Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 5 10th Anniversary Edition

5 stars (Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 review) - This is a very simple program to use & has many nice features. I'm mainly using it to make picture videos & it does a good job at it. 4 stars (One of the better consumer Video Editing/DVD Authoring solutions) - I am suprised to see so many people trash this suite so quickly. I never use it for burning CDs/DVDs/Audio player (Nero, Winamp anyone?), but a combination of Roxio Capture, Videowave Professional and DVD Builder is really good for camcorder DV->DVD video editing and conversion. Features include support for still images, videos of differing resolutions/specs, video effects, overlays, text overlays, etc. you name it. Pinnacle Studio 9 is still a notch better in terms of features (the only feature that this suite doesn't seem to have - manipulation of audio volume of video tracks in the timeline), but its wickedly unstable and gets my Oscar for the most crash friendly program. Call it my uncanny luck, but Studio used to corrupt my projects just after I spend hours editing the video and done with it making me start all over again. I was looking for a stable alternative and this suite has saved my day. 1 stars (Extremely Unstable Program) - After spending 6 weeks capturing and editing a video, which the program did well, the burning process is extremely unstable. It will burn the video to a DVD-RW (rewrightable) disk but not to a non rewritable disk. I have tried 4 different manufacturers DVD disk and after 2 1/2 hours it takes to burn, I get error messages on every one and the disks will not play. I have wasted time and disks (they are unusable after the burning) to get no results. I have spent hours with Roxio's direct email support and with phone support and get "this is most unusual" but no solutions. I have deleted and reinstalled the program 3 times, as suggested by tech support, and still get the same results. I have sent for a back up disk as support also suggested that the original disk may be faulty....

Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus - Video Editing Software

5 stars (Excellent - as long as you have a reasonably recent PC) - I've been using Pinnacle for a couple years. This software is outstanding. Extremely powerful, yet reasonably intuitive to use. After learning a few basics, you're off and running to create powerful effects -- from corporate videos to very cool home videos. Good points: - Imports video nicely from dv camera - Breaks video up into scenes automatically for you - Easy drag, drop, cut, etc. to get just what you want into the timeline - Easy to modify the volume on the soundtrack and to add a music track and/or voiceover - Very powerful transitions -- the cool things you insert between segments of the video to make people say "wow, cool, how'd you do that"... you just drop them between scenes in your timeline and it does the rest - Preview without rendering time - If you want to dig deeper, you can -- title tools, transition effects can be highly customized, panning photos, etc. Drawbacks: - It's not a super high end product at this price -- there's only a couple audio tracks for instance. - I've had trouble with it on older hardware (more than a couple years). When you have hardware conflicts, it is terrible. It seems to randomly freeze and hang your machine, you lose your work, etc. It's awful. That probably accounts for most of the negative reviews. However, if your hardware will run it you will love this and be a great video editor in no time. 4 stars (Nice product. Off and running in a matter of minutes) - I purchsed Studio Version 9.3.9. Had no problems installing or running on my Dell Desktop or Laptop. Found program easy to use, importing video worked great (wish preview window defaulted to slightly larger size), Moving and trimming clips was easy, splitting clips was easy after viewing help file. Finale Guitar 2003

2 stars (Slow and difficult to learn) - I purchased Finale Guitar to finally get onto paper all of the hundreds of guitar arrangements I currently play from memory. It was a reasonably priced non-shareware guitar notation program so I thought it would be better. Well after using the program for several months, I am still having to go to the help files just to do the simplest of tasks. First of all I am a computer programmer, so I regularly learn and use all sorts of computer programs. I understand that everything has a learning curve, but this program is very frustrating in that it is not at all intuative. The main frustration comes from the fact that EVERYTHING that should be simple and out front or copy/pasteable is buried in a menu and dialog box somewhere. Also not all of the objects on the page can be simply "copied and cloned", then properties of the copied item changed, like a word processor. Even selection of things to be copied often requires some special dialog to copy it in a certain way. In other words if you are expecting to be able to put a chord on the page, then copy and paste it 20 times and simply change the attributes of all your copies to new chords, you are out of luck, you will basically have to do each from scratch. Also if you need to change the key without transposing the notes you are out of luck. Most operations cannot be done with copy/paste, you must go through all the gyrations of buried menus over and over, not much of just right clicking to get a properties window that does what you expected. It appears that they tried to simplify things by forcing you into a 'mode' for every separate operation rather than just picking one simple sequence that people understand and making all operations conform to that. I was not looking for a program to do midi playback/creation I wanted an easy and powerful notation program to get stuff on paper, so I am not reviewing the sound/midi aspects. Music Maker 2005 Deluxe

