Life Application Study Bible- New International Version

5 stars (Incredible help for new Christians) - As a new Christian, I fumbled around with all kinds of different translations, formats, etc. At first, I ended up with a parallel bible. While I would recommend a parallel bible to experienced Christians, I would not recommend it to new Christians. After sitting in a bookstore for hours looking through all of the formats and translations, I decided that this one was definitely it. The NIV translation is accurate and easy to read while the study portion of this bible has been an incredible help to me. God Bless! 5 stars (For those who want to walk with Christ) - The Life Application Study Bible perfected a trend in the production of Bibles that began about thirty years ago. Prior to that most of the Bibles published were plain text or reference editions. These were limited in that they provided the uninformed reader with no explanatory guide through the difficult pages of Scripture. Two types of Bibles then began to emerge. First, study Bibles, which focused primarily of historical, literary and theological questions. Second, "devotional" Bibles, which catered primarily for personal spirituality (i.e. what does this mean for ME?). The Life Application combines both these approaches in a single attractive volume and is perfectly suited to anyone with no special expertise in biblical studies and especially helpful to those who want to read the Bible as a way of deepening their own spiritual life. The notes are not exclusively "spiritual" and "personal" but do provide answers to difficult critical biblical questions. The format is clear and easy to read. The Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible

5 stars (A great addition to the line-up) - My first impressions of the Renorare Spiritual Formation Bible are, what a great addition to the already crowded line-up of translations, study and style Bibles! I have not yet plumbed the depths of all that is available in helps to spiritual formation, but I can tell it is rich and will be an important Bible in my future. 5 stars (Don't miss this spiritual journey for the world!) - Personally, I am glad the Renovare editorial board asked those of us involved in the project to provide material that was inspirational, in-depth, thought-provoking, intricate and complex. I have never been of the opinion that Christianity ought to be reducible to a bumper sticker or a t-shirt slogan or that a Bible had to be compact and portable to be of any value. Other generations had no problem with Bibles that weighed a pound or two and had no issue with being afforded the opportunity to access copious amounts of inspirational material. They only asked that it be written with piety and integrity and that it not skate the surface. They expected to work their intellects and their spirits when they cracked open commentaries by Luther or Calvin or the Cappadocian Fathers or Matthew Henry. I believe the Renovare Study Bible lies happily within that tradition of the deeper life. It is jam-packed with essays and meditations and spiritual insights that will keep you thinking and wondering and praying and wrestling for months and years. The Maxwell Leadership Bible Developing Leaders From The Word Of God

5 stars (Very Good!!!) - This Bible is very good It really helped me out and even as a young person I was able to understand what John MAxwell was saying and I think that this is the right way to get anyone started on leadership or those who are interested in taking their skills to the next level! 5 stars ("Wow--far exceeded my expectations!") - I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this work exceeded all my expectations on what a Bible with such a title should look like! Maxwell is known as the peerless master of teaching leadership qualities. His secular works are required reading, and nothing comes close in excellence. How does he introduce such qualities into a Bible, though? Wonderfully! Maxwell takes every possible aspect of leaderhip (dozens and dozens) and ties them into Biblical characters and situations. There is enough teaching and study material here to occupy one's time for years, and none is fluff. This is more of a textbook than a Bible, but I guarantee--there is nothing else like it! Unlike so many other attempts which end up balancing a secular principle on a thread of Scripture, Maxwell really searches the Scripture, and the applications he gleans are relevant! If you ever hope to teach or learn virtually every leadership quality, tenet, or principle found in the Bible--your search is over. Maxwell has found them all! The Message- The Bible in Contemporary Language

5 stars (Clear and inspiring) - Peterson's rendering of the Bible is fresh and insightful. The verses' numbers being in the margin, enable me to look up specific verses and yet read passages as more complete thoughts. 5 stars (think) - Too many Christians forget what is was like to be new in the faith. Remember when the bible was total confusion until your priest or pastor shed some light on the subject being discussed? This book kept me focusing on spiritual issues instead of a mystery novel when I was a baby Christian (at age 40) and confused. What would you rather have you kid reading, "The Message" or more 'instant messaging'? I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Christianity. It is not meant to replace the bible. The New Inductive Study Bible- Updated New American Standard Bible

