to orienteering. We were able to successfully navigate through an all day orienteering adventure race using this book. I thought it was easy to understand, came with a sample book and all of the skills were reinforced with simple quizzes at the end of each chapter. I have no doubt that there are more in debt studies, but from a beginners standpoint you can't go wrong. Just get it already. 2 stars (Vastly Overrated and Outdated) - This was the first book I ever bought on the subject of using a map and compass. It was recommended by everyone I knew, as there wasn't a whole lot else out there at the time, and it had been in print since 1955. About the best I can say for Kjellstrom's book is that it is better for beginners than the Sierra Club Handbook (also an old book), but that's about it. Illustrations are few and muddy, and the book has an ancient feel to it, with outdated references and quirky language (it's been in print for nearly 50 years, and the author died nearly 10 years ago when in his nineties). Fully half the book doesn't even deal with real-life wilderness navigation, but is instead devoted to the sport of orienteering (a fine sport, but with little relevance to practical backcountry navigation with its use of special large s...