5 stars (music maker rocks) - i havent had music maker all that long but from what ive seen from it so far it really is quite impressive. As far as ease of use is concerned, most functions can be mastered in just a few minutes without having to resort to the index/help files. The large selection of synths and conversion options (mp3, ogg etc.) really make it worth the 30 dollars i paid for it. i thoroughly recommend it. 1 stars (buyer BEWARE!) - The one thing that has not been mentioned in any of these reviews is the license for this product. This software cannot be used for commercial use without permission from one of their "duly authorized representatives". I'm not sure, but I bet this is a costly proposition. So if you want this product for an amusing game, it's fine. If you want to use it for music that you plan to sell, even if you are including your own playing on it, avoid it. If you think that making loops of your own playing will let you off the hook, no, it won't. The license includes anything made with the software, so even if you want to sell your own music, PLAYED BY YOU, you have to talk to one of their representatives. If they give you permission to sell your OWN work, you still have to put their logo on it, which says, "Magix Creation". How nice...... 5 stars (The ultimate media creating software!!!) - Whether you are looking to create, mix or just edit this program has it all. I haven't seen anything out there that can beat music maker 2005. I have try to edit with other programs, but nothing has the options magix offers. Hands down ACID PRO will never touch magix. Audio, video, slideshows, you name it Magix has what you need. If you are familiar with the 2004 version, there's more with 2005. The vocoder and guitar are amazing. 1 stars (Horrible) - I was a big fan, starting with MGI PhotoSuite 3, then very happy with version 4. I got version 5, the first one released under Roxio, and it basically had only cosmetic differences from 4. I assumed version 7 would be a nice upgrade, and there was a $15 rebate off the $29.99 price, so I bought it. What a horrible mistake! PS 7 Platinum takes forever to install (~30 minutes!), as if the CD is defective or something. Then, the install says you have to reboot; my Win XP refused to boot again. I had to recovery back. I tried again; again it corrupted the registry. Roxio tech support is unresponsive. So it is basically unusable software. I guess this is one way Roxio can try and force PS users to upgrade to Easy Media Creator. My advice is DO NOT upgrade to 7 if you are an existing PS4 or 5 user. If you don't already have PS, and want a low-end, easy to use photo editing tool, get PS version 4 or 5 as copies of these versions are still available dirt cheap from software liquidator sites (just do a Google on PhotoSuite to find them). 1 stars (Don't buy this) - The software is not that great. I also had a mail in rebate for this software ($15) - The request was recieved on December 12 and I am yet to recieve the rebate. I have bought stuff much later and have got the mail in rebates for those submitted 2 months later. Do not buy any products from Roxio. They suck. 1 stars (Forget About Tech Support) - I believe the PS 5 isa better prodouct than the 7.This version is very cumberson. I got a deal on the Upgrade(?). Had some issues with it, then when I wrote to Tech Support I got back a form e-mail saying thatthey had wrked out all their issues , refered me to a automatic trouble shooter.Did not even cover my area.Now I can't reinstall the PS5. Nova Video Explosion Deluxe

5 stars (BEST VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE OUT THERE!) - This is probally the best video software for and prosumer out there. I have used pinnacle software and others but not match up to the solid performance of this product. At first when i opened it i thought it was a waste, but into 20 minutes of messing around with all its features i knew this was for me. It is bundled with 5 discs including Sonic My DVD witch it a simple dvd software with great performance. You can export your movie in literally any format. Even HD to quicktime. I have only had one problem and that was when i tried a demo to sony vegas 5.0, it was identicall to this software but more advanced. Im not sure what the relation is but I was still hooked on this program. The only word of advice i have is for people that already have this product, if you have advanced and have mastered this software, go ahead and save up for a copy of sony vegas. It lets u have unlimted video layers and twice as many video effects and transitions. So i guess im done saying how much I love this program. So dont fall for other product reviews this is the program for you. 5 stars (Amazing!) - I love this software. It's got everything you really need if you're a prosumer. You can start doing really complex techniques in about 10 mins. If you've ever used Acid for music, then it will be a breeze for you. Its nearly identical to Sony Screenblast Movie Studio v3 (both came from Sonic Foundry before Sony bought out their media division). Pinnacle Studio 9 Media Suite - Video Editing Software Suite