5 stars (Great Way to Study the Scriptures) - I am on Genesis 20 studying my way through this Inductive Bible. I am seeing new insights in every chapter. God is really using this Bible to grow me in the Lord. I wish I could join the Bible Study at Church that is based on this Bible, but for now I'm thankful for the resource. This Bible is for Serious Study. It is not a "light" study. 5 stars (Absolutely wondeful bible for all to use) - I have never been one to just sit and read the Word. I have purchased MANY bibles in the past and none of them seemed to fit. Are you like me? 4 stars (attention tightwads, there is cheaper) - no need to resort to ramen noodles and have msg kill your brain; get the ISBN 0827607660 hebrew-english bilingual POCKET edition. 20 list 14 postpaid, assuming you shell out 25 minimum per order additional benefit of the POCKET-sized cheap edition is that you can take it on a backpacking trip, and 'smuggle' it into nations that frown on their citizens/subjects having a copy of Scripture you could order two: one for the top of the fridge, and one that rides inside your daypack or carry-on luggage. that'll make US25 1 stars (Nicely printed Hebrew text in a rotten binding.) - Since others have described the contents of the JPS Hebrew-English Tanakh (ISBN: 0827606974) I will just say a few words about the incredibly poor binding of this book. Although the book is well-printed on excellent paper, it is being misleadingly touted as "leather bound." In fact, it is cased in PAPER-covered boards, comes with a cheap and nasty glued spine, and seems to have been designed to self-destruct after minimal use. For a more durable bilingual Tanakh, and one with a much more interesting English translation, readers might take a look at the Artscroll Stone Edition Tanach (ISBN: 0899062695) which is also available at Amazon and is the edition I now wish that I had bought. Too many publishers today are putting cheap glued paperbacks between cardboard covers, pretending that they are real books, and selling them at inflated prices. 3 stars (Helpful for the novice?) - Of all the english Bibles I will only give five stars to the KJV. It saddens me how many different versions abound in the english language, NRSV, NIV, NKJV, AB and more and all the feud around it. True many think they need the current english written language to undertake the reading of the Holy Word. I own several english versions and study Bibles. It has confused me to the point, that I now have started studying ancient Greek, to read the words of the Apostles and Paul as they spoke them. It does not mean I will not use those many versions to clarify and compare the meaning when I am in doubt. But I am sometimes afraid of become a Pharisee, a scolar of the Word, with an empty heart for our fellow brothers and sisters, one of the greatest sin. 5 stars (Outstanding) - The book was in excellent condition and I received it in plenty of time for my class. 5 stars (Like buying a fresh set of eyes) - Forget what you know about how easy the Bible is. Forget how simple it is to boil the Bible down into a practical lifestyle for today. Here is the Bible in all its historical complexity, in a rigorous and dependable English translation. This NRSV is, in many ways, quite accessible: It is well designed and cleanly arranged. The detailed notes and scholarly chapter introductions help break up big questions into manageable pieces. For Protestants like me, this is especially helpful when it comes to the Apocrypha. Also, at the sentence level this is an approachable and even warm translation. The "N" in "NRSV" means no "thees and thous" to trip over, as well as the elimination of gender biases not found in the original Greek and Hebrew. In other ways, this edition is very challenging. Gone are the "Apply This!" tips from your Evangelical pals. No one's explaining why Nehemiah is a good example of leadership, or the church today can take heed to Paul's letter to the Romans. The New Interpreter-s Study Bible- New Revised Standard Version With the Apocrypha

5 stars (Desert-island Bible for Moderates) - This is the one Bible I would take with me unhesitatingly to a deserted island. The notes are based off the larger 12-volume commentary set, and are concise and incredibly thorough. They are critical, honest, and sober. It is also more moderate than the New Oxford Annotated Bible (third edition) and the HarperCollins Study Bible. Both Bibles tend to shy away from affirming topics like Jesus' divinity, but the NISB readily acknowledges Christological and even Trinitarian passages in Scripture. Moderates will love this Bible. Those that are too "liberal" (I quote from others) may not like it because it does have some pretty specific views on certain topics. Those that are too "conservative" may not like it because it is still a critical Bible. But those who sit in the middle will love it, as I do. As a youth director, I love it because it does give some spiritual insights into Scripture that other critical Bibles do not. As an educator, I love it because I have an historically and theologically honest Bible that covers everything I want to say in class. Other Bibles are too rigid, I think, either in their so-called conservatism, or so-called liberalism (do we really need labels?). I must agree with Bruce Metzger, that this Bible is ideal for pastors, students, and academically minded laypersons. Therefore, were you to banish me to a desert island, this would be the one Bible I took with me. 5 stars (NISB NRSV w/ Apocrypha) - An excellent ecumenical Bible. It does not lean toward the conservative interpretation nor to the liberal. It is a scholarly annotation with appropriate translations for Hebrew and Greek words and phrases. Anyone could read the notes and gain a better understanding of the history and religious traditions prevalent at the time of the original writing. The Message Remix Bible in Contemporary Language

3 stars (Good and not so good) - I bought this bible for my teenage daughter who had requested it. We had heard great comments about it and were somewhat disappointed after receiving our copy. The way my daughter explained it, a lot has been lost in the translation. Some sentences are great because it really puts some things in perspective, but some sentences are awful because it's lost the lyric quality and familiarity of nearly every other bible translation/revision. Neither of us will be using it as our primary bible. 5 stars (Great Translation Of the Bible) - Great book in a new form that is understood by anyone instaed of all the complex words. It is the most clearest Bible ever. Pick one up and start reading. 5 stars (Spectacular Translation) - Very useful, down-to-earth explanations and translation of the Bible. A vivid one page summary precedes each book and casts extra light on the themes of the books of the Bible. Passages I've often been perplexed over as to how to apply them to my own life are revealed through the simple-to-understand language used to translate them. NIV-The Message Parallel Bible New International Version

4 stars (A Good Version to Have) - This parallel version of both Bibles is helpful. The NIV side has chapter and verse notation while The Message side does not. The Message version is very easy to read and understand. I like having them side by side because I can easily compare how one relates to the other. Reading The Message has helped me understand the meaning of some verses that have been tricky in the past. However, it can be bit easy to get confused with which side you are reading when you turn the page and then you have to back track to get in the correct spot. The pages are very thin and it can be visually distracting to see backwards letters through the page. 1 stars (Poor At Best) - This bible is plain and simply stupid. I can't believe that anybody would prefer a paraphrase of the bible over an actual translation ie: English Standard Version. Don't waste your money on this, instead get the Reformation Study Bible ESV. You will grow much more spiritually when you can read something that actually is not altered. For an example of why i think the message and message remix are so ridiculous read Psalm 63 in the ESV and then the message. 5 stars (Great Format) - Nice large letters, so much better than having several bibles open. Hands On Bible- New Living Translation

5 stars (Hands On gets a big Thumbs Up) - I have been working with kids and their families for over ten years, and I think this is the best Bible for kids I have ever come across. The NLT is an easy read that makes sense to kids and yet maintains the integrity of being a translation and not a paraphrase. The Bible has a fun look and feel for kids and plenty of age appropriate helps. What puts this Bible over the top though, is the Hands On suggestions that serve as object lessons for key scriptures. If you are a parent looking for creative ideas to teach your kid God's word then this Bible is for you. Check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed. 5 stars (A Great Resource!) - We use this Bible in our after school clubs. It really attracts children and entices them to read the Bible! I love the features it has: highlighting important verses (common memory verses); activities throughout; occational "Key Verse" hightlights that give deeper insight to a verse; "Fun Facts" interspersed in the text. I am also impressed with the appendices: LOTS of helpful information about the Bible for those who are new to reading it (like our club kids!); a personal Bible reading plan for kids; family devotions (I use some of these ideas in my teaching!); a dictionary/concordance; and maps! WOW! This Bible is packed! And NLT is a great translation for kids who are not familiar with "Christianese." I HIGHLY recommend this Bible! Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics - An Exegetical Syntax of the New Testament

5 stars (Great Book ) - This was my first grammar that I got, not knowing it was for second year students and beyond. I had learned something about Greek and the biblical text and all that because of my interest in apologetics and cults. This book helped me on some of the texts that cults like to use and abuse for their own purpose. Now being in seminary, and planning to study Greek in the future, it will be something I will need. It also directed me to William Mounce's work which was great. God Bless Dr. Wallace. 5 stars (A Great Grammar...Helps Your Understanding) - I have long enjoyed the writings of Dr. Wallace. His writings on the biblical textual issue in particular have caused my mind to be stirred and my spirit to be awakened to the living reality of the New Testament. His grammar is only slightly less exciting than that - and that's MY fault, not his. Wallace gives many examples that make his book relevant, contemporary, and accurate. Given how difficult it really is to understand some of the Greek volumes - just read A.T. Robertson - this one never fails to make its case easier to understand. Thank you, sir. 3 stars (Is it a grammar or an Evangelical apology ?) - Please do not misunderstand the provocative title of my comment: I am not saying that this book is worthless and that you should avoid buying it. On the contrary, I think that Wallace's grammar is an invaluable work worth every dollar you spend for it. First of all, unlike other grammars, this one is as thrilling as a detective novel. Of course, unless you are deeply interested in NT exegesis, you will probably find Wallace's huge treatise anything but gripping. But if like me you are an impassioned reader of the Gospel and its original text, you will surely love this book.And the good news is that it is not for advanced learners of koine Greek only. 4 stars (Max McLean's Performance) - I purchased this package 3 years ago and have noticed the price increase since. Without elaborating the NIV and ESV translation standards, both products deliver in their unique ways... NIV recording - More dramatization. ESV recording - Background music is extremely subtle and not intrusive at all. Even my sibling who prefer an all voice recording found it delightful and very acceptable. Both recordings do not have that FM (mono) radio quality broadcast sound noticeable in other audio bible products from various vendors. 1 stars (The DRM on this renders it pointless ) - Do not buy this if you expect the Microsoft Reader to "read" this book. The only reason I bought this was to be able to listen to this from my pocket PC on the road. The book is an Owner Exclusive which disabled the text-to-speech ability of reader. Maybe Amazon should include that little bit of info in the description. I understand the disabling of copying/pasting/printing but text-to-speech? The first thing I'm going to do after writing this review is uninstall Microsoft Reader and kiss my $10 goodbye. 3 stars (Holy Bible, NIV) - Do you happen to know that Proverds Chapter 31 the whole chapter is not inside this bible... 1 stars (Don't buy this for your PPC) - I purchased this solely for use on my Axim x50v. It doesn't work!! Once opened, you cannot use any of the touchscreen functions. The hard buttons work to go from page to page, but it's impossible to quickly move through the books and chapters. DON'T SPEND THE MONEY IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS FOR YOUR PPC. Purchase the Laridian product. ...