5 stars (Great Home Editing Software) - Media Suite is a great sowtware combo! It's includes four discs and two manuals Pinnacle Suite: You can do just about anything a home editor needs to do using this suite. (I would not recomend it porfessionally) The green screen effect is good but hard to perfect it so you cant tell there was a differant color there first. All the effects are great. You get large variety of them in this pack. Though there are still houndreds of dollars wirth of eother effect, songs, special effects, etc. That you have to buy seprantly. The controls are very compliated it took me about two weeks of playnig around with the program until i felt truly comfortable using it. Steinberg Wavelab: This program has a very small amount of features but what it does have is complicated. Your can record audio as long as you like and then add aprox. 3 effects choosing from a list of 20. It very easy to take out or add in parts of audio (edit) Corel Photobook: Have have only used this ounce but from what ican see see you can do simple edits on pictures. The tools are much like those of the microsoft programs. 1 stars (I'm dissappointed and frustrated) - I have a laptop and a 2nd graphics monitor at home, and bought this to calibrate both. I adjust the sliders on my IBM T40, and the Spyder software doesn't "see" that I've done it, although it's conspicuous on the LCD screen. The second monitor? It won't even recognize it. MP3 Maker 2005 Deluxe

1 stars (They know its bad. They'll just try to con you.) - I have an older version of MP3 Maker Gold. When I tried to resample something from 44100 to 22050, it cut the playback rate in half, i.e. it ran at half speed. I have other software that resamples it at the correct speed. I contacted technical support and they said cutting the playback rate was the correct thing to do. They continued to tell me that I shouldn't be using 22050, but should use 44100. They would never deal with the issue. This is like a contractor building a house, and part of the floor caves in. They then tell the inhabitants not to walk there and everything will be ok. Trashy product, trashy company. 1 stars (Very Buggy) - Ugh. Well, not to sound too negative, let me start with a few positives: 1. It's pretty fast at ripping CDs. 2. The audio effects during playback are kind of fun to play with. 3. As far as I know, the CD burning component works fine; I didn't test that out at all. 4. Um, the install went smoothly? But for me, they're vastly overshadowed by the negatives: 1. The quality of ripped mp3s is uneven--some tracks have enough defects to be completely unlistenable. 2. It doesn't offer many options for ripping CDs, compared to many freeware programs. 3. It simply refuses to rip some CDs (without even giving notification that it failed), which can be ripped with no problem by WMP, iTunes, or CDex. 4. It crashed when trying to rip some CDs, again which were no problem for other programs. 5. Its help program crashed immediately on startup. 6. It crashed when trying to import some songs into a playlist; you don't have to ask if other programs had any problems with the songs, do you? 7. The visualizer isn't resizeable; you get either tiny or fullscreen, and the fullscreen mode runs at about a frame every two seconds. 8. Pinnacle PCTV USB2 210100387 TV Tuner and Video Capture Device

3 stars (Does what it says, but...) - As a TV tuner it functions OK. It isn't anything spectacular, but when one considers the comparatively high resolutions that computer monitors produce (as opposed to traditional PAL/NTSC televisions) the quality is rather good. A previous reviewer claimed that the A/V inputs were not functional. That is absolutely false. I currently have my Xbox plugged into it and am playing it windowed on my PC. My complaints are that 1) There is a video lag with the inputs, 2) The provided software is sketchy at best, and 3) Pinncale demands extra money to 'unlock' different encoding methods, (i.e. Mpeg-2, Mpeg-4, VCD, etc.) In short, it does what it says, but that is about it. 1 stars (It's only a TV port, NOT a capture device - BEWARE!!) - If I could give it NO stars I would. IT'S A RIP-OFF!! Those reviewers who found this product OK are only using it as a TV device, not for external video capture. Sure, it works adequately as a TV device (so the one star is probably justified after all) but it is emphatically NOT a video capture port as supplied. Pinnacle's own bundled software does NOT support video input (neither for live display nor for capture) via the temptingly-annotated Composite or S-Video ports. It only 'sees' inputs on the UHF (TV) antenna input. Pinnacle have been promising to include this functionality for over 6 months but, so far, NADA!! Of course, the only way you can get to see the deluge of negative feedback this generates is to purchase the product to gain access to the support forums. The public aren't allowed in... Here's kicker #1 - if you're prepared to spend the same money again Pinnacle will sell you their Studio 9 application which (I THINK) supports these external (non-TV) video inputs. Now for kicker #2 - alternatively you can buy (again for a comparable ADDITIONAL cost) a third-party app called ShowShifter which has absolutely no problem seeing, displaying and capturing the extra inputs in this Pinnacle-...
